Yes and the Tories can have no complaints because Farage’s lot were stood down in Tory seats last time and I didn’t hear them having a problem with it.
As I have said, I don’t particularly like it but whilst we have a system that encourages it, you have to play the game. As befair says, it suits the big parties unfortunately.
November 17, 2023 at 09:13 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670714Thanks Glad, makes perfect sense. Greens will tactically vote elsewhere but it’s basically never possible to tactically vote Green if you support another party so it’s one way traffic.
The lines have been redrawn where I am so it remains to be seen whether Labour or LD have the best chance, could well be LD as the westcountry is about as close to a heartland as they have.
‘A total of 111 days of racing on terrestrial television over the year (30%) is impressive’
Fully agree with this, people can complain about ITV all they like but what other sport is free to watch on almost third of all days in the year? That includes most if not all of the major races/festivals. We’ll miss it when it’s gone.
November 16, 2023 at 08:43 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670586Do you think FPTP costs smaller parties like the Greens votes Glad? I’m sure most Green voters for example would see Labour as the least bad option in a two horse race with the Tories and in a close run seat, a vote for a small party can be a vote for the Tories so you end up having to hold your nose and vote Labour.
I’ve never noticed this before but in 2019 the four Northern Ireland parties that won at least one seat plus Plaid in Wales had 22 seats between them. Their entire combined votes were around three thousand fewer than the Greens who as you know have one MP. You cannot defend a system like that.

So he accepts and respects it but also doesn’t accept or respect it. What a ridiculous statement.
November 15, 2023 at 18:04 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670539Braverman as LOTO is fine by me, they’ll remain in opposition forever with people like that in charge but yes it’s a frightening thought that she was anywhere near power.
Absolutely HDLG, I wonder if I’m allowed to choose which laws I obey based on whether I agree with them or not?
November 15, 2023 at 13:56 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670510One of the key policies of ‘the party of law and order’ ruled unlawful (inside or outside the ECHR). £140m blown up the wall. The response from many of them? Let’s just ignore the law and do it anyway. Vile, despicable people.
November 14, 2023 at 13:21 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670433I thought we were talking more about unelected PMs and putting your buddies in the Lords to get them in the (shadow) cabinet. There’s no coalition on the table currently.
The Conservatives are quite happy to go into coalition when it suits them, if they are the largest party then they are free to ask the others to help them out. They may receive a succinct two word response this time though. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.
Officially or otherwise I hope we see the opposition parties doing some joined up thinking when campaigning. I don’t particularly like it but the electoral system we have encourages it and again I didn’t hear the Tories complaining when Farage stood down his troops in their seats.
November 13, 2023 at 18:23 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670394Well I completely disagree with the entire existence of the HoL so doesn’t make any difference to me who is putting their mates in there, it’s all wrong.
I didn’t argee with what Labour did then and I don’t agree now the Tories are doing it so my position is entirely consistent.
Of course it works the other way too, if you’re ok with what the Tories are doing now, you can’t criticise Labour for previously having done similar.
Ian Davies on Grandstand with Des in the foreground surely?
November 13, 2023 at 13:59 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670363A PM that nobody voted for appoints somebody who nobody voted for as Foreign Secretary.
What was that about leaving the EU to free us from unelected bureaucrats?
This is truly desperate stuff. If they had a shred of decency left (I know…) they’d dissolve Parliament tomorrow and let us decide who we want in charge. They’ve effectively admitted that they don’t have enough competent MPs to run the country.

Braverman will ‘have more to say in due course’ which presumably means she’s going to throw a tantrum and tell us about how it’s everybody’s fault but her own.
Get the popcorn ready folks!
November 13, 2023 at 08:59 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670334She’s managed to lose the same job twice in little over a year. That’s quite something.
Who on Earth has he got lined up now I wonder.
November 12, 2023 at 22:56 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670324You come up with a small number of isolated incidents and think that proves Braverman right? And you tell us to ‘wake up and smell the coffee’… She’s been proven spectacularly wrong by the 99.99% who turned up, protested peacefully and went home.
Police say it was 300k, the organisers say 800k (actual number therefore likely to be somewhere between the two). The number arrested or causing trouble is a fraction of a percentage point (note that two of your examples are ‘a woman’ singular). Unlike the far right mob, whipped up by Braverman and others who were vastly fewer in number yet made up the vast majority of arrests.
I hope that these small number of people displaying anti-Semitic messages are found if they haven’t been already just as I hope any of the far right thugs are also identified and prosecuted where they have committed crimes.
November 12, 2023 at 17:55 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670276Damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t.
Looks weak if he doesn’t, stokes more Tory division if he does.
Although I’d argue he even looks weak to an extent if he does now, the time to do it was last week (well really he should never have reinstated her in the first place but we are where we are).
I’m inclined to think he’ll bottle it.
Patel might have a shot if he does, she actually looks compassionate and moderate compared to Braverman. I almost admire their ability to keep finding people even worse than their absolutely dreadful predecessors.
November 12, 2023 at 17:11 in reply to: Ready for Rishi? 2022-???? (There’s no telling with this lot) #1670265I don’t doubt that for a second. It’s the same Tory faithful that inflicted Truss on us. Anyone would think they have no idea what they are talking about. Indeed it’s the same Tory faithful where you can vote if you’re 16 or from overseas and ineligible to vote in General Elections.
