amazing the amount of vitriol been posted about this incident. Ok, although it has not been admitted (which would be my biggest issue) it seems fairly clear russell lost his temper and did something inappropriate. Nobody or animal was hurt….he’s got a 4 day ban now so hopefully this can be forgotten about. how many of you have had a dog who did something naughty and you gave it a clip? There’s people calling for lifetime bans and the media are just all over this bandwagon and going completely over the top. Cases of domestic abuse and cheating in sport go unheralded compared to this incident. ridiculous IMO.

Judge, You’re exactly right,I did go cold turkey on a betting front (for about 18-24 months) but I still watched every single race I could although I wasn’t betting….I guess because I just love the sport and couldn’t fully walk away….…I also love golf, Gaelic football and rugby but for some reason I have never wanted to have a bet on them………I used GA as a medium to get a grasp (through other people experiences as well as talking through my own) on why I was losing control at horse racing and it was having a negative impact on my life….returned to having a bet about 2 years ago and so far so good

Also, not sure why I’ve never come across it before but I absolutely love the interview with Richard Pitman and Crisp  only seen it last month!

Good point Joe and the only thing that kind of challenges it is different owners……definitely applies to scenarios like Wicklow Brave and Arctic Fire though

Judge, everybody who ever gambles regularly has had a terrible run at gambling……its a horrible horrible place to be and when it happened to me I took myself off to GA which enabled me to take an 18 month sabbatical from the game (something I couldn’t do previously)….it gave me some perspective and understanding of what makes me do the wrong things. Now I can bet just for the fun and enjoyment without it impacting hugely (either positively or negatively) on my life. Also, to echo other posters here the only sport I bet on is Horse racing……absolutely nothing else.

I just think its impossible for any person to now a horses mind / form / appetite for a race and sometimes this is borne out in the extreme like it was this week……jesus, we can’t even do this with humans in sport and we can talk to them  as an aside for those who didn’t have the enjoyment of been able to watch RTE’s interview’s on Saturday when Ruby did finally ride a Grade 1 winner I loved his answer when asked the usual “how what that?”…..reply…”i”m just glad I was of some use to Willie this week”

This potential rivalry is the first since that could remind me of Kauto/Denman or Moscow/Azertioup…..for what its worth I think Douvan would just gallop Altior into the ground……The basic form of getting 5lbs from a horse returning from injury is a complete world away from taking on that monster…….IMO Nicky would be crazy to take him on this year……….still i really want to see it cause he appears to be the only one who could show us how good Douvan really is.

it was some bit of horsemanship to stay on board today and nearly get back up but ruby bothers me when he does this :negative: he did it on Kauto star as a novice when he had no business getting back on the horse and riding out a finish….the horse got injured…..he did it on Killultagh Vic last year and the horse was subsequently injured. theres no way he can know if the horse has injured themselves after a bad mistake and he shouldn’t be riding them out in a finish under any circumstances IMO

Thanks BigG, can see the argument there…..was caught up in Mr. Kidd’s indignancy for awhile  but I do firmly believe that Rashaan is a mid 140’s horse at best. I would highly doubt we will ever see him winning a race in England. I will find it interesting to see where he goes next! Blue’s, you’re no doubt partly right, there’s a reason Phil Smith is the handicapper and not me but I do not think we will ever see Rashaan be competitive handicap off 154

Yea, i can appreciate that…. I think you’re right that Kempton won’t be the last but for selfish reasons I hope they fail to sell…….I spend about 3 months looking forward to the King George each year :rose: think it would lose some of its gloss at Sandown.

why joe? Kempton has had a direct hand in creating two of the biggest ever legends of jumps racing in Dessie and Kauto…..it is a very fair track that is all about speed and offers a very different test compared to more traditional national hunt tracks. A lot of trainers love bringing their good novices there….always good ground….it seems completely logical to me that a plethora of horse-people want to defend its existence. How much will an all weather track at Newmarket cost? The idea of the sale revenues going back into prize money is questionable i would say……not that any of this matters because by vibes from the council planning will never get the go-ahead.

Think I agree….the more I look at it the saddle does not appear to have moved and it certainly appears that he has simply jumped ship. I’m very very surprised the stewards did not look at this. Surely an explanation should be provided in the interest of clarity and transparency? Fair enough if there is a valid reason but we should have it if there is. I heard from one source that he may have got injured in the poor jump beforehand however considering he was riding at Leicester yesterday this would put pay to that notion.

Thought it was a fantastic performance today from Djakadam on his first run of the season…….you’d think Mullins will really only have him fully tuned for Paddy’s day next year B-) ……considering he will turn 8 in just over 2 weeks I really think this will be the year to be on him…….at 8/1 he seems like a great ew bet to nothing at the minute……can’t see him goin :mail:

Have a reasonable bet on Idaho at 5/4….slightly concerned about the prospect of soft ground over pretty much a new distance for the whole field….can have a tendency to throw up funny results. His form is so far clear of everything else in the field though I’m still confident….Seamie just has to ride the same as at York, just hold on for 2furlongs longer please :good:

not much rain over here yet although there is some heavy rain promised tomorrow but again saturday is dry….if it stays good / good-firm I can see Alice Springs running a big race and at 5’s she looks a little too big……however if soft gets into the going description I wouldn’t be too confident….still i’ll take the chance on 5’s right now considering she’ll go off around 3’s if its good on the day. :good:
