    RIP Old Boy!

Having been involved with the Martins Hill Racing Partnership that has owned TC for the past few years I was desperately sad to see his demise.

He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed around the yard by the whole team.

I must agree with the previous two posters. It appears to have been a tragic accident and some of the drivel spouted (prior to any facts being known – mainly by Joncol) puts the forum at risk of new internet advertising regulations.
I think calling this "Intelligent Discussion" when most of the posts have contained anything but is pushing the boundaries.
I appreciate it is a very emotional subject but posters should concentrate purely on the facts and not be making unfounded accusations. I feel sorry for Cormack but hey I suppose every forum has a few Joncols!

A good chance today to see Tom Davids talent put to the test when he rides two for his boss Tim Vaughan at Wetherby today.

The first is TOO TALL who is a recruit from the flat who has been beaten less than five lengths nine times in his career. On several of those occasions he has looked the likely winner and may be the type that needs his head putting in front on the line!

The second is DABARATSA who certainly has the talent to win today but doesn’t seem the most willing to put her best foot forward. Currently available at a best price 9-1 I would think backing her in running should be more rewarding as Tom will either be stoking her along some way out as she is likely to be outpaced if dropped in or he may attempt the tactic used by Richard Johnson last time of making all. If the latter tactic is used I wouldn’t be backing her as I think with Tipsy Indian contesting the lead she may quickly give in.

I will be looking out for Miss Jenny Carr.

Tom added another winner today with an astute ride on Liz’s Dream.

He really is one to watch and you heard it here first!

Anybody in the Moreton in Marsh area on Monday evening can pop in and pass on their best wishes to Sam. He has just confirmed he will still be attending the preview evening at The White Hart Royal. To book tickets (£5 each – proceeds to The IJF) please call 01608 650731

I very much agree with Tartak looking good value but my choice though would be

    DOCTOR DAVID

    .

Trip and ground look perfect and on his only visit to Doncaster he put in arguably his best performance when getting to within 2 3/4 lengths of imsingingtheeblues. On that day he was receiving 3lbs from ISTB’s but will be receiving a stone this time round.

The yard think they have him in great shape and he has been schooling very well. I would expect to see him settle much better for Andrew Thornton than in his last few outings and be pushed into the lead some way out.

At current odds of 14/1 he looks an EW banker.

In response to CheltenhamSpecialist one of my main reasons for doubting Tidal Bay (even forgetting his quirks) is the fact the ground at Cheltenham tomorrow will be much slower than his preferred good ground.

This is a widely known fact and the following is a quote from Howard-Johnson in December "Tidal Bay wants goodish ground – nice jumping ground – and wouldn’t want it soft, so with the rain they’ve had over the past few days, we might have to wait".

I am fully aware that Tidal Bay is a classy horse on his day BUT his day is not over 3miles on soft ground!! If it were 2miles 5f on good ground at Aintree it would be a different story.

I don’t believe in following particular horses blind but instead selecting horses that have as much in their favour as possible.

For me this looks a good chance for Tatanen to fufil some of his undoubted talent. Although looking every bit the chaser he might be another Big Bucks (although not as good!) and find more luck over smaller obstacles. His fencing has let him down several times and I think this race has the perfect make up for a patient Ruby ride while Mr Thriller, Lough Derg and Fair Point set what is sure to be a testing pace.

Although he has disappointed given the hype surrounding him he has still shown enough in his last couple of runs to make me think he is still highly capable.

His run behind Seven is my Number can be forgiven as Ruby appeared to try and test SIMN’s stamina and it obviously didn’t work. He was then in the process of running a fair race under a big weight in a competitive handicap before making a mistake which halted his progress (slow though it was!).

I think the 16/1 currently on offer is very good value and I would certainly take that ahead of the 11’s on Tidal Bay.

Carlito Brigante looks the stand out bet at an over generous 14/1 with Skybet and Corals. The form of his Leopardstown win looks solid and as long as the ground isn’t too soft he must be thereabouts. He is proven left handed and appears as though he will enjoy the stiff finish. He travels very strongly in his races and should be able to lay up with what is sure to be a frenetic pace.

As previously mentioned on the site Palypso De Creek from the Charlie Longsdon stable looks like a very good ew bet for the National. Having already proven his liking for the fences in the Becher Chase and shaping like he will get the trip. He appears to handle any ground and would be a welcome runner for the stable following the sad passing of Longsdon’s Kerstino Two who looked a likely type a couple of years ago.

The 50/1 on offer from Bet 365 looks very fair and I fully expect a big run for my money.

A horse that must surely come into the reckoning particularly given a line on his form through Go Native has got to be MEDERMIT.

He has shown in two runs so far this year that he has improved over the summer (particularly impressive given the form the King horses were in). I expect him to be ridden closer to the pace in future and expect him to beat Punjabi in The Welsh Champion on Saturday before shortening for the Main feature at HQ in March.

He has shown he handles the Cheltenham hill and the likely good or g/s ground will hold no worries.

The best price on offer is 33/1 available from VC, BET 365, Blue Square, Paddy Power, Stan James, Coral and William Hill.

OK so we had to wait a bit longer longer for the price to shorten but I am happy sat with 33’s knowing that Cheltenham will bring out the best in him

    Another one bites the dust!!

Thats Some Slam’s chances over given a very disappointing performance. Beaten by over 20 lengths by one of Mullins lesser lights.

I think Hurdling beckons now for Some Slam.

What about Robbie from the Reveley stable who ran well in finishing second while running very green he has apparently improved hugely for his debut(as you would expect!)?

Dr Whizz is another gone from the Bumper list having just won his maiden hurdle the only consolation being that I backed him at the very generous odds of 7-1!!!

He looks like a smart recruit and seemed to have a bit in hand and will certainly be better over further.

With regards the bumper picture you are right at this stage there aren’t any real stand outs. We could even see an English winner in 2010!

Big Bucks is at this stage the Nap of the meeting but how about old foe Fair Along to grab a place?

His performance at the beginning of the year in the Cleeve Hurdle when he was ridden very agressively and pushed Big Bucks and Punchestowns all the way shows he is capable at the top level and he has shown his well being when handing out a drubbing to some fair sorts in the John Smiths Hurdle at Wetherby. It was also to be noted that the yard were not overly confident (drifted from 9/4 to 3/1) as they still had a fair bit left to work on making it as even more impressive performance.

If racing goes ahead at Ascot tomorrow he may find it a struggle in the Long Walk as the evergreen Lough Derg will take him on at the front. He will not have Lough Derg to contend with in the World Hurdle and I think that will make a BIG difference.

The best price currently on offer is 25/1 with Paddy Power, I though would hold on until after the Long Walk and expect to able to grab some 33/1 on Sunday!

Given the confusing current picture and that their isn’t really a stand out. I have been looking further down the AP list for some value and the standouts look to be –

Bahrain Storm 50/1 Bet 365, Paddy Power

Not sure when he is due out but seems to have a similar profile to 95 winner Alderbrook?

    Quevega 66/1 Sporting Bet

The odds available on Quevega look particularly generous given his proven stamina and course form. I realise she has suffered a setback but Willie Mullins seems confident she will make it and may even have a prep run the end of Jan/early Feb. I realise she is fairly short for a repeat of the mares hurdle but my understanding is he would like to run her in the CH?

What do you think? Worth a few quid at 66’s?

    Fist

Couldn’t agree more and having taken 50/1 EW(on the AP List)a few weeks back I will grab a bit more of the 33/1 this morning with VC or Coral as I fully expect him to hack up today (and more importantly so do the stable!!)
    Get On!

    Ascot now abondoned 7.10am!
