I have followed now for a couple of years the career of young Tom David. He is a very talented horseman with extremely good hands and seems to be a very shrewd tactician.

He puts every horse in there with the best chance of winning and seems at ease riding any style of race.

He is in fantastic form lately with 3 winners from his last 4 and has been in the first three in 8 of his last 11 rides.

A very good example of his prowess was his winning ride on Liz’s Dream at Perth. He was calmness personified during the mid part of the race, happy to sit in behind horses without starting to panic before making his move on the home turn and then allowing his horse to drift across after the last to use the rail as an aid.

He is attached to Tim Vaughan’s yard and is very highly thought of.

Lets hope that once he has ridden out his claim he gets the chances his talents deserve.

Like to see him come up against Miss Jenny Carr.

This season 1 ride 1 winner.

I am told this girl is some jockey and will be getting a lot more rides from Jonjo O’Neill.

I will be looking out for Miss Jenny Carr.

Tom added another winner today with an astute ride on Liz’s Dream.

He really is one to watch and you heard it here first!

here first – his efforts in Welsh points have caught the eye on Jumping For Fun for around three years now, likewise a win on Tanmeya at Worcester last summer.

But yes, his conversion to conditional status this week seems a statement of intent, doesn’t it, and he’d not be a bad shout for conditional champion this term with support from most of the Welsh trainers entirely likely.

Jenny Carr hasn’t got the rides I thought she would when landing the lady riders’ hunter chase on Horse and Hound Night two years ago (with a really cool ride on Fleur De Nikos for Alan Walter, if memory serves), but there’s time enough yet. She’s pretty decent.

Coolest amateur on the scene at the moment has to be Jonathan Bailey … watched him on Coolefind at Southwell last week … didn’t press the panic button when Billyvoddan swept past on the home turn and coolly picked him off again coming to the last … definitely a future star

His rides on Tanmeya last summer were very good though i think the horse might have been a mile clear of the handicapper Jeremy as many of these HC’s are (Elliott racked up a double with Nedzer’s Return up at Perth, Bright Approach ran well in handicaps too).

Jenny Carr is a good jockey – she seems to ride at every point I attend, so aside from knowing she’s pretty strong in a finish from what I’ve seen also know she works for JJ O’Neill too (well she has one of his jackets lol).

Still both behind Isabel for best Amateur and would put Tom David behind Matt Griffiths as the top male amateur too.

For all her doubtless qualities Jenny Carr does not, alas, know how to get to the weighing room at Hackwood Park – they had to disqualify her from third in the Ladies Open there yesterday following an objection from the clerk of the scales.

An expensive mistake to make for an amateur at £60 a pop. Let’s see if she can recoup that, and a bit more besides, at HQ tomorrow evening.

A good chance today to see Tom Davids talent put to the test when he rides two for his boss Tim Vaughan at Wetherby today.

The first is TOO TALL who is a recruit from the flat who has been beaten less than five lengths nine times in his career. On several of those occasions he has looked the likely winner and may be the type that needs his head putting in front on the line!

The second is DABARATSA who certainly has the talent to win today but doesn’t seem the most willing to put her best foot forward. Currently available at a best price 9-1 I would think backing her in running should be more rewarding as Tom will either be stoking her along some way out as she is likely to be outpaced if dropped in or he may attempt the tactic used by Richard Johnson last time of making all. If the latter tactic is used I wouldn’t be backing her as I think with Tipsy Indian contesting the lead she may quickly give in.

Not sure she knows how many take you over the limit either! Looking forward to her next NH ride.

A little birdy from Chudleigh told me she was good but I didn’t think this good.

Jenny Carr, pursued by Gina Andrews and Isabel Tompsett – three of the very best women riders out there at present to the fore. Could be more of the same, from Jenny at least, in the final race at Fakenham this Sunday.

Up against McCoy tomorrow at Aintree she’s on the Flying Doctor.

That’s one hell of a confidence vote from the owner and trainer.
