The way I see it, those Americans that "aren’t ready for a black President" were never likely to vote Democrat anyway- I don’t think it will make much difference Obama being black. I did however love the totally superficial publicity stunt pulled by McCain in bringing in a young (in political terms), female running-mate.

Desperate isn’t it? It’s so obvious that he’s chasing the votes from the housewifes who supported Clinton and don’t want to move onto Obama. Daft too because McCain’s main criticism of Obama was his lack of experience; now if he uses that he will look like a hypocrite

whether ‘America’ will allow it to happen.

Surely you don’t believe in those conspiracy theories that America is controlled by a secret cabal (in this case, a secret cabal of racists) who really pull the strings behind George Bush or whatever.

Let’s face it: if Morgan Freeman ran for president he would be elected.

Being Black doesn’t seem to have had a detrimental effect on the careers of numerous mainstream entertainers. And the election process is just another branch of the entertainment industry. Rap music, Will Smith, Opera Winfrey, Black president: it’s all the same.

Whenever I watch Sky News and the American reporters are saying things like ‘can America really elect a Black president?’ incredulously, it sounds like a self-fulfilling prophecy to me… it’s like they’re trying to make this (predictable) election resemble the script for a bad movie about an underdog who succeeds ‘against the odds’, and this (‘can America really elect a Black president?’) is the exposition; and the climax is when they act all suprised when he wins, and write self-congratulating pieces about how great and liberal America is now.

It is boring, it’s American. It would be funny if they elected a black president, I know a few Yanks who would be raging.

If Obama doesn’t win it will be because he’s black.

So everyone who votes for McCain is implicitly racist (for not voting for Obama instead)?

I hate that monodynamic thinking. You’re as backwards as any of those Southern-state, Bush-loving ‘Yanks’ that Michael Moore like to bang-on about.

Overall I like ATR and Racing UK’s presenters equally, for different reasons, but what is inarguable is that ATR put more effort into their programming beyond the racing itself, with the Racing News / Get On!, Sunday Forum and various stable features. It’s a shame that Racing UK don’t have an equivalent of Racing News on a Saturday.

I live 15-miles from York and it’s currently drizzling.

I can’t see Duke Or Marmalade or New Approach running on Tuesday to be honest.

I don’t believe he was stictched up at all. I think he did kill Jill Dando.

Haha fair enough, I missed that.

    Good stuff Seven Towers

I think some the accusations on this thread are bang out of order

Reminds me of the disgusting finger pointing by the McCanns and subsequently the public at Robert Murat, when there wasnt a shred of evidence to back it up

    "Circumstantial evidence" is nothing

Not quite… Nobody is saying he’s a murderer (Murat had NO convictions for anything), just pointing-out that he’s a bit of a nutter and should be in a mental-institution rather than being celebrated as some symbol for justice.

Would you like to be flatmates with him? or even live next-door to him? I doubt it.

    Oh good…

I was worried that we would be deprived of his Nelson Mandela-impression in further weepies, whereby he s-l-o-w-l-y mutters a dumb truism (‘a long journey… must… start… with a single step’), and then slowly contorts his face into a ‘wise grin’ as if he’s just checkmated Kasparov or something.

A good actor needs to do more than this in every film.

NWRA could you point me in the direction of the evidence of Barry George raping on someone on their doorstep having posed as a police officer? I can find reports that he served 23 months for attempted rape, but nothing else.
I’m not sure that anyone is celebrating George’s release, but what would you rather have? A man innocent of Jill Dando’s murder rotting in prison while his real killer is free?
Personally I think George should be compensated for his years in prison then people who he has stalked/attacked should be free to pursue him for compensation for the crimes he has committed against them. Starting with his ex-wife, the woman he was done for trying to rape and the 13 or so women who came forward to say he was stalking them when he was arrested. He won’t have a lot left after that and perhaps the continuous court cases will keep him occupied.
I agree with you NWRA that if George’s mental health is so poor he should be looked into as a candidate for residential mental healthcare.
If anyone does harbour ill feeling towards George you could do worse than search youtube for the occasion when he posed as stuntman “Steve Majors” and claimed he could jump multiple double deckers on a motorbike, enough people fell for his claims for the whole thing for it to be arranged and for a large crowd to assemble. Seemingly too afraid or deluded to back out George attempted the stunt, failed and mangled himself in the process.

I read it in The Sun yesterday when I was drunk on the train home (I can guess your reply already, re: The Sun!). It’s one of the headlines on their website too: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/

George is already becoming something of a star:

The above pictures are real! They’re like an ironic modern-artist’s statement about our fame-obsessed society… but Sky News is beyond parody.

He’ll be on Celebrity Big Brother soon. And then he will get his own reality-TV show where he tours the country in a custom-made Ford Rape Mobile (bought with his compensation/media money), dressed in a bondage-suit-and-SAS-mask-combo designed by Valentino Garavani. And our daughters will wear T-shirts of his grizzled moon-face.

Let’s hope he moves-in next door to Kay Burley too.

I find it very odd the way that George’s release is being celebrated. As has often been repeated (in his defence, weirdly): he’s got an IQ of 70-something; he’s a fantasist who pretended to be Freddy Mercury’s brother, amid other fantasies of being a minor-celebrity; he’s a multiple sex-offender, and raped someone on the their doorstep after pretending to be a police officer (which proves that, despite his limited intelligence, he is capable of cunning); liked to pose with guns while wearing an SAS mask (interesting that he was in the territorial army, so he must know a bit about guns and concealment, disguise).

So yeah he’s seemingly not guilty of murder… he’s just a rapist with severe mental-problems.

Shouldn’t he be in a mental hospital? or still in prison for rape?

I’m glad he’s been retired at the right time, and wish him a happy retirement. I’ve got one of the photos of him (from his fan site, which is very good) on my desktop, a lovely-looking horse.

I’m already bored by the (predictable) dismissive responses to the program on here and Betfair, and from Greg Wood: from people who think that they, as fans of horse-racing, have to be diametrically opposed to anything that tries to portray horse-racing in a negative light (and therefore undermines their interest in the sport). And they always say the same lazy things: it was ‘boring’, ‘nothing new’ or ‘sensationalist’.

It wasn’t boring: we may have read about the case before but never heard the phone recordings; and there was a wealth of new material (personally I’ve never heard of Bennet before). It wasn’t sensationalist: it stuck to the facts, was clear and professional.

It’s staggering that the case couldn’t go any further; yes, you can’t prove that a horse has been stopped but when a horse wins and its jockey phones-up someone who has layed it and says ‘Damn! Sorry’, and then when a horse loses and the same jockey phones-up the same person and says ‘Yes! We did it!’… it’s pretty damning. It’s not a naive jockey giving his honest opinion about a horse’s chances is it?.

    Mothercare vouchers?

It seems ludicrous that some of the jockeys who featured on it are riding today. The only positives to come out of it were that the evidence exists in the first place, and that the corruption does seem confined to a few thugs trying a scam.

First time up against colts and older horse but the drop in trip and class may suit Infallible.

She took on older horses (mares) in her last race; it’s her first time against the colts though.

To me, this looks a poor race and Infallible should win it: she is the only one with the ability to compete in Group 1-company.

I’m slightly concerned by her habit of coming second after travelling very strongly, and having excuses made for her (too far, too firm)… but I’m backing her as I think 13/8 is a fair price.

Do the 3YOs need a short let-up before the Ebor meeting leading into the Irish Champion, Arc trials, the Arc, Breeders Cup and then Asia, with the road ceasing at Nad Al Sheba?

I don’t think the race is losing its perceived ‘lustre’ as much as it’s just awkwardly-situated in the season. The only 3YOs who could run in it, ran in the Irish Derby and Grand Prix de Paris; I suppose they can’t run in both, and their trainers are preferring to stick to their own age-group in those races, and then go for the Arc, etc, later.

Also the importance of the Arc has increased the importance of the Grand Prix de Paris as a trial so that’s another factor in its favour.

I think the age-allowance for 3YOs in The King George is generous though.
