"about 200m" is shamefully vague, but I’ll let it pass…
That’s the journey there sorted then, many thanks. The 60000-euro question, of course, is whether it works afterwards too?
Ah, the legendary tram to Longchamp. I think I might take the plunge this year. Are you sure that it still exists, assuming of course that it ever existed in the first place?
John Whitley. of Racing Research, produces jockey ratings in his Flat and Jumps annuals each year which have an excellent record for pinpointing talent – or lack of it – early in a jockey’s career. He assesses how horses have performed for different riders, and expresses the result in pounds, or rather, tenths of a pound. There is usually about 5 or 6lb between the very best and the very worst.
Fallon was at the top of the list, or very close to it, from the moment he arrived in Britain.
Hundreds of breeders have already spent fortunes sending their mares to One Cool Cat, and he had a heart problem, for heaven’s sake.
George Washington’s dodgy attitude will soon be transformed into a rampaging will to win once the Coolmore marketing department gets to work.
Having checked, I had it down as Harby, though oddly, it does seem to be Harvie after all.
Given that I asked him how to spell his name, wrote it down, shoved it in front of his nose and said "is that right?", that would suggest that one of us (or possibly both) was p**s
ed or temporarily insane.Wit, I’m pretty sure the bloke standing in for Pannick was Harbie, with a "b".
No, he got seven, reduced to one on appeal.

I don’t understand how a flat-rate fee can lead to "collusion", unless the Post’s servers are incapable of stopping two people logging on under the same ID at the same time. Poker sites seem to have no problem doing this, so I can’t imagine it’s all that difficult.
This is a spectacularly stupid decision by someone at Trinity Mirror, borne entirely of short-sighted greed. A great innovation is about to be kebabbed by a moronic, unworkable pricing structure. There really are some incredibly thick people in senior positions there, and I’m fairly sure I can guess who is responsible for this particular idea.
Every lesson about the internet, and doing business on the internet, has been ignored. People are not going to pay per race, simple as that. A (small) flat fee for unlimited access to the database is the only feasible way to charge for this in the long term, and it beggars belief that there are people in positions of influence at TM who think otherwise.
There will be an HRA hearing tomorrow to determine whether Berry can make entries before the trial, and another on Friday at which Williams, Lynch and Fallon will apply to get a licence – or approval to ride in Britain, in Fallon’s case – in the run-up to the trial.
Since it could be a year or more before the whole process is concluded, I’d suspect that they will all be cleared to ride. Whether Lynch and Williams will then suffer from the "Carter effect" and fail to get much employment is another matter.
FSL, in the end I suspect it actually made PP quite a lot of money. By the time I got around to rooting out the 11-10 on 125 lengths +, it had been backed down to 1-3, so thankfully I left it alone. At the same time, though, up to 30 lengths had been pushed out to 150-1 from 50-1, so you’d have to think that the eventual result was a skinner.
LRM, my deepest condolences. Craig built a community of thousands from nothing, bringing people together from across the world thanks to a shared love of racing. It was a remarkable achievement, and stands as a testament to an exceptional person. To be taken at such an age is shocking.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Paddy Power have a market on how far behind the winner he will be.
50-1 up to and including 30 lengths.
16-1 30 1/4 up to 50
8-1 50 1/4 up to 75
3-1 75 1/4 up to 100
7-4 100 1/4 up to 125
11-10 more than 125 lengths
NW must finish, Racing Post distance applies (ie done on time between NW and horse in front if more than 30 lengths, think they use 5 lengths a second).
Reckon this could be one of those markets that sound like a good idea when they do it, but could get them into trouble. Would certainly be interesting to know what the jockeys’ instructions will be in the almost certain event that he’s tailing off after two or three furlongs. If it’s to ease down and come home just before the judge stands up, 11-10 on 125 or more would look a tad on the large side.
My fellow fans of crazy quilt will be pleased to see them being carried by Millenaire in the four-miler at Cheltham this afternoon.
Ah, right. Now I’m with you. Thanks.
I’ll watch my step.
Googling "Diane’s racing forum" gets me lots of information about fast cars in America. Is there something more precise I should be putting into the net’s leading search engine?
