re Ballycassidy – think I’m going into National Velvet dream land here – the question is if he comes and lives in my back garden who’s going to ride him?
if Soldier of Fortune won the prix Niel in record time and Zambezi Sun wasn’t far behind and tenderly ridden I’m begining to realise that, with the O’Brien horses having one of their number as a pacemaker, Zambezi Sun fully wound up + Mandesha and the wild card, the German horse + Authorized I think we should be in for a fascinating race on Sunday.
I suppose that after Dawn Run’s sad demise in the French Champion Hurdle and accusations of running her when she was over the top it’s not been fashionable for trainers to run there. I don’t know how many British raiders there have been over the years or how successful they have been [has Nicky Henderson run a few over the years?]. As so many of our horses are French bred and would probably handle the going quite well maybe things will change, but at that time of year I would imagine that most trainers will be thinking of running their firm ground horses in the summer racing.
can’t seem to get on to oddschecker any more; the ladbrokes betting is usually pretty indicative of which horses the O’Brien team are planning to run [Peeping Fawn was taken out of their betting ages ago].
Zambezi Sun was very tenderly ridden in his last race KS and will improve for the run – I’ve never actually seen any of his races, but I’m pretty sure he’s been aimed at this all year. I’m assuming that this race is going to be shown on bbc, if not it’s a trip to the bookies for me I think. mo
we always underestimate the French runners [eg Bago] and forget that their horses are aimed at this race, so Zambezi Sun [who I was told to back ages ago at a huge price and didn’t] looks the winner to me. Aidan O’Brien makes things very difficult with not knowing which horses he intends to run, I’ve been following Yellowstone all season so am tempted to back him ew [if he runs]. Pity Peeping Fawn [this years superstar] isn’t running,
I’ve wondered over the past year or so how much time Kate Moss spends with her daughter – was she just a designer baby when it was fashionable? Whenever I read about these ‘celebrities’ and their exploits I want to query why they’re not at home looking after the kids.
that race at Aintree[?] won by Chief Dan George beating Wichita Lineman and an other[?]. I was going to back CDG but didn’t get to the bookies due to working later than planned. Was so relieved when CDG was well and truly beaten and had just started to nod off on the sofa when I heard CDG mentioned – the rest is history. The leaders had completely burnt themselves out.He was a huge price as well.
I don’t have satellite tv or digital; all I have is this computer [no broadband either] and terrestrial telly. I’ve often ‘watched’ races on ceefax – I won’t have a betting account [too tempting] so if I do have a bet at the bookies and it’s not on telly [and the chances are these days that it won’t be] I rush home and ‘watch’ it on ceefax. Now the Breeders cup is no longer televised I watch that on ceefax, also the Melbourne Cup. although that is usually on the radio. Was annoyed when Luke Harvey was dropped from Radio 5 because we always listened to him when we were going racing. There is less and less of everything to do with racing on the television; I just wonder where it will all end.The first thing I do when I get home from work is put the ceefax news on followed by the racing. Feel a bit disgruntled!
many thanks everyone for a truly chucklesome event, although I hadn’t realised how little I knew until now…..mo
race at Kelso was total prizemoney £20,000,winner £9,500….also did you know that Tony Dobbin was building some sort of training establishment with Rose Davidson at a place called South Hazelrigg which is off the A1 round Berwick way….
re Ballycassidy – was at Kelso in May when he won a class 3 and ran to the winners enclosure so that I could be really close to him! I didn’t realise from seeing him on the telly how absolutely tiny he is. Everyone, including the opposition were really pleased for Peter Bowen that day. I know he’ll be 12 next April, but how brilliant it would be for him to win, fingers crossed….
will the powers that be realise that a lot of racings appeal is it’s character and sense of history….what if someone started modernising Kelso [heaven forbid]. It’s made me realise that I must go further afield and support tracks that I don’t normally travel to eg Wetherby, Market Rasen etc
I was going to have an ew on Blue Ksar and felt a bit daft when I realised he was running as a pacemaker; not sure what to do now…would feel dafter if he won…
ever since the rains stopped my village has been plagued with mosquitoes and I swear they’re getting bigger by the day. I had a holiday plug in thing in the kitchen which has run out so now go to bed covered in Jungle Formula. For a while people in my village were walking around covered in weeping sores, it was like the village of the damned…..I am quite concerned….my daughter has a fear of spiders and once tried to jump out of a moving car to get away from one.she puts it down to having one fall on her face when she was very young, and the fact that I read Charlottes Web to her when she was also very young so she can’t swat them because they have lots of babies and talk to pigs……
looking forward to Paul Nicholls doing an Aiden O’Brien and having a choice of twenty horses in each race; the difference being that O’Brien only has one set of owners to keep happy – will be a bit like plate spinning [but much more exciting]. horses of interest What a Friend, Woolcombe Folly, Willyan Woody [?] and Nevadah Royale. and of course Kauto Star [if my blood pressure can take it]. Seeing Hardy Eustace win the stayers [grand little horse] and Chief Dan George. Also seeing the northern trainers do really well again…can’t wait….mo
can I just watch???? is it a bit like brain training? or a handicap? do I get a 5lb allowance?? mo
