I had the pleasure of going to Haydock this afternoon – for the first time in a little while.
It was one of the most peculiar cards I have ever seen with four races over 6f for two-year-olds to kick things off.
But the main talking point was the muddy expanse where the hurdles (I think) track used to be with no chase fences in sight. It looks like an all-weather course!
I’m sure TRF regulars have discussed this before but the loss of Haydock’s proper chase fences is a huge one and we can only hope other flagship jumps tracks don’t go down the same route.September 28, 2007 at 23:07 #117034I plan to vote with my feet.
By planting some steel toecaps into Tellwright’s dangly bits if I get the chance.

September 29, 2007 at 07:55 #117052will the powers that be realise that a lot of racings appeal is it’s character and sense of history….what if someone started modernising Kelso [heaven forbid]. It’s made me realise that I must go further afield and support tracks that I don’t normally travel to eg Wetherby, Market Rasen etc
September 29, 2007 at 09:06 #117068Absolutely, Mo – visit them all while you can. Today’s Kelso could be tomorrow’s Rothbury, or Bogside, or Lanark…. as such, I’d love some official confirmation one way or the other whether the cessation of racing at Tralee is with immediate effect. If it isn’t, I’m there next time they race. Period.
