Shalanaya is resting at her owners stud farm, and is due return to training next month.
I remember being told ages ago that the IV suffix was something to do with the stud book and that the dam of the horse concerned was not 100% thorough bred.
and also for the record, aswell as yesterday, there will be 12 race cards at Deauville on Dec 9 10 18 19 23 24 29 30 Jan 3 4 8 9.
On a quick look through, the least valuable race I could find was a claimer with £14,500 (approx) in added money.
As the Dubian dirham is pegged to the dollar, is it possible for currency speculators to influence its value?
Chantilly/Gouvieux station is 100 metres from the mile and a half start. The train is 25 mins from Gare Du Nord.
Ghost,
It was 1978.
Any other questions on the 78/79 season? I suspect I i will get round to putting that form book back into storage in the next 48 hrs, but at the moment it is at hand………..
Ghost,
it was the 16th December and the meetings were Nottingham and Catterick
In the last ITV 7 race of that day, Eminence, the 8/13, was 2nd beaten a half length, having been left in the lead at the second last and making an error at the final flight he was just touched off by Clems Boy.
The other ITV 7 winning horses that day were:
Little Owl 15/2
Irish Tony 3/1
Silver Shadow 6/4
Cavity Hunter 6/4
Santon Brig 7/4
Tony 9/2His five biggest wins were
’74 Marlowe Ropes John Skeaping Hurdle at Sandown (race no longer exists)
’74 SGB Hurdle at Ascot (called something like the Knights Royal Hurdle these days)
’74 Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, when he was the 30/100 favourite
76 Buchanan Whisky Gold Cup Chase at Ascot (over 2m, these days called the Amlin 1965 Chase and run over 2 1/2 miles)
’77 Mecca Bookmakers H’cap Chase at Sandown (2m at the December meeting)
Was it not a white cap with a black star?
I am intrigued to know how the marketing men expect to raise "increased revenue from TV deals to provide the main series prize".
Currently C4 is in effect paid to cover UK racing, this situation must, in the future, make it difficult for the BBC to justify paying for something which is handed out free to a rival. ITV dropped horse racing in the early 80s and have made few noises about being interested in it, and again why should they pay for something that their sister network has been getting for nowt? Sky has access already to some of the races in the proposed series through attheraces, but the others are on the rival RUK, and I do not forsee a sudden calming of the waters in the ATR/RUK rivalry. So where are these many millions supposed to be coming from?
"Neil Watson" has hit the nail on the head with this one. The Prince of Wales used to be the ideal lead up for an older horse for the Eclipse – when it was a Group 2. Nowadays instead of being the major trial it is a direct competitor to the Eclipse.
It is also interesting to reflect that although the Eclipse is much more valuable, the allure of Royal Ascot has meant that the Prince of Wales is very quickly becoming as important a race
Artemis – Jim Joel left money in his will so that his colours are registered inperpetuity, and therefore cannot be used again.
Scallyway76 – Monica Sherrif’s colours were Blue Birdseye (blue with very small white spots). And the blue and yellow Rothschild colours – arent those the ones you carried in the 76 Leger?
And what about:
Mollers – chocolate and gold (Teenoso/Pentire etc)
Mrs Valentine – pink with red hearts (Plundering)
And here is a fun question, anyone know or want to guess which trainer/owner had all Royal Blue and sold them to Godolphin?
I dont think it is fair to say "he allowed his horse to roll down to the rail", from what I remember he made a definite decision to switch left and in the process almost brought down Dettori. I think he was lucky to get off with (I think) a 3 day ban
"Voy Por Ustedes" is what a matador says as he stabs the bull
The Liverpool Grand National, Doncaster Lincoln and Newbury October meetings all used to mixed meetings. Liverpool became a jumps only fixture when they did away with flat racing, Doncaster wanted the Lincoln meeting to be flat only to "launch" the Flat Season in style and Newbury, from what i remember changed their fixture on economic grounds.
I seem to remember Chepstow having a mixed card for a while on the late Spring Bank Holiday Monday, two hunter chases – the finals of some sort of point to point series, and the remainder of the card flat racing.
The May Saturday fixture at Nottingham has been covered on C4 for some years now
