What are the jockey plans for Da re Mi and Rainbow View? Any news yet?
Fanshawe has not been in the winners much lately, wonder if there is a virus / cough in the yard?
Surely if Spacious was in good form she would go to Ireland.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines myself….I didn’t see the RUK intereview so don’t know if he talked about why he’s not going to Ireland (apart from "I want to aim him at Ascot" perhaps?). The Irish 1000 would look like an ideal target for the horse (IMHO!)

Thanks! I was worried that perhaps she might end up as a "nul points" on my entry through injury. May well end up as a zero scorer in any case, but at least I wanted a run.

A Ballydoyle horse (depending on who they run) is the only one that might get near New Approach
Which one is going to be the No 1 runner from Ballydoyle?
Sitting here holding a raft of a-p bets on Jupiter Pluvius from 25-1 down, and hoping to lay off some at a decent (ie around 8-1 tops) price. I’m worried that Ladbrokes still offer the horse at 10-1. Any clues as to what JM will ride…??

I’m on Jupiter Pluvius at 28, 25 and 18.
Had a good win on Footsteps in 2005 Guineas at 25-1, so hoping history repeats itself….

If Kinloch Brae was around today his ideal race at the Festival (IMO) would probably be the Ryanair. He was a terrific "stag like" jumper and was a bit of a sensation in his novice season. Going purely from memory here I recall (or at least I think I do!) being at Punchestown in 1969 when L’Escargot had his first race over fences and KB was odds-on fav for the race…won in a canter, but I left there feeling that L’Escargot would be the better chaser in time – though I will admit to being biased towards L’Escargot since I first saw him as a novice hurdler..
I was at Cheltenham on Gold Cup day in 1970 when KB fell….I don’t think he would have won even had he not fallen, but that’s a matter of opinion.
KB was probably the first post-Arkle "star" to emerge in Ireland as "The New Arkle"…. followed by Captain Christy, Ten Up, and the like. His jumping was really quite spectacular, but I never felt he was a horse to see out a tough slog of a race.

My best wins have been on AP markets. Footstepsinthesand at 20/1 for the 2000, single and doubled with Hardy Eustace in the Champion at 9/1. Also Pasternak for the Cambs doubled with Peintre Celebre for the Arc, and tripled with Top Cees for the Ces….pity about the last one! I’ve had some setbacks in the AP markets too, of course, but overall from above in particular have more than covered.
Currently sitting on all combos of Sublimity for Champion, Voy Por in the Queen Mother, My Way de Solzen in the Gold Ciup, and Jupiter Pluviius for the 2000. Silly maybe, but as Jimmy Fitzgerald once remarked "You only need to land one at long odds to make it pay…".

Dancing Brave winning the Arc….J
I backed LG after her first run at 20-1 for the 1000. Had been thinking of laying off but once the dreaded "moving to Godolphin" phrase hit the news my mind was made up…..kiss of death. Pity….I had felt (or should that be "worried") that LG was likely to be bought but hoped they’d leave her with PCH.

August 8, 2007 at 15:15 in reply to: Dont pay your mortgage for a year have the money on NZ! #110883NZ have a relatively poor record as "sure things" in World Cup Rugby since they won in 1987. I agree that on form alone they look good things for this one, but I’ll probably open up my bets on the tournament by laying them, particularly at the sort of prices being quoted.
May not be the right thread to ask this question, but why did Sandy Barclay go from being a top rider to virtual nobody so quickly. After Geoff Lewis took over the Murless stable job, Barclay just seemed to fade out. I know he came back and rode with some success some years later but drfited away again. Weight? Drink?

I know that the background to the two cases and individuals are different but why should KF be denied the opportunity – if guilty and punished – of a second chance (Not that I think he will be found guilty….) as comparted to another who served his time as a result of a little matter in his chosen profession…… (this is a "cut & paste" from a financial website)…
"Terry Ramsden is rapidly becoming a favourite of the newspaper market reporters and the bulletin boards. But we are at a loss to understand recent events. We suspect somewhere that logic and gravity are being defied. Mr Ramsden is a convicted fraudster. He has done porridge. Emerging from his time at HM’s pleasure he has apparently become a successful racehorse owner and huge gambler on the nags. He is, we are told, a very charming and charismatic fellow. But would we trust a man with such a past to look after our money? What is more remarkable is the way that his buying into two quoted companies has seen their stock rocket on the basis of – it seems – nothing more than Mr Ramsden’s arrival…etc etc"
Or is it OK for one but not the other…??
….for betting purposes I meant!

He’s hardly going to throw a Group race or indeed a Coolmore horse is he?
Perhaps that shows the wisdom of focusing on top class races and ignoring the dross…?!

Quote: from tooting on 4:00 pm on July 3, 2006[br]John,
since these charges have been hanging over him and since he moved back to Ireland it is true to say that gripes about perceived dodgy riding performances by him have pretty much ceased.
However, prior to that, and during the period under investigation, there was no end of speculation as to what a dodgepot he was. Including from me.
It could be hypothesised that he cleaned up his act as a direct result of the investigations?
And KF is the only top rider to arouse such suspicions….warranted or otherwise?
Anyway, I think I’ll wait till I see what the exact allegations are b4 I post any more…. bit of a difference between "He remarked to me that he didn’t fancy it!" (which I’ve had implied to me by several people in racing, directly and indirectly over the past thirty years!) and "He’s going to stop it!"….which I haven’t been told, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen…and it wasn’t KF.
J
Guess I’d be pretty safe laying againsty KF being "BBC Sport Personality of the Year 2006"…??
J
Just an observation that if he was "riding to lose rather than to win" you might expect more obvious signs of an army of disgruntled punters bemoaning his performances…. a "mere observation", not a "statement of proof of innocence or otherwise"…
