Agree with most of what’s been said on this thread. Haven’t been able to view the forum regularly of late – but it’s nice to see debates such as this still going strong.
If only we had an opposition party that included the likes of stevedvg/davej and grasshopper.
(As interesting as Ian Davies’ views are, I rather think he’s more of a " new labour " man.)
Stevedg has called it right I’d say. This was a good election for the Conservatives to lose.
Kotki.. you’ve obviously put in a good deal of work to define "prejudice" so thoroughly. Now look up "tolerance".
Hmm Rory, that’s a tough question. What’s better than sex? After much thought, I can only suggest the 10 minutes preceding sex!
I wonder what products people in North Korea would like to boycott ?
Yes, it’s awfully bad news for the workforce. As someone who has been made redundant a couple of times in recent years, they have my sympathy.
Don’t think any (more) taxpayers money should be wasted on Rover though. Pity none of the main political leaders didn’t have the nuts to say this. Could it be that there’s an election in the offing?
Does anyone think Rover shpuld be baled out by the taxpayer?
good question Centralpark
Canada, New Zealand, Australia, USA and Rhodesia (before it became Zimbabwe and went downhill).
Never really set too much store by graphology Steve, but your analysis seems pretty good.
Re. the Cherie thing, perhaps she doesn’t like Tony always wanting the "third way"!
I concede the USA probably does have a higher proportion of fruitcakes than anywhere else. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that "America is a violent and horrible country" as dj does. (Although I’ve never been to the States.) I’ve never been to Zimbabwe or North Korea either, but I reckon the average working class Joe is better off in the States than in either of those two countries.
Just out of curiosity, which country do others think serves the average working class person best?
I trust you’re not referring to Boris Johnson, insomniac
dj – a bit of an unfair comparison. The USA has 9 times the population of Canada, so it’s fair to say they have 9 times as many fruitcakes.

Great idea Rory. I’d happily contribute something to a race even though it might not be possible for me to attend.
Very sad news; always made a point of reding his posts and , as others have said, he’ll be sadly missed.
Most of us who have expressed an opinion on here regarding fox-hunting are unlikey to change that opinion, so I am loath to enter this argument now. However, I feel it worth correcting the oft repeated canard that the fox caught by hounds is alive when "ripped apart". Common sense must tell even the most vehement of antis that not all hounds catch up to the fox simultaneously. The first hound to catch the fox kills the fox as nature intended – by going for its neck and breaking it as quickly as possible. Any predator that doesn’t kill its’ prey quickly, risks injury and ultimately starvation. In practically every case, the fox is dead when the rest of the pack catch up.
You might still disagree with fox hunting – fine, but at least accept that a foxhound kills quickly and efficiently and that the fox is NOT ALIVE WHEN TORN APART BY THE PACK. A foxhound kills vermin more effectively than other methods (snares, gas, poison, road-kill, blood-poisoning, hypothermia, starvation).
Kotkijet…Just a thought re. boycotting things American; do you boycott all things Microsoft?
Boycotting Nestle because of the powdered milk scandal seems honourable enough. (Pity about Aeros though, I particularlyu like the peppermint ones.)
Worth pointing out though that Nestle is a Swiss company I believe and not from the deemed capital of big-business evil, the USA.
For my part, I shall support M&S with renewed vigour.
