Never hunted, never want to, but wouldn’t ban it.
I look forward to seeing all those who feign animal welfare in the Commons (Tony Banks, Gerald Kauffman, John Prescott etc.) pressing for a ban on kosher and halal abattoirs in the UK.
This is a liberty being removed because of class bigotry, not because of any deep seated concern over animal welfare, that’s why it’s such a shoddy act. Or perhaps Banks and co are trying to ban halal and kosher butchery!
One thing you can be sure of though is that if fox-hunting was the pastime of gays, muslims or jews no action would have been taken against it by our Labour bigots.

His comments about TRF were, of course, nonsense. This article apart though, I’ve always enjoyed reading Paul Haigh; don’t always agree with him, but there is a place for his approach in the racing press.
Bear in mind that he’s Welsh and likes cricket, so is obviously a little unbalanced!
Agreed RD. Formula 1 has always (to me) been one of the most boring sports around. Maybe they should ballot who should drive what car rather than always having a driver in the same one.
jdc – well, yes – I can understand a liking for small jump courses. No crowds, more genuine racing fans – less posers. Bangor has improved quite a bit in the last year or two (presumably down to the new management). Nowadays there’s even hard-standing in most of the car parks!
They have hare-coursing there I believe. I wonder what that’s like? Might give it a try one day.
jdc – I’ve been going to Bangor for years know – a kind of masochistic ritual. The sun does occassionally shine there I’m told; just never when I go.
Epsom Derby / Royal Ascot / Cheltenham I avoid nowadays because the crowds are insufferable.
Newmarket July : nice atmosphere – rubbish viewing.
Doncaster – doesn’t seem to have much atmosphere for a "top" track.
Newmarket Rowley: about as welcoming as gangrene and rubbish viewing.
Aintree – too crowded and if it rains there’s little or no cover for those who don’t want to watch the racing in the bars.
Chester has a great atmosphere and gets crowds most other courses that staged cards with nothing better than group 3’s on would die for. Trouble is, what was once the best course in the country for viewing has now been spoiled by too many corporate tents in the middle of the track.
So – York and Sandown get my vote.
For atmosphere (but crap viewing) – Cartmel takes some beating.
(Pontefract’s a smashing track – and Hamilton)
Naffest of the lot – Bangor-on-Dee
It’s wrong to compare Best Mate with Arkle, so I won’t bother.
I will say though that Best Mate is not as good as Mill House.
