Not sure about this one. Ok would love to see it although it definitely wouldn’t happen if the ground was like last years King George. The other thing is, if the horse did bottom out, would we ever see the same horse again? Thinking back to Azertyuiop a few years ago. OK not as good as Sprinter Sacre but still a class horse. And if he then did win the KG easy enough would there be a temptation by the owners to go for the GC. 2 furlongs extra on a stiffer track. I know what NH and BG would think of that with Bobs Worth and Long Run still probably in there.

So I am guessing the place money goes into the win money and so for instance a £1 e/w bet becomes a £2 win bet. I did the same with the outsider Brick Red and was not sure wht happened. But as mine was only in a 50p e/w lucky 15 then wasn’t going to worry about it until I’d had a few more places, which didn’t quite materialise. Still, no doesn’t seem fair although you should no the rules (unlike me  ) when you make the bet and its the chance you take. As for the odds which you can’t control, the Bookies can and as usual its a two finger salute to the punter

So no sorry can’t help much but rules are rules.

I think that all cars should be banned as these are a danger to animals especially in the countryside

Would it really be a bad thing to stop the National and other races over the GN fences. OK I do love to watch it but its the one race a year where 95% of those watching probably know f all about racing. People get in my way in the bookies on a saturday morning. Last year I had all my bets written out, went to look at the non-runners and when I came back one of the staff had been round "cleaning up". Selections in a big bag of rubbish

Ok I did alright last year. winner, 2 places and a faller and haven’t done bad in the past decade but ususally its been the bookies who have won. The odds on some of the horses are ridiculous. 6/1 the field at ladbrokes in a 40 runner handicap over them fences. Today the Topham was 10/1 for a 30 runner race.

I would suggest just running the race over the Mildmay course over 4.5 miles with a max of 30 runners (I am guessing the course can accomodate 30 runners?)and call it the Grand National. Would people who don’t know any different (ie the 95% who dont usually watch) know that its just a normal saturday afternoon handicap with a slightly bigger field and slightly longer distance. But if you call it THE NATIONAL people will still have a bet, won’t they? Ok there may be a drop in prizemoney but why should a handicap be worth 3 times more than the Gold Cup!

Or would this may a victory for the animal rights activists who will then stop at nothing to go even further and ban all racing?

Tuesday – super day ith 4 winners in a £1 lucky

Wednesday – The winner of the bumper helped make it profitable.

Thursday – Worst day with a couple of places

Friday – Gold cup winner helped but still made a loss

Overall about a 20% profit on stakes made, which is better than average but as usual thought the racing was super.

    Back to work tomorrow :(

Saw Back in Focus win at Listowel back in September by about 360 lengths. Ruby got him jumping from the front that day and a similar jumping performance must put him close again.

I just have to back The Fly although the past few days Zarkandar has been eating away the brain cells so by 3:20 will probably have a saver on him. Which means Rock on Ruby or Grandouet will probably win

The price of some of his runners are reflected due to the amazing success he has had this season, over 100 winners ahead of the next trainer. You can’t expect every odds on fav. to win or he probably would be 150 winners ahead although some of his so-called second string also beat the short priced horse. Nicholls and Henderson also have losers like this in England even when in top form.

    This point is obviously correct.

Jumps racing has only been around for a couple of hundred years. Were it to continue for a even just a few tens of thousands of years (a mere blip in human development terms) then the idea that greatest horse of ‘all time’ has appeared in the first 0.5% or whatever of racing’s history is extremely unlikely.

Statistically speaking, Arkle is an absolute certainty to be surpassed.

    Mike

But the Racing game has already changed in that short space of time, with the top class races now at level weights instead of handicaps. Whos to say in another 50 years time there won’t be another rule change to make comparisons of different generations of horses even more difficult.

Although I missed the racing yesterday afternoon (Sprinter Sacre et al), I was horrified to learn on a later programme, a Winterwatch special, about the ’63 winter and there was no racing for about 2 months from Boxing Day onwards. One bookies resorted to racing mice in his shop. Wonder what the H&S guys would think of that nowadays. How would we cope if this winter was repeated :?:
