. . . is pick three on a saturday then DON’T back them in a 62p e/w trixie. Instead I stop outside the the bookies on my way to the pub and drop five pound coins down the drain opposite the door.
I have had no cause to regret this. And the bookie gets nothing.
Try it, it is rather good, and very symbolic of the ‘game’.January 27, 2013 at 09:47 #427666This drain could be worth a visit. Location please

so we all must pay,
for the drivel he feeds. Most punters will lose
some blame it on booze,
but some will succeed.Must be something in the air
that makes others stare,
may be it’s breed. And now I’m ashamed to say
what I ought to say.
What do I know?Only idiots act this way,
or so they say.
So here I go.Wisdom will not make you wise,
it’s just stupid in my eyes
Oh what the hell!Time that’s taken in my book,
And now that took…

I have had no cause to regret this. And the bookie gets nothing.Wouldn’t it be better to keep the money in your pocket and treat yourself to something with it rather than blatantly wasting it?
A treat, such as something to eat or drink, would be better.
Or failing that, how about putting the money in a charity box so that someone else got the benefit? It would be a better use of the money.
£5 may not be much but it would add up over the weeks. Or put it aside each week and save up for a treat, such as a new item of clothes, or something worthwhile.
I can’t understand people who deliberately waste money like this in empty gestures when so many people are struggling through no fault of their own …

I wouldn’t be so sure, based on his previous contributions, Ginger. He sounds deadly serious to me!

Don’t worry, it’s never happened.

January 27, 2013 at 11:41 #427692I thought he was talking about FOBT then I realised this bloke is just a troll, can’t escape them these days they are ruining the Internet.
January 27, 2013 at 13:42 #427706Throwing money away whether on a non tryer or down a drain is clearly not sensible. I have saved money since I stopped backing, soon off on holiday.

January 27, 2013 at 21:27 #427747All bookies have siphons fitted to the local drains, just in case. They think of everything, that’s why they are always a step ahead of the people who would give Grands Crus "Just one more chance"
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

No – time – at all!Astonishing: we’ve found a worse poet than William McGonagall!
I didn’t have a bad day, I had a good day. I took no notice and was much the better for it. I say this to other punting pals who are astonished that my preoccupation with the punting on the Turf has vanished. I simply say the truth: why p*ss yourself off? Racing will always p*ss you off basically. 2pc fun, 98pc wasted mental energy and finances. Even when you’re in profit it’s such a slog and for what? For it to p*ss you right off again.
If you like being annoyed and watching rich people enriching themselves further at the expenses of the poor then get involved.January 29, 2013 at 09:07 #427855I simply say the truth: why p*ss yourself off? Racing will always p*ss you off basically. 2pc fun, 98pc wasted mental energy and finances.
But it’s not
the truth
is it? It’s your opinion. Or
your
truth to be more precise.
For me, racing is approximately 100 percent fun. Give or take.

January 29, 2013 at 09:46 #427859Connections have racing pretty much sewn up to the exclusion of all others, they have their own networks and foolproof means of keeping info to themselves. The exchanges allow them to cover costs for transporting horses to courses where they will not be trying. This is not conjecture, racing is all about disguise and subterfuge.
January 29, 2013 at 09:49 #427860Exactly Mike,
Could not put it better myself. I really couldn’t. Am apparently banned from mentioning "percentages".
I simply say the
truth
: why p*ss yourself off? Racing will always p*ss you off basically. 2pc fun, 98pc wasted mental energy and finances. Even when you’re in profit it’s such a slog and for what? For it to p*ss you right off again.
If you like being annoyed and watching rich people enriching themselves further at the expenses of the poor then get involved.Prof,
How does your "truth" fit with my "profit"?Your "profit is only temporary or within a certain time zone. You are LOSING over all. "Profit" is NO "profit" unless it is over all "profit". I assure you the latter is very enjoyable indeed.
But you don’t even need to make a profit to enjoy racing, think of it as enjoying a hobby. Any hobby costs a little money. Even running has a stake, buying the kit. My enjoyment of running (even the pain) makes it worth the effort. Or if you go down the pub, staking the money on a beer for your enjoyment.
Once again you are blaming others for your own inadequacies. It is NOT the fault of "rich people", they don’t force the poor to bet on the wrong horses.

I read that before posting my post Woolf, and immediately guessed it was you.
If
"racing is all about disguise and subterfuge"
, then how come I make a damn good profit without any "inside information"; ie from just studying form? Those same form books that you apparently study.

Ginge,I think everyone knows how you make your profit by now…..
YOU BACK EVERY BLOODY HORSE IN THE RACE
.Your Mathematical style of betting works well for you and long may it continue, its very cold and calculated and I sense you have to distance yourself from getting too attached to certain horses. The only similarity between my way and yours is I also try to cover certain bets by backing e/w, that way I know I’m playing for 3 places and because my Ante-Post bets are generally at odds that allow a decent profit margin for a place I have the safety of covering my win stakes should they all lose, which inevitably they all do!!
