I would encourage others to complain and whinge at full volume, let the authorities know that regulation must be tougher
Which regulation(s) do you feel should be ‘tougher’?

February 23, 2013 at 10:45 #430311Must be thousands of conspiracy theories rushing around in your head Woolfie.

Nobody is saying the game is 100% straight.
When betfair first came on to the scene it probably did make things worse. But since then their paper trails have made it infinitely easier to identify wrongdoing; so now crooks know they stand a good chance of being found out.
What’s more: Since betfair’s introduction – bookmakers themselves have been forced to do their own paper trails and identify those they believe at fault. Something that simply did not happen before…
So there’s every chance the game has never been as straight as it is now. Of course we should not be complacent, but neither should we exaggerate/make out skulduggery is rife.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 23, 2013 at 10:52 #430314honesty and integrity are rare commodities
Really?
In my experience "honesty and integrity" are the norm, it is only the "rare" minority that are a problem.Value Is EverythingFebruary 23, 2013 at 11:00 #430316The whole question of non-triers needs very close scrutiny. It’s endemic at present and the number tipsters offering paid for tips is indicative of this.
This is a quote from Timeform :
"Non-triers are rarely picked up by the racecourse stewards… who seem blind to such things.’’
Poor prize money is often given as a reason but what is a large enough prize? The exchanges mean that a horse can be sent out to lose and costs of transportation recouped.
Stewardship exists but is a toothless hound.
As far as policing by the exchanges and bookmakers are concerned, how difficult can it be to spread stakes thinly in these days of innumerable online bookmakers etc?
Oddschecker currently display 19 bookmakers/ exchanges offering odds and that is certainly not a fully comprehensive list. Staking large sums is not a problem.
February 23, 2013 at 11:22 #430319Of course "non-triers need very close scrutiny", who said they don’t? Stewards need to do better, but skulduggery is not rife.
I say again, if it was rife then many currently successful form students would not be able to show a profit.
Poor prize money is a problem, if it is not worth connections winning a race then skulduggery is obviously more likely. The answer is simple, get rid of the poorest grade. Even if this is not done, punters can just ignore the poor stuff.

I think you’ll find that there have been an unlimited number of tipsters around since punters were informed that Adam was going to eat the apple first. Then they were offered ‘odds-to’ terms for a month as recompense…
To repeat the question Woolf, which regulation(s) do you feel should be tougher?
