Although I think Davy Russell is still a good jockey, he’s now getting on a bit and may struggle to do low weights – and you know the penalties Michael O’Leary gives if you are overweight

2003 Kerry National – Think it was 2 from home when Cloudy Bays fell after leading all the way. Still going well enough but may not have won. Remember this as i had a few quid on. Had backed against Cloudy Bays the year before in a 3 horse race won by my pick a 10/1 shot Brown ??? Cloudy Bays BD first fence with faller, leaving Norman Williamson to complete the 2 circuits of the track on his own

Interested to read the blog, Betlarge.

I picked four winners today at Ascot, but only backed one. The one with the smallest price.

I will appreciate a how-to guide to keeping sanity and temper.

Did you have Excellent Guest? Did anyone?

I am sure there will be 1 or 2 who religiously back Tom Queally and will have had a good day. Well done to them

Seemed to stop riding Monsfield about 10-20 yards from line for a split second which may have cost him the outright win. Mind you he must have been more knackered than the horse with all them smacks

Thought Claire Balding’s face was a picture when the Sheikh cut the interview short. Not sure it was like a new naughty school girl look after been told off or a glance into the camera to tell her bosses "I knew that would happen but you wanted me to go through with it"

Started following racing seriously about 10 years ago so missed Walsh/Geraghty coming through the ranks. Seen a few good ones come through since like O’Regan/Townsend/Brennan. All I consisdered when younger really bloody good jockeys who could go a long way. Watching this lad Cooper in the last 18 months or so he seems to have that little bit extra, probably the same as a Walsh/Geraghty in the late 90s. Definitely one to follow and witha great career ahead of him, touch wood. Would not be surprised if he took over one of them at Nicholls/Henderson in the future.

Just can’t believe I missed Ruby on a 25/1 winner. Wondered why he hadn’t been riding in Britain or Ireland. Must keep more in tact with the racing going on in the world. :( But well done to the 2 maeastros Mullins & Walsh :D

I bow to you, Ginger. Top work and I hope you’ll be treating yourself to a few drinks tonight.

As for me, this is my 16th National without picking the winner. Might need some serious therapy if I get to 20.

I got to 15 but only used to back one. The first time I backed 2 in the race I had the winner (Monty’s Pass). I have now had 4 winners but usually back 4 for the race. Yesterday If you’d have backed a £1 e/w on every horse you would have made a fair profit. Maybe this is the way to go

Exactly. Just look at poor Darlan the other week. Yet I didn’t hear anyone crowing about how hurdle racing should be banned after this unfortunate accident, high profile horse that he was.

OK we got away with it this year and we may the next 2 or 3 but there will be another fatality in this race whether its at a fence or a collapse and then the Activists will start up again.

    HERE HERE!

No fatalities to horse or serious injuries to jockeys means we may get the name of the winner on the BBC News. (Yesterday was SS mentioned???)

The start was the best for a long while

Great for Sue & Harvey Smith especially as I’m West Yorkshire also :D

I’m sure some of these these Animal Rights Activists will have mixed feelings about the outcome of the race :?

11/2 is a fair price but not overpriced. You are backing with a certain amount of blind faith in this animal on recent form. He must owe some punters a fair bit

People get in my way in the bookies on a saturday morning.

    That’s the clincher for me.

I was actually looking at his past races form on Wed night and was surprised to see him in this at 13, as i’d backed him a few times prob 3-4 years ago. Did I back him?…..
