fair do`s alan. i see your point actually cos i spend most days at home betting and watching racing and even if you`re winning it can be a bit boring and i can see how getting in to ATR may well help clear your head.
must get to go racing more but its bloody freezing at the moment !

i acnt say i`d agree with you ian.

perhaps alan could tell us why if he is a succesful pro gambler, he needs to go and spend an afternoon on ATR for what i beleive to be a pittance of a fee ? no disrespect alan honestly but i cant see why you want to appear on there so often ?

i personally think over a year collier would come out on top no probs followed closely by fox and then potts !

ian i have heard this argument many times about why a succesful tipster would need to sell his tips, why not lump on even more himself.

whatever the reasons are the fact is some tipsters see the subs they collect as easy money in addition to their own profits so why not ?

also apart from short price horses, were you can lump on betfair as much as you like, if you are a very succesful punter then lumping on big price horses does become very very difficult. bookies start restricting and closing your accounts and even on betfait there is not always lumps of dosh for those wanting to back at big prices. so in these circumstances a genuine succesful punter may well have to sell his tips so that he doesnt have the problem of not always getting on and the subs make up for that.

you can make money from taking the right advice as i have proven !

morgans harbour- lost the habit of backing my selections 2 years ago !
i kept a record and lost £10k in 12 months and that told me everything i needed to know.
since then i have the very rare flutter but to very very small stakes in comparison to my proper betting, so just tipsters now.

well there`s me valueseeker, but not sure if i would class myself as a pro punter as such but nevertheless make a living from betting only.

well re Thommos tipping…….officially the worst rated tipster from all those monitored by RID……..to £100 level stakes in 2001……loss of £27000 !!!!

to keep advertising like he does is a disgrace and is clearly ripping people off !!

ESC- just a point on the CH4 cameras, surely they have cameras focused on most of the leading trainers to capture their reactions…. i dont think there is anything in the fact that they had a camera on AOB.

i`ve only just started to read this thread today and can`t believe some people think there might even be a slight chance that any bookie would take a bet of £100k for Istabraq to be pulled up……..absolute crap !!!!!

in any case i`m sure if you telephoned PP customer services or their PR people they would probably tell you if such a bet was struck, obviously without telling you who struck it…………but then that wouldn`t apply anyway because no such bet was struck!!!

    nice price indeed !

Timeline advised a late MAX bet on this 5 mins before the race on the basis the price was just too big.
£1500 @ 13/8 very nice !
see ch4 text page 572 and the man from the Tote moaning about how they were done just before the race!!

    keith makes a valid point.
all this talk on here and one or two other threads about people laying istabraq but crying tears of joy if he wins !

gambling and sentiment dont go together!

i didnt have a bet in the CH and did want Isty to win but if i had serious money on another horse then my concern would be for that horse and not Isty !

anyone putting money on horses and wanting to win long term cant let emotions get in the way !

ESC- see what you mean, i dont think you`ll find internet bookies willing to accept 70/30 bets and probably no bookies willing to accept 70% on the place part.

ESC- what do you mean which bookie would take a 70/30 bet?
if i wanted £70 win £30 place on a 16/1 shot all the bookies would accomodate, i`ve done it many times.

ESC- your example is certainly a good one where there is the potential of a good e/w "steal", however i think a lot of punters dont just look for those sorts of opportunities and bet most horses above say 4/1 e/w.

now this in most cases is because of the "fear factor" over losing runs.
although i`m certainly not sure, i would suggest most pro punters who make the game pay, do so by backing win only and as Steve said quite often more than one horse in a race.
i also agree with Steve in that when backing e/w,punters should consider splitting the stake say 70/30 in favour of the win clearly depending on the odds so that if its placed you just get your money back.

the likes of Mel Collier, Henry Rix, Pricewise etc rarely back e/w and are pretty succesful.

ESC- a question for you… if you have covered this in any of the past 10 pages of this topic then i apologise, but you say that you will bet on a horse which you think has the best chance of winning a race (providing it meets your criteria) regardless of the price.

do you ever back a horse which is not the most likely winner of a race in your eyes, BUT has a much better chance than the odds suggest ie it is massively overpriced?
i suppose a bit like the Pricewise philosophy.
