    Good luck TAPK!

Theyve got to beat Portugal or Brazil (whoever gets 2nd in Group G) before they get past the 2nd Round!

I hope its Portugal Nathan! Brazil are always to be feared!

I reckon Brazils chances hinge on what Kaka turns up…….fully fit,on song Kaka then theyl go very close. The way he inspires that team is unbelievable.

But if the injury Kaka has been carrying hasnt cleared up and/or hes below form then i reckon they are going to struggle badly and you could see someone upsetting them big time. They are more of a workhorse side this year than the usual flair.

If the spanish play to form they will probably win it anyway.

The latest on Torres is that he is expected to be fit for the opening game, if he’s fit and guaranteed to stay injury free then i would expect him to score more goals than David Villa however if there’s any concern over his fitness he could be subbed alot like in the Euros if I’m thinking correctly. Who’s the Spanish penalty taker?

I wouldnt be so sure….Villa is an absolute international goal machine(36 goals in 55 caps as opposed to Torres 23 in 72).

Fabiano is also a great bet. Hes Brazils main striker, scores most of their goals…..and is a tremendous player to boot.

This is one of my favourite events of the year.

I will go for the same two players as last year, they are Ali Carter and Mark Selby. Carter has reached the final before so knows what’s required but he has got a tough 1st round against Jamie Cope. That match could go either way but if Carter gets through he can go all the way.

Mark Selby is for me a future world champion but will it be this year. He was very unlucky last year to come up against John Higgins in the match of the championship. This year he could meet Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarters and if Selby can keep it close he can get under Ronnie’s skin like he has in the past. Having said that Ronnie has got a very hard draw who will have to be at the top of his game from the start.

John Higgins has to be a possible winner but I think it was Hendry in 95/96 to be the last back to back winner. The other possible winners for me are Neil Robertson and Mark Allen. Robertson is a very exciting player who can beat anyone on his day and Allen is one of those players who reserves his best for the longer matches at the Crucible.

Selby reminds me a bit of the late Paul Hunter….very good match player…..excels in events like the masters but is just a little short on the big stage. He may well win a world one day,but i dont think its cut and dried…..My bets this year are Ronnie,Allen and a little ew on Marco Fu as well at massive odds.

Would never have backed the winner even with the gamble, he didn’t seem to be a National horse to me and with that he was probably the best National winner for a long time with all the stats against him, but none the less, the scenes afterwards I think everyone would have enjoyed that, heartwarming scenes, and bar England winning the World Cup and Westwood achieving some Majors you cant look past McCoy for Sports Personality, people wanted it last year but he didnt deserve it for me, not one big race to his name but this year he has with the Champion Hurdle and now the National and the Ryanair along with a great 2nd in the Gold Cup and the Champion Chase, he has been thereabouts in every big race.

I indeed said to my mate that the gamble on dont push it was crazy….and i quote "itl be lucky to last a curcuit"……thats what i call foresight by me…not

Even though i had the 2nd and 3rd….i couldnt help but sort of will AP on going to the elbow.

    Was surreal.

   My turn to hide behind sofa. Now I know how Cormack felt.

Congratulations to Derek Adams and his Ross County team. They out fought and out played an unspired Celtic side, who lacked any motivation and more worryingly, any sense of occasion. :?

Neil Lennon will unlikely be offered the job now. The players masquerading as footballers let him and the fans down today. The lack of hunger and desire was palpable. Lennon told them a few home truths after the game and his after match comments spoke volumes about the squad he currently manages at Celtic Park.

I rate this as possibly Celtic’s worst defeat in their history. Akin to Berwick Rangers beating Rangers in 1967 – or just about.

    SUPERCOUNTYGO BALLISTICSELLIKARE ATROCIOUS :D

SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT….LENNONS HERE FOR 2 IN A ROW!!! :P

AA are a bunch of hypocrites – if you saw how their "supporters" acted you’d be amazed.

    Exactly….shower of weirdos imo.

Are they saying then that horses get sent out at Aintree to be deliberately killed?

Of course they dont….its just tragic accidents…and any of them that say horses race against their will….try getting one to race thats planted at the start and doesnt want to go!!

The national always seems to get this treatment because its an easy nationwide target.

I’m not sure the Scots contingency on here are wishing Wayne a speedy recovery, but anyway, Rooney aside, who would be your top 3 England strikers to go to the World Cup finals?
Below is a quick list of possibles. Not an inspiring bunch I’ll admit. The only saving grace is that the midfielders all have the capability to get on the score sheet.
    In no particular order:-
    a) Peter Crouch
    b) Gabby Agbonlahor
    c) Jermaine Defoe
    d) Darren Bent
    e) Emile Heskey
    f) Carlton Cole
    g) Bobby Zamora

Hardly a bunch to strike fear in any half decent team.
I’ll go for Defoe, Bent and Crouch.

I for one wish england all the best at the finals…..but witout rooney imo you are fecked.

    Id go Defoe,Crouch,Heskey.

I dont go along with the Ronnie being far far far better than everyone else that gets peddled a lot….not now anyway.I always feel he is ridiculous prices in some of the big events.

Ronnie to me nowadays has been struggling with something….and to me its NOT concentration…which has been his downfall in the past. The top top players are all of pretty similair standard nowadays imo. i.e Higgins and Ronnie you couldnt pick a winner even if Ronnie brought his A game.Robertson,Selby and even Ding Junhui are all capable players too…but have quirks….Robertson sometimes is too attack minded(a bit like allen),Selby lets himself too often on the biggest stage of all…and Ding is a tremendous all-round player…but doesnt handle pressure too well. If any one of those 3 won a world championship anytime soon noone would be surprised.I think the margins at the top now are so slight anyone could literally win it.

Good post, his record since winning his 1st World championship would go along that he’s beatable, 3 titles in 9 years.

    Genius –

    yes

Most naturally talented player ever –

    yes

    Greatest ever player –

    no

    World Championship record – R1, R2, QF, SF, R2, SF, SF, R1,

    W

    , SF, R1,

    W

    , QF, SF, QF,

    W

    , R2.

The fact he has yet to win it twice in a row puts him behind both Hendry and Davis in my book.

No doubt though it comes down to eras you are around in….a bit like racing really.

There is no doubt Davis was ahead of his time….likewise Hendry when he burst on the scene with his attacking brand of snooker(a fact borne out with the stat that still holds the record for century breaks).

I just think these days the standard is so high that there is no what you would call standout player in the big tournaments….no matter what JP and Davis in the studio at the bbc say about Ronnie during every interval in play(by there reckoning then Selby must be superhuman for the way he came back and beat Ronnie at the masters)!.

I really hope Ronnie can win the worlds this year…but i probably wouldnt back him at 100/30 or whatever he is.

I reckon it should be closer to 11/2 the field…with Ronnie and Higgins perhaps joint favourites and Selby next.

raymo61, you are right, of course, Anyone, irrespective of nationality – and who knows anything at all about football – would realise that Kenny Dalglish is a shoo-in for the number one Scotland striker spot. The guy was different class – and I saw him play for Celtic many times long before Bob Paisley came sniffing.

Fat Ally couldn’t have laced his boots.

Heres one for you then…to show im not a bigoted ****** …best ever old firm select

    1-11?

    Il go
    1.GORAM
    2.MCGRAIN
    3.GREIG
    4.GOUGH
    5.MCNEILL
    6.BAXTER
7.JOHNSTONE(wide positions theres not a lot between him and coop with Laudrup just ahead.)
    8.GASCOIGNE
    9.MCCOIST
    10.DALGLISH
    11.LAUDRUP

    Better that?

    Well thats some consolation!!

Theres only the 6 Gers players in the team. Super Ally would have scored anywhere given the service.

Anyway…lets hear youre countries best 11 in youre opinion

Obviously he can, but I don’t see him doing so. I wouldn’t get too carried away by his Gold Cup third. A great achievement undoubtably, but he stayed on past tired and non staying beaten horses who actually raced to win. He’s had a good season and will run well, but he wouldn’t be my choice as the winner.
As for Treadwell not keeping the ride, its not surprising really, it was a chance spare for him last year and had Nick Gifford had a horse in either race, he’d have been on that.

I didn’t think he would get anywhere near the place market in the Gold Cup, in what is a shorter distance. Venetia Williams mentioned prior to the race that, this was a warm up for the Grand National, so not to bad a race from Mon Mome, the big problem now is the price, because all of the bookmakers have now tightened their odds accordingly with Mon Mome & there is know value left.

    Mark :(

To be honest 3rd place downwards was a bit of a non event in the GC…..anyone that had a horse that could stay on at the end had a chance of snatching 3rd.

I dont think his form in the GC is as good as a lot of people are saying it is TBH.
