All depends on how England do at the World Cup or should I say how Rooney does…
April 10, 2010 at 20:16 #289425I dont think todays victory should over shadow just how poor a trainer I think Jonjo is.
He is given endless amounts of resources and rarely, very rarely indeed produces Grade wins for his owner.
In my view he is not a top class trainer, its a shame JP has most of his horses there but I guess loyalty is worth a lot to JP and its his money, his horses, his choice….
If it was not for loyatly im sure JP would drop Jonjo. Just by chance that all JP’s best horses are with other trainers who half about 10% of what O Neill has in terms of numbers?
What resources?? Some of the purchases made on behalf of JP are rather questionable, and I am not sure that Johnjo is involved in the purchases.

April 10, 2010 at 20:17 #289426Delighted for McCoy
Not quite a swansong perhaps, but enjoy yer man while you still can folks; he won’t be around a whole lot longer

JohnJ
Something I’ve never thought about lately but last time I was in the UK some guy called Hyde was responsible for advising JP and most of the time it’s got bog all to do with Jonjo what he buys. I would imagine Jonjo’s time is spent running Jackdaw not running round fields trying to find the next Nijinsky.
I knew some (CENSORED) would come on here with Jonjo can’t train crap and spoil the day…….unbelievable!!! A man trains over a hundred winner every year many many many of them which incidentally don’t belong to JP McManus.
He’s now taken a horse that most punters, if this forum is anything to go by said wouldn’t get 3 miles and won the Grand National with it……Guys a friggin genius in my book and in JP McManus’s
If everyone had a Kauto Star in their yard they’d all be winning Gold Cups……Jonjo never had him he had Exotic Dancer and by heel I defy anyone who says any other trainer would have got one ounce more out of the horse than Jonjo did.
Make me wanna scream Concol……..oops sorry Joncol got you confused with Coco the clown
April 10, 2010 at 21:03 #289444Sorry Joncol that is cretinous.
JJ and Wee Ant’ney have just won the Melling Chase and the National and all you can do is crab. Can it……
April 10, 2010 at 21:12 #289452Absolutely delighted for AP, even though he got the better of my horse to win, you still sometimes have to sit back and appreciate what you’ve just watched.
The emotion he showed, and from listening to his partner speak and what she said it meant to him and all the family was real spine tingling stuff.
Never have I felt that someone was so deserving to win a particular race…superb stuff.
April 10, 2010 at 21:49 #289471Delighted for AP, a perfect ride.

Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 10, 2010 at 23:26 #289493Well done AP,
Was a surreal moment for me…i ended up with the 2nd and 3rd….but was almost willing dont push it on.
April 10, 2010 at 23:30 #289494Here Here, echo everyone’s sentiments.
AP for Sports Personality of the year 2010.
April 11, 2010 at 01:03 #289509It was only until about half an hour after the race that it really dawned on me at how gutted I’d of been had AP chose to retire without ever having won the National. Memories of Jimmy Whites failed attempt at the crucible when managing to grab defeat from the jaws of victory in what was to be his last realistic chance of ever winning the world title came flooding back….. Not that this was APs last chance, but he may never get as close again. You never know in this game. Such a relief the whole McCoy-National thing is now a closed book… Phew!
The words almost got stuck in his throat at one point, I’m sure, but like the ultimate pro that he is, he didn’t falter. Just like the man.

Wouldn’t be so sure they can only put Don’t Push It up 5lbs. If Jonjo gives him a prep race in the Champion Hurdle you’ll know he’s fancied for the National

At least his participation was never in doubt…. I wonder what effect his last outing had on his early price? Hmmmm…
April 11, 2010 at 08:40 #289537……..Delighted for AP but not surprised to see the predictable tedious speculation about SPOTY led in its usual inane fashion by the Racing Post Question of the Day ( who thinks of the naff nerdy simplistic subjects of this drivel and more importantly do they think anyone cares about the opinions of the type of people who can be bothered to respond?)
Tony McCoy’s achievements (like Lester’s before him) are way beyond the tedious and tired SPOTY IMO but discredited though the system is it will be a disgrace that after setting the records that he has if he isn’t given a knighthood for services to sport at some stage.
Typically when asked before the race if he would give up one of his 14 championships for a National win he didn’t hesitate for a minute before saying no………..says it all about the man……..Nationals come and go but Championships remain for ever.
April 11, 2010 at 10:01 #289559I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned elsewhere, or indeed if I’ve got my facts wrong (highly likely!!), but I heard this was McCoys 15th attempt at winning the National. Didn’t Frankie win the Derby at his 15th attempt as well on Authorised?
I backed Maljimar and Palypso de Creek in the race, but I was really pleased for AP. I honestly though he would go the same way as Jonjo and never win the big race – after seeing Clan Royal so unluckily taken out by the loose horses at Bechers that time, I thought (and maybe others did too) that APs chance has gone. I’m delighted to say that I was wrong!
April 11, 2010 at 10:08 #289563AG…you’re ok, it was his 15th attempt.
BW…glad I’m not alone with my thoughts to SPOTY. It’s one of the TV lowlights of the year for sport. Wish I’d used "tedious and tired". Sums it up.

Yes he did, my mate said on that day too, AP will win the national at his 15th attempt too, but then forgot to back yesterday haha!
