What do we reckon? Did he jump the fence?
Envoi Allen won well but I suppose he had to at 1-4. I was really impressed with how he winged the second last. Looked an absolute natural but 3-1 for Cheltenham is crazy. He may not be much shorter on the day.
I have had a small punt on Diego du Charmil as well. It is not a race I have a strong view on but Nicholls on a Saturday is never a bad choice.
I might be mad but I have had a small punt on The Worlds End. He has been very disappointing but maybe it is worth giving him one more go when he is fresh.
Punted Mister Malarky each way with 5 places at Betfred. Although I must admit I am scared a bit by Vinndication despite my earlier comment.
He was beaten a nose by Might Bite in the RSA, not the Gold Cup. And that was only because Might Bite tried to run out. I know Whisper is massively overpriced on his best form but I am not a fan of backing horses in decline.
I wonder if Vinndication is too short here and priced up on reputation. He could be making the market for something else. Mister Mallarky looks a solid each way choice. Wonder if there might be a bit of value in the double figure prices as well.
This should be a good race to watch! I hope Delta Work wins. I think he ought to have won at Cheltenham and he showed he was the real deal at Punchestown. Still not totally convinced by Clan des Obeaux’s overall profile.
I am in a bit of a dilemma about Slate House. I backed him on Saturday because I read somewhere that the Tizzards thought he was over his problems and had slipped to a good mark. Remember, he was good enough to beat Summerville Boy in a novice hurdle and he went on to beat Kalashnikov in the Supreme.
I will probably back him again but I just worry that Slate House might be a horse who always has niggling problems. Maybe catching him fresh was the best time to get him? He also seemed to like a small field and deep ground. I wonder how he will cope with the hurly burly of a big field handicap? If he takes to it he clearly has a big chance.
I was at Aintree on Sunday and was a little bit disappointed by Kalashnikov. To be fair, the race was a bit of a farce but he should be beating the likes of Forest Bihan. He also made a serious error at the second fence. I am not convinced by him.
A Plus Tard would be very interesting if he travels over. I could see him outclassing everything.
Definitly Red for me. The stable is flying and he has run some of his best races at Wetherby. It is also a race Ellison knows he can win and he must realise the horse is very unlikely to ever win a Gold Cup. He is going to be primed and ready whereas some of the others will probably be happy to just see a good run.
Jeremy Irons is a great choice to portray Sir Henry. I am just a bit sceptical about the film being any good. I will happily be proven wrong but how can any dramatic reconstruction truly capture the brilliance of Frankel’s best performances?
