I recall last year when Cirrus won, Soumillon dismounted very quickly as the horse was in pain a furlong or more out. He was out for a little while after that, nothing serious, but no reason for the trainer to come back, especially as he won anyway.
I do agree about the Coronation Cup being underwhelming with only 4 runners, although great for Hannon and especially Pat Dobbs. With Royal Ascot well under 2 weeks away, it doesn’t surprise.
Although the Coronation Cup is a group 1, I think most owner/trainers would prefer to go to the Hardwicke stakes for the Ascot occasion and the easier to handle trackThe class 2 handicaps had a few filler types in there who aren’t up to scratch, but that’s general fare for most of these big field handicaps.
The more I look at this race, the more its doing my nut in.
I’m in the camp of ‘hope GH stays, but cant back him at the price’ so I have to decide what small each way bet has the best chance.
I cant be confident of Hobbs and Elm Park reversing the Dante form, Success Days and Hans Holbein want softer ground and Kilimanjaro/Storm The Stars looked workmanlike but not classy enough. (Haggas saying STS is still a baby, too soon for Derby win)
Moheet is interesting, but from reading quotes from his connections they don’t sound confident he will be good enough.
The two rank outsiders Carbon Dating and Rogue Runner are making up the numbers here which leaves Epicuris and Giovanni Canaletto.I wonder if Epicuris will be able to switch off as he has made all in most of his races and clearly lacks temperament (refused to enter stalls last time)
This leaves Giovanni Canaletto who is still a pretty good each way price and although he didn’t win his prep race, there were positives with him running on well and it would have done him the world of good. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him win this and this be the only group 1 race he ever wins.
I just don’t know if the relatively unknown jockey and small stable have it in them to win this.
Whatever I choose, it will be pocket change and I might just sit back and enjoy a big race for once.June 5, 2015 at 21:33 in reply to: Select 3 Horses to win on Saturday 6th June 2015 – Week 8 #1094429whoops,

Epsom 515 – Oasis Fantasy
Epsom 550 – Secretintheparknice write up there RR. I think the ground will be plenty fast enough come race time.
I am so undecided on the Derby that I might just go for STS at very lively odds.
I think you just made my mind up, let me just have one more glance at that form.I’d agree Chivers, that Aiden would of known this one was better at the distance but wouldn’t the boys have backed her down from 50’s?
Maybe the bookies were being shrewd too?
If she was backed down to say 16’s then a lot more people would have wanted a slice.
I’m just being sceptical on the matter, It was a really strong finish from an obviously very talented horse and apart from a bit of bustling down the straight and a fancied horse way too keen to have a chance, there were no hard luck stories really. Not like when Was won a few years ago. The Fugue was so unlucky that day.
If you think AOB deliberately lost two classics so he could get a better price in another – you’re crazy Chivers.
Gingertipster, I didn’t mean to say jockey to make her look substandard, that was silly.
I meant to say that she was put in the classics to keep her on her toes at the highest level and to get the engine ready, but I believe he would have said to the jockey to not give her anywhere close to a hard time.
I think he knew that Qualify had a big chance of winning today and he did it the smart way.
It’s shrewd and I have no problem with that whatsoever.……and I am not being sarcastic, the man is a bona fide genius of the sport. A legend.
Well, that was interesting. O’ Brien bred, kept her up his sleeve and I would not be surprised if he told the jockey in previous races to make her look substandard so there wasn’t much attention on her.
Tactical superstar this man.I really like the way Lady Of Dubai won her listed race, okay it wasn’t a strong race, but the cruising speed she showed looked like it would hold up at the highest level for me.
Adam Kirby said that she only needed a flick of the switch and the race was done, no fuss.
Very relaxed style of running which will suit Epsom and no stamina concerns, she just needs to prove that she has class.Adam Kirby for a group 1 classic would be great stuff.
I’m looking at a theory that last years oaks 1-2 (Gosden/Weld) will be this years derby 1-2.
Providing Zawraq does line up of course.
I’m sold on it.The shortening of GC is a good thing for anyone waiting till Friday/Saturday to back one. I say GC to go favourite and push Golden Horn out to a nice tidy each way price. (I’ll even take 7/2 each way)
Pretty please!ps – not saying GC wont win, but I cannot go near him for obvious form reasons.
I’ve just bought a 2 year old horse called Destruction Derby. should I enter him for 2016?
Karaktar very disappointing, I didn’t see the race, but the form obviously didn’t stand up from his previous races. Any horse can look a great traveller against lesser opponents.
Fair play to Muthmir though, I couldn’t back him today, there was something nagging. Although, that should of been the same excuse for Karaktar.Damn these group 1’s that have to be punted on!
Yeah I’m on him, he has travelled so well in his races and has a good kick. The only downfall would be the wide draw, but the danger New Bay is also out wide, so that should help.
Alain de Royer-Dupre has started 2015 really well with group 1 winners in particular.
Dolniya at Meydan, Ervedya in the French 1000 and hopefully this one can make his mark.
3/1 is an enticing price, any shorter and I would have left the race alone.May 30, 2015 at 19:10 in reply to: Richard Hughes RP article – says what needs to be said for the sake of the sport #1087466Yes, I note that he is expressing his opinion on such events like the Brigadier Gerard stakes being moved to a Saturday. That shouldn’t happen as it is fantastic having meetings like that during the week.
I guess there is a lot of saturation of meetings on a Saturday as it is, but you wont hear many of the minor jockeys complaining as they try to make their way to the top.
The midweek races should stay as they are, but it must be the racecourses that are unhappy with the lack of spectators for those meets. If they think they can guarantee more people and more money then they will no doubt think of business first.- AuthorPosts
