I watched the Arkle finish again at the weekend. Two horses fell at the fence while in contention and even MWDS, which is the best jumper around at the moment, made a mistake and nodded on landing.

Alistair Down is a waste of space. Why would the mainline presenter of C4 want to upset the management of Cheltenham and risk upsetting future contract negotiations?. Enough said.

Like Alan, I’ve known him for sometime. If I see him tomorrow I will raise this issue.

Well done AP. Let’s hope Cheltenham listen. Many years ago when the third from home witnessed several casualties, Cheltenham acted and worked with the RSPCA to create a stretch of flat ground after the fence before resuming the down hill section.

Alan’s idea is very well thought out. I hope some of the proposals can be incorporated into a sensible solution.

another few yards and MF would have looked very stupid. The handicapper will put her up loads anyway so can’t understand his behaviour.

[ AP said "I don’t ever bet in bumpers and wouldn’t ever recommend that anybody else should do so.]

I agree. I only bet on the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham when there is some form to go on…and the market often tells the story.
But even then I don’t get too involved.

I am no fan of the man, but the shaking hands, which have been obvious for over a year, are sadly are very worrying sign. I wouldn’t wish that on any one.

Racing UK free with Virgin Media if you have XL TV package.
Why pay £10 to Sky when you get it free with Virgin.

Scu’s ride on Bonanza Boy stands out. He was so far behind that to this day I can’t believe he won.

Ruby on Inca Trail was pure genius.
Ruby is the business — the list of his triumphis is endless. Whatever he’s achieved on Kauto Star, Azertyuiop etc, nothing can compare with kidding home Inca Trail. The horse was a monkey full stop.

As for Ap on Pridwell he was a tad to brutal for me.

Just to confirm six setanta channels on offer : Racing UK, Golf, Setanta Sport 1 and 2, plus Celtic and Rangers TV.

Great news for VM customers. This will make VM worth getting if you don’t have it.

    Virgin Media has just announced:
From July 26, new and existing customers who take Virgin Media’s XL basic TV package will get six Setanta sports channels for free. Apparently this including the racing channels.

Brilliant news for us with Virgin media.

Alan, perhaps you remember when the Guardian diary used a dog’s paw to select horses and beat Tommo’s tips in a monthly competition.

Alan, you are too modest about your books. They are well worth a read.

Jamie Reid’s "A Licence to…" is both entertaining and well-written.

Sean Magee’s "To win Just Once" is an interesting insight into the life of a journeyman jockey — all the more poignant because the original subject of the book Richard Davis died after a fall at Southwell.

Stan Hey’s "An Arm and Four Legs" is a brilliant demolition of the Martin Pipe stable. It’s fascinating, full of great observations and very well-written.

As someone who is sitting on 50-1 for barack to be president I have to disagree.  The shrewdies on political betting would laugh their heads off at yr post.  <br>As for the republicans, watch fred thompson.

It will be heavy on Tuesday so MDS has to run.  If he turns up, he will trot up.
