I think the prize fund of 34,000€ might have had something to do with it!
And early season 5f 2-y-o races in France are probably even less competitive than ours.
Generally true but this was a class B conditions race at Longchamp with four of the six runners previous winners. Also just comparing the times with the male equivalent half an hour earlier she was a whopping three seconds faster and showed serious acceleration in the middle of the race under a hand ride. Hard to truly guage but I could see her being largely underestimated if she showed up at Ascot.
The Paul Cole trained Percolator after watching him rout his opponents over a straight 5f, in a very quick time, at Longchamp today.
Couldn’t see anything in today’s Post – do we know the reason behind crossing the channel to find a winning opportunity?
17000 reasons as in Euros for the winner. Filly won very impressively in a Lingfield maiden end of March. I wrote him originally is of course a her.

If Henry goes off at longer odds than New Approach at the Curragh and the ground is nice and fast I know which one I’ll be playing.
To all those people who are casually stating lay lay lay. At what prices and to what risk would you want to lay him though? You’d be loony to even think about that if you had to lay say anything bigger than 8/1. Even at 4/1 I’d like to see how many people on here would be willing to lay him for serious cash. It’s easy to shout lay lay lay but when it comes time to pull the trigger I doubt there are more than two or three people on here who would go in with the potential of losing a thousand or more. If you’re laying a tenner to lose sixty, then you’re simply wasting space.
I’d also like to point out that it was not too long ago when a US turf horse by the name of Hard Buck ran second in a grp1 turf in Dubai and shock of all shocks in the King George. He was nothing special and if the best middle distance horse in the world by the proverbial mile (LGR’s quote which I wholeheartedly endorse) decides to come over and give it a try I will be more than happy taking my chances with all you bold layers out there.
May 5, 2008 at 15:49 in reply to: How Long Before All Bookmaker’s Representatives Are Women? #161749Have to admit I find some of your posts to be quite entertaining, in a perverse sort of way. Now if you could just clue me in as to who Hoodwink, Slimey and Baldy are and I might be even more amused. Thanks
Absolutely and luck is a constant factor for and against, but in this case it was reassuring to see "Trick" Hughes up as he will come up short a fair amount of times.
Imo Natagora will get beat if there is a better horse in the race not for reasons put forth on this thread about stamina etc etc. Money talks bullshite walks. No need for bullshite from me as my money says she’ll win.
Where is the expensive champagne popping cork icon. A stunning day, a stunning May.
.
Wouldn’t be the first time.A "definite GRoup 3 filly"?!? She has just absolutely hacked up in a Group 3 and looked in a totally different league to her rivals.
3-1 sounds short, but a quick look at the oppostion will tell you why we have gone that price. Natagora is undoubtedy classy but has a trip doubt – but Muthabara, Spacious and Cape Amber all have loads to prove on what they have actualy shown us on on the racecourse.
Bottom line – It isn’t a good 1000 guineas and for me, Infallible looks way more talented than a lot of previous winners of the race. Was anyone ever that impressed by Wince, Lahan, Ameerat, Speciosa etc etc etc?
Imo a group 3 in name only which subsequent events might bare out. Concerning the "they all have loads to prove" part, so did Infallible before today. Let’s wait until the three others you mentioned show up in the next few days, who knows maybe the dark side will be throwing us another 3/1 shot by weeks end. Agree that it does not look anything like a vintage Guineas and the fact that Infallible is by Pivotal means she definitely liked today”s ground which Gosden stated after the race and even went so far to say that he would not like to see firm ground on the day, which all but ensures that the water taps will be sprinkling overtime if there is any chance of that. Regardless I would not bet her at 3/1 with dark side money.

Just for the record I was holding a chunky win only ap on Dutch Art and was a bit annoyed with myself afterwards.
Adagio calling. If I remember correctly that one fooled a few noted posters on here, last year after his Craven run. Pascal Bary and my substantial antepost ticket will sleep comfortably tonight. Who knows, if this one sucks in enough folks I might just wade back in on the day.
Flash your ignorant arrogant attitude beggar’s belief. Could not take it sitting silently anymore.
Here a few pearls from your recent posts:
Dirt horses, dirt race. That isn’t proper racing in my book. The turf is what I call proper racing.
Hmm. So what you are you saying is that all the American greats‘ aren’t proper race horses. So what would you call the likes of Secretariat, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Spectaclar Bid, Forego, John Henry or further back to my father’s days Citation, Native Dancer, Round Table who in a four year career ran an astonishing 66 times and won 43 of those, only to become one of the outstanding sires of his time, or even further back in time to Man O War he of 21 of 20 wins and beaten a length in the other, becoming racing’s first equine superstar of the 21st century. Finally what does that make arguably the greatest stallion of the last century Northern Dancer. DUH!!
What I despise is the Godolphin organisation and their constant buying up of top two year olds in an attempt to ensure their own success. Buying unknown youngsters like Denman, Master Minded is one thing but buying top class two year olds in an attempt to buy success I hate with a passion.
Just an example of a number of posts relating to Sheikh Mohammed and Godolphin. This being a particular mean spirited one with despise and hate used in conjunction with how Godolphin go about there business. Not for the first time I might add have you been this vitriolic when it comes to the Sheikh Mo. I’ll leave people to make their own judgements on that particular rant, mine are clearly destilled. I’ll just say that a guy like Sheikh Mohammed is infinitely more desirable for the sport then say the Ballydoyle supremos (excluding O’Brien, as I would not want the Ballydoyle Gestapo on my case) who are in it almost exclusively for the money. To them it is what it is a business plain and simple. Ask Jim Bolger or a multitude of other owners that have sold to the Sheikh, whether he is bad for the sport. Sheikh Mo has a profound love for the thoroughbred and is in the enviable position where money is no object and his generosity at times knows no bounds. A man of his wealth and stature does not need to attempt to buy success. He is successful simply by his overall accomplishments alone, which far transcend the rather insignificant world of horse racing.
The Dubai World Cup isn’t a world cup though is it its just a name given to it its just basically a Godolphin initiated meeting that the odd decent horse will attend. It will never be a world cup the nearest flat racing has to a world cup is the Breeders Cup
Let’s examine that one for a moment or two. There are 6 races with 86 runners. Of those 11 are Godolphin runners. Furthermore there are 14 US, 4 Hong Kong, 16 Europeans from the UK, France Germany ,Ireland and Denmark, add to that a powerful South African contingent, some formidable high class runners from Japan, Australia and New Zealand, a few South American runners and the oddity from India I believe, hope I did not forget anybody, and you have what could be quite rightly described as a World Cup. 13% of the runners are from Godolphin the rest from all other major and lesser racing jurisditions. Contrast that percentage with the percentage of American runners at the BC and you might see the difference .The BC is no more a World Cup than is Royal Ascot or the Arc weekend. So your take on this being a Godolphin benefit is about as far off the mark as can be. Hong Kong in Dec. would come closest when comparing international star appeal but does not match up either. I challenge anybody on here to show me a more international day of quality racing.
I could go on and on but the more discerning reader will get the picture
For someone who purports to have been around this wonderful sport of ours for 30 years or so, the sheer volume of your posts repeatedly bore with blandness at best and startle with mal ignorance at worst. Engaging your brain well in advance of actually posting something on here might work to your advantage in the future. I wont hold my breath on that one though.
Aidan wrote, Truth is Hong Kong/Dubai etc has never been that high on Coolmore/Ballydoyles priorties I guess.
Surely the most logical reason for that is that the breeding arm Coolmore takes precedence over the racing arm Ballydoyle when viewed commercially. The US is still the pre-eminent breeding sales market globally and winning a BC race looks a lot more attractive on a stallion’s cv than winning in Hong Kong or Dubai imo.
One of the reasons put forward as to why the BC might be losing its luster for the Europeans is the very high cost of travel and associated expenses, and maybe the commitee needs to address that. As far as Magnier et al. are concerned this will never be an issue and I would be most surprised if they did not continue to take aim at these races. As much as I like Hong Kong in December and Dubai in March, the BC still sets the standard for international meets with the best horses running there. I would say that Royal Ascot and the Arc weekend are clearly the two best turf only events.Who knows with a polytrack like surface to make its debut in 08 there could be a lot more Euros going for non turf races next year.
Apparently O’Brien made the decision to have him put down within seconds after arriving at the scene. What a gutwrencher that must have been. R.I.P George W. The last thing I’d want to be is a fly on the wall at Coolmore tonight.
Mikkymo,
the BC bylaws do not allow for the grass races being switched to dirt. If the turf became truly unraceable then those races would simply be cancelled.
