There’s footage online of some crank screaming at fellow passengers on the Tube today for wearing their masks; dribbling on (loudly) that the whole thing’s a conspiracy.
He uses exactly the same terminology as a few contributors to this thread.

And btw you gov is owned by Nadeem Zahawi. Current gov minister and the front man for all things Borris
This is complete nonsense. Zahawi was one of the founders of YouGov but left 12 years ago. It is a publicly-owned company anyway. Unfortunately, the first Omicron death has been recorded today.
And I see that insane canard that we are ‘turning into Nazi Germany’ based on some modest restrictions has reappeared..

I agree with a lot of that post CAS. As a heavy user of the NHS (sorry, “OUR” NHS, of course
), I find the fawning adulation over the service childish in the extreme and frankly a bit mad. To me, clapping for the NHS makes no more sense than clapping for the DVLA. Furthermore, British people seem to believe that there are only two options – the NHS or the American system. This is obviously nonsense as our European friends show. However, presuming the government are crying wolf regarding it being overwhelmed this winter is not necessarily correct. The NHS just about coped last year (at the expense of millions of delayed procedures), but Omicron is vastly more transmissable than the Alpha variant that caused that wave and it’s possible that things could get very bad, very quickly.
I think a few added safety measures plus pushing out boosters is a proportionate and sensible move as things stand. It needs to be permanently reviewed. Hopefully, Omicron will be mild and shortlived, but let’s see what we’re dealing with first.

From that Racing Post link, it states 568 cases in the country so far. That’s 568 out of a population of 70 million.
AP posted that on the 8th. By yesterday (the 12th) that had risen to 3137 cases, a greater than fivefold increase in FOUR days. Exponentiality is not our friend here.

My pet hate is Francesca (and Oli Bell and Jason Weaver to a lesser extent) answering any question with “He sure does”.
Isn’t it Alex Hammond who just parrots back the last sentence said to her?
“He should stay this extra couple of furlongs Alex”
“He certainly should stay this extra couple of furlongs Luke”Quality!

Clive is succinct and correct (on this occasion).

Blairgowrie runs today for Nick Henderson. The original one was a promising winning hurdler/chaser for Charlie Mann & Howard Johnson in the mid-2000s until he was sadly killed at Market Rasen in 2006.
Sixty Dollars More is also out, which is a terrible plagiarism of Fred Winter’s tremendous 1982 Mackeson winner Fifty Dollars More (plus inflation).

In other Polly Gundry news, it appears she’s been sent Santini (remember him?) from Nick Henderson. Entered under top-weight for the Betfair Handicap at Cheltenham on Friday.

Tremendous race, tremendous result. Seventh course win for Big River in a thrilling finish. And Dawson City running-on late for fourth! (note: clearly needs five miles plus nowadays).
Nine minutes and six seconds of nirvana.

Well there were four non racing-affiliated race sponsors at Hatdock today and no less than seven at Wincanton tomorrow!

My post should be accepted in the spirit that it is provably 100% scientifically accurate and only cranks or the deeply stupid could possibly think otherwise.

“Vaccination does not stop the spread nor does it stop you from catching it”
Yes it does. And yes it does.

Our sympathies will always lie with Mr Tylicki, he is living every jockey’s worst nightmare with great stoicism.
However, this case must surely be struck out. The ramifications of any found guilt on Gibbons’ part would be unthinkable for all sports.

One can have nothing but admiration for David Walsh’s dogged pursuit of the wretched cheat Lance Armstrong, but his Sunday Times output (I get the paper every week) is now almost exclusively concerned with alleged dubious goings on in various sports.
Again, there’s nothing wrong with that as such, but he is coming across as being slightly obsessive and seeing a ghost in every room. He has three features in this week’s paper: a hit-piece on former England captain Michael Vaughan, a vague column that the Frost/Dunne case will be good for racing long-term and then a double-page spread on this affair with Dan Skelton and some disgruntled owners.
To me, the latter seems to be an absolute non-story, just a bit of ‘he-said, they-said’ finger-pointing. I’m struggling to see the public interest really…

I disagree CAS. It was a two-minute delay to confirm the official abandonment. I thought Machin was being nigh-on hysterical about how supposedly dreadful this all was. Dunno how he gets through the day if he gets so wound up about such trivia!

People always say they ‘turn the volume off’ when their disliked commentators are in action. They say it in every sport but I reckon it’s nonsense.
Have you tried watching sport with no crowd or ambient noise? It’s dreadful. Frankly, the World Cup Final could have a commentary team of Paul Merson, Gerry Hannon, Des Scahill and Ted Lowe and I’d still have the volume up.

“Stop giving racing more money” is an interesting new angle.
