Presumably Diana Hobbs agrees with Dunne’s opinion of Frost’s riding?
December 9, 2021 at 14:54 #1571484I just hope that we don’t get experienced jocks afraid to have a word to the wise with younger riders when they are being a bit risky in future. Yes the culture needs to change but there is still very much a need for experienced riders to be able to provide guidance and even a good telling off if the stewards won’t. I’m of the opinion Dunne started off this way with Frost but it does appear to have spiralled out of control into something pretty nasty and personal from there which he is justifiably being charged for.

Disagree 100%.
It’s an outdated practice, riven with conflict of interest.
Senior or younger they are all competing with each other.
Jockeys should be judged by professional stewards, not their peers.

This is why I don’t think Bryony Frost has done herself any favours short-term. She will always be known within the weighing room as the jockey who broke ranks. I expect no thaw in the already icy atmosphere to be found therein.
What she has achieved is to make it harder for any other potential or actual bullies to behave with other jockeys as Robbie Dunne has done with her. There are 450 licenced jockeys in this country and by the law of averages there will be those amongst them who are of like mind with him.
December 9, 2021 at 15:39 #1571496Effectively a 15-month ban for Dunne.

To be clear experienced jockeys make dangerous mistakes as well, the stewarding is poor full stop and I’m sure more will emerge on that front from the other case currently going on.
December 9, 2021 at 16:08 #1571502Well, let’s hope it puts stewarding generally under pressure to become more professional.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 9, 2021 at 16:27 #1571507As with much whistleblowing, the actions of the person doing it are likely to help the greater good, but leave their own personal situation much more uncertain.
Quite what the future implications are for Frost remain to be seen. There are plenty in the industry who will bear a permanent grudge, so she is going to have to endure a lot of hostility. It might also make a move into a media career, which might have seemed a sensible future step, somewhat harder.
She’s weathered the storm so far though, and held her nerve despite huge pressure. Knowing the public are largely on her side must be a huge boost. I reckon she’ll be OK.
December 9, 2021 at 16:41 #1571509A move to Ireland was being mooted. Probably riding for mullins was a nod to that. Very true that whistle-blowers suffer terribly which makes frosts stand even more admirable. I’m sure she’s no angel but shouldn’t have had to put up with what she did. Now for the bickering to ramp up in racing circles.
December 9, 2021 at 16:43 #1571510I think she’ll be fine Marlingford. She’s one the best in the business and trainers and owners will hopefully recognise that fact.
December 9, 2021 at 17:14 #1571512“A move to Ireland was being mooted.”
I do not know about her rumoured personal circumstances but I cannot see how a move to Ireland is in her interests as a jockey. What would she be doing? Riding Mullins third or fourth strings? Who else would use her? And I doubt the Irish jockeys would be happy with her coming in and taking rides they see as their own.
December 9, 2021 at 17:39 #1571514Gigginstown chop and change jockeys on a whim. Some competition for Rachel. Could be a good move.
December 9, 2021 at 18:25 #1571516Judging by the way she has continued to ride winners in the midst of all this going on I think she can compartmentalise well enough (top professionals have the ability to do that under very different circumstances although she shouldn’t have had to employ that particular skill for this reason) but I do strongly feel that her saving grace has been when she is out riding and has to focus solely on that.
To me I think there is some room for jockeys to have civil adult conversations with each other (without resorting to abusive/threatening language) if there has been an incident in a race as a jockey would have a unique up close perspective in these split second moments that a steward no matter how good reply and camera angles are could potential be obscured from seeing or even not see at all.
That being said a jockey (no matter the gender) must always feel confident that if an issue is escalating beyond civil dialogue or friendly banter that there is a safe reporting method that will not be viewed as breaking any perceived secret internal code of practice. Maybe other jockeys need to realise that if they were witness to an incident that they need to be a bit more observant as to any interactions between the parties involved that potentially could escalate and not naturally assume that because one of the parties isn’t showing any outward emotion that that doesn’t automatically mean that they are not upset or fearful over what has been said to them.
I very much doubt Bryony would relocated to Ireland although making contacts and picking up outside rides for the likes of Willie Mullins when he is mobbed handed could pay dividends later down the line…maybe with a Cheltenham Festival ride or two. Never hurts to network and if she keeps riding big winners that will keep her in the shop window as a potential jockey to go to when spares are available.
December 9, 2021 at 18:34 #1571517Bryony has just bought her first house so I doubt she will up sticks and move.
And neither should she.
She should be walking into the weighing room every day with her head held high, knowing that she has done nothing wrong.
December 9, 2021 at 18:38 #1571518The sad truth about Frost v Dunne is that no one wins. Good people have had their names dragged into events that were nothing to do with them, and some have been slurred for no reason. The lesson to everyone is be decent. Just be decent.

Again Patriot,
As I said earlier, MY QUOTE: “If Frost didn’t “go public” herself then it is pretty obvious someone went public who was acting or THOUGHT he / she was acting on Bryony’s BEHALF. Whether Bryony knew about it or NOT”. END OF MY QUOTE..…So I agree with you, it may well have been YOUR QUOTE: “someone within the BHA who was either frustrated with the length of time the case was taking or was worried that the BHA was trying to kill the story gave the report to David Walsh”. END OF YOUR QUOTE.
Value Is EverythingDecember 9, 2021 at 18:40 #1571520Clive is succinct and correct (on this occasion).
