My pet hate is Francesca (and Oli Bell and Jason Weaver to a lesser extent) answering any question with “He sure does”.
Isn’t it Alex Hammond who just parrots back the last sentence said to her?
“He should stay this extra couple of furlongs Alex”
“He certainly should stay this extra couple of furlongs Luke”Quality!

December 12, 2021 at 10:27 #1572043‘Jumping like a stag’ doesn’t bother me too much Illavim, but what about ‘jumping from fence to fence’? Unless they fall, don’t all chasers do that?
December 12, 2021 at 11:12 #1572046True MoodyMan!
December 12, 2021 at 11:25 #1572049“Hit the line hard” and “The race fell apart” are two phrases which are used all the time now but I never heard them when I started watching racing.
December 12, 2021 at 11:35 #1572051Two good ones there, Cork.
Another unwelcome newcomer is “Going forwards”. I’d be somewhat concerned if my selection went in reverse.
December 12, 2021 at 11:36 #1572052Seemingly every jockey – “in Cheltenham”. No, “at” Cheltenham you utter dopes.

December 12, 2021 at 11:47 #1572057Written Word journos and racing channel presenters live in two different worlds
My humble view is that lydia tries her heart out to help viewers
Long may she continueNick luck is simply different level and am certain breeders cop bods know this as well
Itv is not a racing channel so we can expect a hotch potch. Which to be fair we get in spades
I never watch it as most of the presenters irritate me beyond comfort
Lets appreciate the good guys. Lydia is top of that pile
December 12, 2021 at 11:50 #1572061The mute button for me is Hoiles. Hunt and Ennis
If I see ollie Bell its game over
December 12, 2021 at 11:55 #1572065Lydia is top drawer.

December 12, 2021 at 12:49 #1572079The older I’ve become the more irritable I get listening to constant waffle, particularly when it’s ‘ filler’ chatter and I haven’t had RUK for years. Can watch any race I wish to live from other sources and can watch whole race video form on the Timeform site which is great value at £30 a month when you consider that the old Black Books cost £15 a week forty years ago!
I put up with ITV because I like to observe how things are presented to the casual non racing fan viewer. At the moment, in the whole of racing broadcasting, the only two who don’t get me irked are Nick Luck and Ruby,- though I’m still yearn for the teams that presented the sport in the 70’s and 80’s, with the exception of Derek Thompson and Lesley Graham !

This seems to be an Irish-ism. See also “The last day” which has now replaced “last time out” although to be honest I don’t mind either of those, so I don’t.
December 13, 2021 at 21:35 #1572352“Deep on the track” is a new phrase I struggle to understand. Why are they “deep” when they are running wide?
December 14, 2021 at 13:01 #1572423Not sure if it counts, but Ed Chamberlin keep telling me things are poignant or emotional drives me nuts.
December 14, 2021 at 13:22 #1572427Mute is a massive winner – if I haven’t checked the colours I might unmute it for ten seconds so I get a steer, but if it’s Hunt it’s pointless as he’d take a minute to tell you who was leading in a match.
I can’t mute the sound at the races but the commentators have been excellent so far this season where I have been.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 28, 2021 at 20:22 #1575237Reviving the irritating phrases: “dances in front of the fence” is another one that has crept in recently. Mullins was the latest to use it today when he spoke about Galopin De Champs.
December 28, 2021 at 20:27 #1575240Don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but “fencing” is something you either do when cordoning off your land or if having a barney with blades – long ones.
Horse don’t have “fencing debuts” – or “fencing” anythings.
They couldn’t hold a weapon with their hooves.

It’s not actually what they do. In all the chases I’ve ever seen the horses gallop towards a fence, jump over it, then gallop towards the next one.
