I don’t mate which is for the better! Happy to hear you’ve had a blinder though, put the winnings into next years ante post haul!
Cheers pal, if it makes you feel any better I bet on Gaelic Warrior twice, once when he lost that original Cheltenham handicap hurdle and the second time I had an ante-post bet on him 2024 Stayers hurdle! That’s racing isnt it! Chuffed for Nathan and the winners though!
Cheers HDLG and green, wonderful thankyou, married to an amazing woman now and living in London, we’ve actually just bought a holiday home on Lake Como! And currently doing training to become a Psychotherapist! How are things on your end?
Don’t watch racing any more but just saw the result and had to find my old account to log in and say massive congratulations Nathan, I thought of you when I saw your boy had won!
Truly hope you and everyone else on this forum is doing well, you’re an amazing bunch of people, thankyou for all the memories!
Surrey is lovely as well! Lived there for many years. I don’t blame you, much easier walking about West London away from the busy crowds isn’t it.
Seemed to be like Edwardstone got tired and thus made the mistake he did. I think his last run took a bit out of him, was probably 100% fresh for that romp and was just a bit over today. I’d imagine it’s harder to have a racehorse like Edwardstone in peak fitness for two consecutive runs at the old age of 10, especially given both races weren’t exactly on good ground.
Can’t really blame anyone, they gave the horse what they deemed to be the best chance of winning, will never hold that against connections even if it costs my pocket.
Pleased you like it too Glad! I’m yet to see the flower garden area in full blossom so I can’t wait to check out that part of the park once the flowers are out! Life doesn’t get much better than taking a nice sunny stroll through those areas if you ask me. I’d never heard of the Windsor Castle pub but having just googled it it looks beautiful, old school vibe while still looking clean and fresh! Just looked at the menu too and it looks very appetising, will be tempted to head there for the Sunday roast.
Are you local to the area Glad?
Just remembered I uploaded a video earlier that I took the last time I was in Holland Park, ironically it was on one of the few recent sunny days! It’s usually much quieter and secluded than Hyde Park, far less touristy
“I share your pain, Ben. The horse was clearly tired. Maybe Cannon was still doing his best to win when he probably should have just made sure he got over the last two and finished third. It would have suited us anyway!”
It was very fitting, my first ever ante-post bet, Boston Bob, fell on the home straight and now what may well have been my last ante-post bet has fallen there too. Kind of a nice way to close the chapter to be honest!
oh ffs couldn’t even stay on its feet for the top 3 after the fav fell, ridiculous
Come on Edwardstone, I’ll be more than happy if he comes 2nd or 3rd, should be a procession for the fav.
lol why even bother interviewing the jockey and asking those questions after that, sums up why this sport is almost impossible unless you’re an insider. Glad I’m not betting on the horses these days!
Thankyou for the lovely message Sam!
It’s funny you ask whether I’m still wining and dining her because it’s actually the opposite! Despite being 32 I’m in the second year of a degree and am thus the most skint I’ve been in my adult life! I’m incredibly fortunate that she’s such an understanding woman and honestly the most intelligent person I’ve ever met! She’s generous enough to pay for our dinners/holidays as she studied once upon a time and knows the struggles of being a student, I’ve assured her I will make it up to her when I’m back to working full time, though I doubt I’ll ever earn what she makes being an oral surgeon in the private sector specialising in cancer rehabilitation! I’ve honestly never been happier, she’s super smart, funny and more importantly nice and understanding. She also loves going for a good walk which is a treat in my eyes! We actually went to Cornwall over New Years and spent the entire time dangerously scrambling around places like Boscastle and Bude in 40mph winds, a tad dangerous? yes, fun? definitely. We visited Bruges in November too and spent the entire time stuffing our faces with mussels and chocolates, what an absolutely stunning city that is, would love to go back and couldn’t recommend the place enough for a long weekend! Felt like we were living in a fairy tale.
Your mother in law sounds like an absolute blast, swimming in the harbour is something I doubt I’d be willing to do, especially this time of year despite the jets of “warmish” water! The two of you are certainly braver than I! Very belated happy birthday to both her and your daughter, I can imagine the time has flown by. I too am very much looking forward to seeing the flowers start to blossom, I plan on visiting Kew Gardens some time soon! But have also discovered a very pretty garden in Holland Park, it’s between my girlfriends flat and one of her workplaces so I love walking through there on my way to meeting her and looking at the peacocks, the pond, the little waterfall and the gardens themselves. When the sun is shining it’s a wonderful place to be!
Really glad to hear you’re doing well, I hope your daughter had a great birthday!
Oh Nathan that sounds like a tremendous day, well if the place you park at is comparatively cheap and close to where you’ll be having a Thai (though not the fun sort) then it makes sense to park where you usually do! Glad to hear you’re still knocking about with Blind Dave!
And Ian those are my thoughts too, despite it being milder than usual this winter it’s felt as though there has been a constant breeze which has made it feel about 5 degrees colder than it is anyway! It’s a first world problem when you look at the state of Gaza right now so I shouldn’t complain too much, but like you said there’s only going to be more of this going forward.
Cheers HDLG!
Oh Nathan that is a corker!! I’m assuming you’ve got an email confirming the ticket purchase? Are you going to head there regardless and explain your situation? Seeing as you’re driving I’d advise parking at the far end of the course on a back road and save yourself the £20 (or whatever it is now) extortion fee!
Cheers Glad, I too can get behind a dreary winter if it means a beautiful summer as well, just when we aren’t guaranteed that beautiful summer it can get a little soul destroying during these damp days.
I personally prefer cold but clear skies to wet but mild temperatures, at least if it’s cold I can still go out and do things!
Thanks for posting that Ginge, you described it perfectly, fast, fluent and enthusiastic! That was a great watch. The horse motored down the back straight and never took his foot of the gas! I’d agree with you after watching, would be mad to try different tactics given the abilities of Jonbon and El Fabiolo, would be very hard to see Edwardstone catching them if a few lengths behind coming up the Cheltenham himm.
