Is Edwardstone a front runner now? I remembered him being held up in most of his races but having just looked at the RP form I see he front-ran for his recent victory, have connections committed to the change in tactics for the horse then?

I agree CAS, haven’t watched any jumps racing this year but after a quick look through this years results I can’t see past El Fabiolo eiter, he certainly looked a proper horse in the Arkle!

Only 1 bet for the festival for me, one I placed around this time last year – Edwardstone ew 20/1. Will be more than happy with a place as I’d forgotten I’d even put the bet on until checking my accounts the other day!

Definitely Ian, its been one of those summers in which whenever I’ve been confident and had a bigger sized bet – its lost, every time I reduce my stake size to miniscule amounts – they win. Had about 10 winning bets in a row recently but probably only won a car petrol tanks worth of money, which was good, but I lost about 10x that with my prior bets. Think I had a streak of about 30 losing bets in a row and all were singles or doubles at odds of 2/1 or lower! Just one of those absolute nightmare runs lol. Oh well!!! Life could always be a lot worse!! Things are great :)

    1. Odds, I do occasionally say prices, but for the sake of your data collation I’ll opt for my more commonly used term ‘Odds’.

    2. “/”, just seems the done way!

    3. One to Two! Not really sure why people prefer saying the “on” part when saying it in reverse, seems vocabularirly (not a word) inefficient

    4. Racing cliches are tough to listen to lol, so no.

    5. Far too often now, in homage to our Mike.

    6. Yes, never thought about it until now, so a tremendous question to ask the forum, but thinking about it I feel like I use “Mr. …” when I respect someone in racing.

    7. No, because it’s never my fault my bets lose, it’s always the jockey or fixing trainer.

    8. I unknowingly answered this question with my answer to #7. No losing bet is ever Ben’s fault!

    9. I find Matt Chapman entertaining, I take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

    10. No, if I don’t take records of profit/loss then I can never confirm I’ve made a loss.

    11. I probably understand 1 in 10 posts made by Gamble, but that won’t stop me reading them. He’s like modern art – hard to understand but you can’t help but look.

    12. CAS, and anyone else for that matter, who visits an array of courses is doing well in my book. Having also just read that CAS has been to Wolverhampton on a Monday night TWICE this year, I tip my hat, the opposite of a fair-weather supporter if ever there was one. Not too dissimilar to yourself Ian with your P2P outings!

    13. I sadly know far too little about Glad’s eating habits, probably a good thing though, reading about good food makes me both hungry and jealous.

    14. Trip could run the BHA with her eyes closed, so yes.

    15. Yes again, Nathan just has a naturally hilarious and quick-witted brain, a real treasure to the forum!

    16. I would never square up to BigG!

    17. I think GT can live without Timeform as long as he’s isnt thinking about racing. He’s like an addict that can’t say no to the white stuff after he’s had a pint.

    18. We can only hope.

    19. No, the Shergar cup will though.

    20. Bots crashed the exchange laying this one.

Yeah I can’t say I recall that race Ian, some good horses turned up for the meeting this year, no world-breakers but good enough to keep the interest up, didn’t have a bet though, had a nightmare punting this summer so decided to knock it on the head for the flat season, it may be an absolute cop out, but for me the ground and weather we’ve had for the past couple of months has rendered form a lot less meaningful than in previous years. On top of that there has been a lot of tacky ground about, so even some of the soft ground horses have been underperforming on the supposed preferred surface.

Not going related, but Goodwood related, here are some videos I took over this Bank Holiday weekends meeting for anyone interested! I also had a really cool experience today, my boss let me in with her to the middle of the parade ring pre-race, was surreal being amongst all of the trainers/jockeys/owners, very fun indeed being amongst all of the proper horsey people hearing the conversations you always wished you could hear on tv.

Anyway, here are the videos, sadly none from the parade ring though as I wanted to be professional!

“I was at today’s corresponding fixture at Goodwood last year, Ben – very pleasant late afternoon/early evening fixture to be at.”

it really was Ian! It was a lovely mix of families having a jolly day out and horse people, seemed to be very little rowdiness or trouble makers! Actually really enjoyed watching the racing from the spot I was in too, surrounded by the stable staff and assistant trainers/trainers away from the crowds.

And LOL Nathan that photo is great!!!!!

Was stood just past the finishing post for the 5.30 at Goodwood tonight, the favourite, Francophone, got a bit blocked off by the leader/eventual winner and was carried slightly across the track and ended up finishing second. The man next to me shouts “stewards”, we both walked about 30 meters to where the horses exit the track, the “ding dong, stewards enquiry” sounds and I say to him fair play you were right. He tells me the result will be reversed, I say not so sure mate, they never reverse decisions in this country. We then had a good 5 minute chat about the finish of the race and the stewards enquiry. As the favourite walks past us back towards the stables the man next to me shouts to the jockey (Joe Fanning) “go get ’em Joe”, Joe looked at him and gave him a wink. I assumed he’d bet on the horse and told him good luck and that I hoped the stewards reversed the decision for him.

It wasn’t until half an hour later that I realised I’d been talking to Charlie Johnston who trained the favourite!

The result stood, for what it’s worth. Seemed a nice and very easy to talk to chap though did Charlie so he has a new fan in me.

Hope you and the mrs are still well Ginge.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you were right, it could be he’s living it up somewhere quietly and this ‘death’ was all part of his deal with Putin.

Alternatively, it could have been the CIA that took him out, Wagner is causing havoc in Africa right now.

So many possibilities, it’s enlightening to know that it’s now acceptable to question official narratives.

Not sure if it’s the correct thread (probably not), but just seen the Wagner chap has died! I can only assume he struck a deal with Putin while marching to Moscow with his troops and miraculously-naively trusted Vlad.

Well his plane has just crashed, oh dear. Why he didn’t move to some remote island in the middle of nowhere is anyones guess. The whole thing is strangely fascinating.

“He very rarely gets beaten on one that should win”

I agree FF, easy to say he’s on the best horse, but we see the best horses get beaten far too often. Will be cheering on Commanche Falls for you now!

“The 6.45 at leafy Lingfield Park suddenly assumes a hitherto unconsidered importance – hot food for Ben may depend on its outcome!”

LOL, the world will be watching! Word on the street is it may even get pushed onto terrestrial tv given its new-found importance.

Yeah Jim really has shown himself to have balls of steel in recent years, he’s like Jamie Spencer if Spencer was actually any good.
