One of the Yorkshire ones on the Flat – Catterick, probably.
Catterick is also jumps, but we can lose Worcester too.
And I’ve never really seen the point of Newton Abbot, although it was one of local tracks when I was a lad.
We’ll keep all the AW ones, and add Great Leighs to the sandy mix.
December 17, 2006 at 20:23 #33800Flat – Folkestone
NH – Folkestone
AW – Southwell
Of those I’ve visited – Brighton, but it was over ten years ago.

December 17, 2006 at 20:41 #33801What a negative thread! Let’s resurrect Dr Beeching shall we?
Flat – Portman Park
NH – Steepledowns
c) The track nearest to those who wish to get rid of Southwell.;)
Max – who lives in Southwell and would be left with nothing to do on a Tuesday and the odd Saturday.
December 17, 2006 at 20:42 #33802After visiting Ascot for the first time on Friday, I have no hesitation in offering it as the Flat AND jumps track to lob into Room 101 for all perpetuity. Ye verily a racecourse for people who don’t like horse racing.
Full rant to follow on Thatracingblog or in a review on Neigh. Or both.
Never been AW racing in my life, quite deliberately so, but as (a) Wolvo represented my first visit to a racecourse in winter 1983, and (b) I’m very fond of Southwell, that just leaves either of the two southern sand tracks to face the hypothetical chop. Would probably err on the side of Kempton, as that has certainly proved the least pleasant of the two whenever I’ve been at either for jumps action.

December 17, 2006 at 21:08 #33804Ascot, Newmarket and York.
That way, all the top races that these 3 tracks hoover up could be redistributed around the country without anyone whining "what about tradition???"
Plus, without Royal Ascot and the other "festivals", the top races would be better spead throughout the season rather than the existing situation where we get lots of top races, a long desert, more top races.

December 17, 2006 at 21:18 #33805Two jump tracks for me –
Worcester
We’ve had two runners at Worcester – both towed away by a tractor – perhaps just unlucky or simply ground related (!)
You can’t exit the Car Park for love nor money – the place is a complete joke.
Towcester
My local track but no longer enjoy the setup.

Personal grievancies David!
December 17, 2006 at 22:57 #33814Have to agree about Chester, too busy and full of ppl who have no interest whatsoever in the racing.
Most that go there just fancy a p**s
up!!Would dread being at the new Ascot when it’s busy.
Still feel Southwell’s turf course (flat and NH) is well under used.
December 18, 2006 at 00:05 #33815Drone, I’d love to cook the local dish but I’m allergic to fruit:biggrin:
And some of you would get rid of Nottingham? Why?
Level as a freshly pressed CD, lush turf which is kind to the horses, very little bias in races over a mile plus, the paddock ten seconds away from the ring, loads of space to breathe and popular with good horses from Newmarket. Plus relatively easy to predict results. I’m shocked!! ÂÂÂ
What with Doncaster out for another year, I’d be bolloxed if some of you lot were in charge of the fixture list!:cheesy:
