xApril 1, 2008 at 20:53 #155027it seems as though Paul Nicholls now thinks that Denman is the superior horse
Not at all
And i doubt it. Bennyb and paulcs have posted the reasons why
Denman may well be superior over extended 3m on soft left handed – probably cheltenham
Elsewhere?
April 2, 2008 at 08:34 #155071Don’t worry lads and lasses, Kauto Star normally wins when I back him.

If he fails, I’ll just have to accept it and move on – or of course, I could offer up a host of lame excuses.

Love to see you in agreement with MP, totally backs up my point that you were both out of your bins on GC day (altho, am thinking that could be every day for MP the Thommo lover). And just for the record I didn’t back Kauto Star.

I most certainly was not out my bin, young fellow. I am teetotal, I’ll have you know.
Why, the very cheek of it.

April 2, 2008 at 10:20 #155090Kauto faces 4 rivals – Exotic Dancer, Monet’s Garden, Our Vic and Gungadu.
April 2, 2008 at 10:39 #155095I’m amazed Richards is running Monets Garden in this… Basically he’s inferring that he’d rather take on Kauto at a distance he’s been beaten at before rather than take on Master Minded.. I think I would still have gone for the Melling considering that must have been their intended target all along.
Our Vic will finish second in this I think..

What, Kauto not in the first two ?

There can be no excuses if he fails to see off that lot over 3miles 1 furlong -even at Aintree. Let’s hope Kauto wins – for all our sakes.

April 2, 2008 at 10:45 #155101Aragorn has beaten me to the post, practically verbatim (there would have been one difference- I fancy Gungadu for second). Monet’s Garden will have to take on a hot-pot regardless of which race Richards chooses, surely he’s better doing so on the grey’s own terms?
April 2, 2008 at 10:49 #155102You beat me to the punch mate I am absolutely bmaboozzled by his decision………..sure running a horse in a race that he might get the trip in and if he did would be highly unlike to win instead of running against a horse who might not stay the trip in another race is sheer madness?
I suppose there’s a chance that Cheltenham will have finished Kauto for the Season but Exitic Dancer would surely have come on for the run and he’d be lucky to beat him………I think he could finish stone last if he runs him. as it’s possible even PN’s other runner could outstay him.
April 2, 2008 at 10:53 #155104I’ll be firmly in the Kauto corner tomorrow but Nicky Richards probably thinks that KS is more beatable than MM.
April 2, 2008 at 10:53 #155105Monets has been declared for both and the ground will dictate which he runs in.
April 2, 2008 at 10:54 #155106He’s declared for the Melling on Friday too. That would appear the obvious race
April 2, 2008 at 10:54 #155107Bloody ell fist we agree for once!!!
He could well end up finishing last in this rather than second against MM. Plus we don’t know whether MM will stay 2m4f. Well Chief didn’t and he was the last 180 (Or near as dammit) 2m chaser and MG beat him..
Can’t understand it at all…
April 2, 2008 at 13:14 #155154I think most level headed people would say the Exotic Dancer did not have an ideal prep for the GC and missed a lot of work, hence he blew up, but thats just what most level headed people would say…

April 2, 2008 at 17:32 #155212I think what you should be saying is that if he goes through next season unbeaten, manages to actually give lumps of weight away in a handicap and win, and beat Denman in the Gold Cup then, and only then, can you argue he is a better horse than Denman and ran below form in the 2008 Gold Cup.
What if Findlay & Barber let Denman take KS on in the Betfair and/or King George and KS beat him in whichever/both? Could we argue that KS is better than Denman then? Would those races ‘not count’ somehow because they’re not the Gold Cup? Or could we agree that Kauto Star is quicker than Denman but Denman stays further than KS?
After this year’s GC, I don’t think KS will ever beat Denman over 3m2f at Cheltenham on soft ground (and I say that as someone who really hoped KS could win). Those conditions test his stamina to its absolute limit and Denman is a true stayer. What I’d love to see now is a clash at 3m.
April 2, 2008 at 18:20 #155220Cant wait to be on course tomorrow to see Kauto Star and he should win the Bowl easily.
Exotic Dancer has had his chance but is not good enough to beat KS while Monets Garden is much better over 2m4f
Our Vic is a lot better when fresh for example he ran a blinder in the King George to be 2nd but ran flat in the Cotswold Chase in January then after a little rest and putting his hooves up he got a much deserved win in the Ryanair Chase when flying home and this may be a race to soon plus in last years race Exotic Dancer slammed him
Gungadu has improved this season and his wins at Sandown and the RP Chase at Kempton have been very good and he could make the 4th horse if Paul Nicholls runs him in next years Gold Cup.
All in all i think Kauto Star will sign off his season in style and give an exhibiton style of jumping that will wow the crowd with amazement
April 2, 2008 at 18:31 #155225I’ll tell you what you should all be doingis getting on to your bookies right now and asking for the big three.
I just got of the pnone and have been laid
Kauto Star 8/11
Inglis Drever 6/4
that’s over 3/1 the double
The ground is right Inglis Drever has one unknown quantity to beat and if Kauto is as well as PN says it could be the best bet of the season.
Not being the shyest of people I asked for 1/2 Master Mindeed as was accomodated in the treble as well at almost 11/2. with Tidal Bay doesn’t run he’ll be 1/3 but if you don’t ask you dont get.
Plus I got laid over 6/4 Master Minded and Kauto Star
How often do you get a chance to back the 3 of the 4 best horses in the country in perfect racing conditions?
Could all get stuffed but I think if you don’t bet them you could feel very silly by the end of the meeting……or I could just have blown the majority of my Cheltenham winnings.
