Quadrilateral by the great Frankel out of the family of Three Valleys and Hasili (Dansili, Banks Hill etc).

Certainly has the pedigree to be top class.

tbh I am a great fan of Roger Charlton; although may be not for the Guineas as – if I remember right – doesn’t have a good record that early in the season with his 3 year olds… But if able to get her fit in time, Quadrilateral already looks of the sort of quality required to win at least an average Guineas.

I would be surprised if she ran in the Rockfel as Charlton isn’t known for rushing his horses, she has had around a month between her 1st (16 August) and 2nd (20 September) races and the Fillies Mile is on 11 October so time wise it is a better fit but it also wouldn’t be a great surprise to me if she didn’t run again either.

The jockey said they have always liked her and she is a strong filly with a good temperament who should strengthen up a bit next year so that all goes well for her – interestingly as I am writing this I have just seen the interview with Charlton on RTV and he said the Rockfel would come to soon but she is already in the Marcel Boussac but while he would like to get another run into her he wouldn’t be bothered if it didn’t happen.

My only worry is that I am not a huge fan of her trainer…

I was going to say don’t let ginger read that but he already has… :rose:
I think I could train this horse to win the 1000 guineas, Roger on the other hand might not run her

Breathtaking performance by Quadrilateral but wouldn’t be rushing to back her for the Guineas just yet as plenty more talented fillies yet to be unleashed.

Today I saw a very impressive win by Frankel’s filly Queen Daenerys trained by Roger Varian she’s by a Storm Cat mare and going to post her action really caught my eye she had such purpose in every stride as her hooves struck the ground ..a lovely mover and think she could be a contender for the Nell Gwyn next year

Interesting, I would have said 12F would be his ideal trip but maybe with another year on his back he will be a stronger horse and able to drop back to 10F although they might want to get him a pacemaker to ensure any race he does contest at that trip is run at a true end to end gallop.

Jac – Queen Daenerys really toughed it out didn’t she?! Very gutsy and I think she will probably end up running over further than a mile. She is more of a typical Frankel in that she is a galloper without really having a turn of foot. Still she’s bound to improve and is likely to be Group class.

LD – I was also surprised that the Eclipse will be the target for Logician but over the years I have learnt not to doubt Johnny G! You are right – he should be fine if he gets an end to end gallop on a stiff track over 10f. They are probably thinking about his stud value hence trying to get him a 10f Group 1. After that I reckon it will be King George, Arc.

Just watched the replay and you would have to wonder whether Stoute had given him any actual stalls training with that delayed start.

Not sure he was that in love with the ground as he has a bit of a knee action but you couldn’t help but be impressed by that performance especially given the way he ran through the line. Will be interesting to see if they give him another run or put him away for the season now – could be a nice middle distance horse for next year and he does also have a Derby entry.

ANAPURNA the mudlark adds another group 1, Call The Wind and Veracious both came second in their group 1’s :good:

Exciting filly Quadrilateral will run in the fillies mile at Newmarket on the 11th.

Anapurna will not run again after the end of the season, she will be retired to stud, what a shame.

Was surprised they went 14F with her today especially on that soft ground as I didn’t think she wanted that trip – fortunately with nobody that willing to go on Dettori was able to set his own easy gallop so it never turned into and out and out stamina test.

I do though despair at the continued riding tactics in general for Call The Wind who really should have won the Cadran today, he has been dropped out the back in most of his races (usually off a slow pace) and then asked to try and sprint when clearly his strong suit is his stamina – the only difference today was the it was even more overdone than usual with him fronting the front running winner the best part of 10L turning in. He beat the winner in this race last year by almost 2L where his ride was described as: Chased leaders, ridden to lead over 1F out stayed on gamely.

On a different note nice to see that connections have shelved the idea of running her in the Oh So Sharp Stakes for the Fillies Mile https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/1000-guineas-favourite-quadrilateral-supplemented-for-fridays-fillies-mile/402857

To me that looked more like an Oaks filly although she was a lot more green today (first time running in amongst horses rather than on the outside) so I think she will have learned a great deal today.

I liked the attitude as she had every right to jack it in a she was off the birdle from a long way out but once she met that rising ground she was the only one really staying on and I noticed the moment she hit the front her ears pricked so much more to come.

A 1000g on quick ground in May would be a little bit of a concern for me as I am not sure she handled the dip very well, so I could she her ending up being even further back than she was today – she reminds me a bit of Reams of Verse who was flat out in the 1000g but went on to win the Musidora/Oaks in fine style.

Last time out over 7f on good-firm Quadrilateral won by 9 lengths… And that with the overall time being nothing special… ie Early pace, race distance and going all far less of a stamina test than today. Therefore in going that far clear off such fractions takes some doing and must have shown plenty of speed that day when challenging wide. Arguably didn’t learn much from the experience though and didn’t know what to do in amongst horses – until fairly late today. Also this was only her third start where first two races were at the Backhampton trainer’s local course/flat track (still green) and on different ground. Like to see today’s sectionals, but can’t believe Quadrilateral’s lost the exceptional speed she showed at Newbury in the less than three weeks between races.

I backed her for the 1000 after Newbury. imo Quadrilateral will be fast enough. tbh Am more concerned with whether her otherwise excellent trainer will have her ready in time for early May. Doesn’t have the best of records that early in the season.

Her 2nd run at Newbury was on officially good ground plus we don’t really know what she beat in that race (only the last place runner has run since and was beaten 13L in a Class 5 Novice at Kempton yesterday) so a 9L win might not be representative of how much natural speed she has.

It was interesting to read Watson’s comments afterwards: “She’s out of this world. It’s her third run and she’s never gone a gallop like that. Newmarket is not the easiest track to handle but she’s done it well. “I can’t thank her enough for getting me out of trouble there along the rail. It was a great effort. I’m speechless.”

Today’s experience could very well sharpen her up but I think especially on quicker ground a mile maybe her bare minimum now and if they do gear towards a 1000g they may be hoping for good or good to soft ground instead of good to firm.

Totally agree with the worry about Charlton getting her ready in time though as he is very much old school way of thinking i.e. not rushing them and if she is ready then ok but not going to push her to make a 1000g.

A fantastic win. So gutsy to win from where she was, making her run on the inner when it looked like she was going to get boxed in.

I’m with Ginge on this. I think she will be far better on quicker ground. She reminded me a bit of her dad in the Dewhurst. The sticky ground didn’t bring the best out of him that day and I don’t think it brought the best out of her today. I can see what LD is saying – it looked for all the world that she needed every yard of that mile – but I also can’t help remembering how well she travelled and quickened on the faster ground lto at Newbury.

Add to that the fact that she is only really just starting out and the vast majority of Frankel’s do nothing at 2 and improve tonnes at 3. In fact most of his G1 winners either didn’t run as 2-year-olds or otherwise were just maiden winners. Quadrilateral is a big filly who will surely only benefit from a Winter on her back.

It may be that the runner-up will improve for quicker ground as well and she was probably in front early enough. It should be a great re-match next year. I wouldn’t write off Love as well as I think she has a fast-ground action. The 4th and 6th (Cayenne Pepper and Queen Danaerys) could be Oaks fillies ; I think it was a very good race anyway.

Delighted that Frankel has recorded a 10h G1 winner and the 5th of the season. He is now firmly up there with the best and so glad that his success has meant we don’t have to deal with those trolls anymore!

    Roll on next April!!
