It was ‘celebrity’ within racing. In this instance someone who already has plenty of opportunity to voice their opinions through television and other media work.

So, you’re publicly questioning the ability of someone but requesting that that person isn’t allowed to respond?

I think you need to actually read what I have said. There is nothing that questions ability and I have only suggested there is no need to post on here as she has ample opportunity to give her opinions elsewhere. Seems like you are being just a little over defensive when there is no need to be.

Au contraire. My only worry is that this forum once deservedly had a reputation for erudite debate and had many members who were involved in the sport at various levels and brought that expertise to bear in genuinely interesting discussions. The idea that we don’t need such people because they have other platforms is surely detrimental to the wellbeing of the forum. Unfortunately, many forumites seem more and more to be seeking their own platform to ask rhetorical questions(or simply to moan) without welcoming debate in any way. That can’t be good.

May I draw attention to another neat little "promotion" by RUK that is sticking in my craw?
New subscribers to the channel are in with a live chance of getting a free year subscription worth £240. Needless to say, longstanding and loyal customers need not apply!
From their website "Join RacingUK" page:
    "

Racing UK will refund all Sky annual subscriptions (worth £240) taken out from March 1 to 16 – providing Racing UK ambassador Ruby Walsh wins the Seasons Holiday Queen Mother Champion Chase, Ladbrokes World Hurdle and totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup."

RUK, you are doing a damn fine job in discouraging me from renewing my subcription come the end of Aintree.

It’s a marketing tactic, hoofhearted, designed to either encourage a greater number of paying members or, in the (very likely) case of a Walsh treble, increase the channel’s viewing figures in the months after the single most exciting week of National Hunt racing.

Would you refuse to shop at Currys if the £400 television you purchased was available for £200 two months later, a promotion which just happened to coincide with the World Cup?

Well Sam, it would leave a sour taste in my mouth if I was to see a retail store giving away a new television set which I had paid £240 for at an earlier stage.

I believe it is an ill-advised business model for any company to sanction a promotional perk that alienates its existing customer base.

As a member of RUK’s "existing customer base", I’m not alienated.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned but revisted the RUK website and it has been given a complete revamp and most importantly now has a free archive.

No doubt someone will tell me they did this about two months ago!

Think it’s been longer than that!

Strange, if that is true because I only got an email today to say the website had been revamped.

The revamped website has only just been launched but the race archive has been available for quite a while and as stated elsewhere races can now also be accessed through the SL website.

Formerly it was only the day-of-race replays that were free and the Archive (1/1/09 onwards) only available to those who stumped up the score TV+Online subs or the tenner Online-only variant.

However the Archive been free to view since around the turn of the year and now seems to have disappeared completely, being subsumed under an all-encompassing ‘Replays’ banner

Terrific value for no money, though I do wonder what effect increasing amounts of free-to-view footage will have on their subscriber count. One reason I gave up the TV package for the cheaper Online-only one was that all I need is available via PC; and the picture quality is excellent, certainly in comparison with ATR

Come the quieter summer months (NH wise) I’ll probably unsubscribe completely and enjoy Cartmel archived at leisure

The lifesize talking heads of Nick Luck and co booming their bumf in surround-sound on a 28" digital widescreen adds a certain something to the racing experience but I can survive without it

By way of reaction, Racing Post have increased the price of their replays to 50p (for any idiot that hasn’t realised that the replays are available free in many outlets)

    Racing UK Free Archive Dropped?

Apologies if someone has already asked the question but has there been any reasoning behind the decision?
