In my view there is a lot of hysteria around this issue at the moment. This is largely based on it being human nature to be resistant to change…. [snip]
Conversely, it could be largely based on Western Human nature’s
addiction
to change. We could learn, as so often, from Japan.
On a personal note, having been savaged on this Forum for being a BHA lackey more times than I’ve had hot
cassoulet de poulet
, I find it refreshing to be accused of behaving hysterically
towards
that august establishment!
Have you (or Paul) played around with Transactional Analysis? If so, you’ll know that trying to bolster your Critical Parent authority by accusing rebellious peers of hysteria (thus reducing them to Adoptive Child status) always has precisely the opposite effect on their behaviour – much the same as saying "calm down, dear".
It’s an understandable response from the beleaguered BHA to accuse the many thousands of race fans they’ve incensed by their action of "
hysteria
".
Silvoir
and the rest are probably in shock. But I have the feeling that this one will run and run, so accusing opponents of emotional instability is hardly a sensible start to what could be protracted negotiations.
October 11, 2011 at 17:57 #374238Individuals who think that the general public don’t care about how often horses are hit in races are deluding themselves.
I can see the conversations up and down the country now between all these people who have these great concerns…."Hey Barbara have you seen those new whip rules the BHA have enforced, I’ve just watched a race on the tv and the jockey hit his horse 8 times with the whip and has been banned……
"Ooh no Fred, I might just come and watch the next race with you now though, now that they’re doing something about it"….
"Hey Fred, didn’t that jockey there who won that race whip that horse 7 times, I don’t half feel sorry for that poor horse, I wonder what ban he will get…
"He won’t Barbara, that’s within the rules"!
As I said earlier why don’t the BHA have a big drive and give free tickets away and get these people who have such issues to the racecourses and let them see with their own eyes that horse aren’t being hurt!!
October 11, 2011 at 18:27 #374243A surprising view Zamorston that this is not an issue of general interest. My own personal experience is exactly the opposite to your own. My own lunchtimes this week were spent at a law enforcement agency on Monday and at a health authority office today. Now I realise that is not a statistically significant sample size, but on both occaisions the subject was discussed. Why not just see how this pans out without condemning it from the start ?
October 26, 2011 at 11:48 #374257Kingfisher Quote:
"Ringmaster Roy may well be leading the show but the audience aren’t laughing at his Clowns anymore, its getting beyond a joke and when someone like myself hasn’t had a bet for 3 weeks it speaks volumes"!If "it’s getting beyond a joke" and you haven’t "had a bet for 3 weeks" which suposedly "speaks volumes" about these rules. You are implying the new rules have changed the game so much to make betting too difficult.
You then say Quote "I’m currently picking winners Ginge,Fame and Glory,Deacon Blues and Albertas Run etc, are all horses i would normally have bet".
So had you been backing horses, on average you’d have made more money since the new rules came out, than you had in the immediate period leading up to the rules changing. ie Since Royal Ascot and up until these new rules came out you’ve lost a packet.
What i’m saying Ginge is i can still pick winners,i’m just not betting them because i’m not happy with the current rules, nothing more than that!
But on your own admission, you’d have been doing better under the new rules than the old ones. Therefore, as far as betting is concerned how can the new rules be "beyond a joke"? To make out the form has changed so much due to these rules is wrong.
You will have to try a lot harder than that to get one over me Ginge,in fact that was a pretty poor effort by your standards, you’ll go down with the ship for sure!
I’m not trying to "get one over on you" Fisher. Just don’t like people blaming others for their own inadequacies. I’m pointing out that your 3 weeks without a bet does not "speak volumes" about the new rules. It is unfair to blame the BHA and Paul Roy for your lack of confidence in betting.
Value Is EverythingOctober 26, 2011 at 11:56 #374259Mark , sorry to say this , but any remaining credibility you may have had, has washed away now , your unerring stance behind Roy et all , has changed my perception of you entirely
Roy will be gone within 6 months , this(padded cushion whip issue) will be fixed , but you will still be marooned in a ship outside the main body of opinion
Sad really
Ricky
October 26, 2011 at 12:17 #374262Must be doubley sad then Ricky.
I don’t like Paul Roy, but I’ll defend anyone from anyone if I believe they’re being unfairly criticised.
If you take a look at the beggining of this thread I even defended Kingfisher and spoke up for Pinza in another.
Will continue to judge people on what they say about each and every subject individually. Not on reputation. If you don’t like it Ricky, that’s tough.
All the best.
Mark

Ginge, you are carrying on like a fiery Red head,my own inadequacies are there for all to see on ‘Gone Fishing’,my recent form on there has no bearing with these Whip rules as i have been losing consistently for several months,i plan to turn that round but i’m just letting things settle down whilst we get used to whats happening on the race track.I do the majority of my betting in running,it maybe backing,it may be laying but as things stand i’m just not convinced the formbook is the reliable yardstick i have always depended on,we’ll see!
November 3, 2011 at 09:06 #375753i’m just letting things settle down whilst we get used to whats happening on the race track.
I’ve said my piece on the whip debate and like anyone who loves the sport we just have to play the hand we’re dealt with,we all know who the ‘joker’ in the pack is and thankfully he’s not a player that turns up very often.Like any card game the pack will get re-shuffled and over time the Joker ‘Gets lost’!…Having just read about the ’30 recommendations designed to continue enhancing the safety and welfare of The Grand National’I can only conclude that the BHA’s Tim Morris is another ‘Card’ for failing to inform the media and the public that water and oxygen was going to be on hand at the end of last seasons race! Having watched countless Grand Nationals over the years i can categorically say that all the drama that unfolded at the end of last years race was the cause for the Publics concern, not the death of 2 horses,it was like a scene from ‘Casualty’ and over reactions from certain TV presenters did not help.I remember thinking to myself, this does not look good, had we been told prior to the race what would unfold by said TV presenters this whole unsavoury business would not have escalated to the proportions it has imo…Communication lets us down.Again!
November 5, 2011 at 14:36 #376175SIT UP AND TAKE HEED BHA!
Thats what REAL racing fans want to see,THE BEST HORSE WINNING!!
Quito de la Roque
beats a battling
Sizing Europe
and
The Nightingale
in the feature event at Down Royal today in their 3m champion chase in what truly was a War of Attrition! And you would ban Davy Russell for an inspirational ride! CLULESS THE LOT OF EM!
November 5, 2011 at 14:53 #376178http://www.attheraces.com/card.aspx?rac … av=results
If ever a race sums up why we the REAL racing fans think the BHA
are a complete bunch of No-hopers! Its this! A REAL pleasure to see a horse and jockey outbattling his opponents!
Had Davy dropped his hands after the 8th strike of the whipQuito de la roque
would not have won, simple as that!
November 5, 2011 at 15:22 #376182What on earth do you think gives you the right to claim (effectively) that somehow that others who do not blindly agree with you are not REAL racing fans.
Get a grip mate, or your pompousity will start to get the better of you.November 5, 2011 at 15:50 #376190That is why the real solution is to disqualify the horse as well as to punish the jockey.
Wrong again Coggy! The REAL solution has nothing to do with disqualifying the horse! You keep coming out with rubbish like that and i’ll keep keeping it REAL!
November 5, 2011 at 15:55 #376192Oops, wrong tense in my last post. Its too late already re the pompousity.
Some self appointed deity are we ?
What a joker !November 5, 2011 at 16:16 #376197Poor Coggy , you obviously havent had your nonsense tablets today , never mind we are all well used to it (lie down for a while )
ps Richard Hills 9 day ban , for 9 strikes of which 3 were corrective
The Stewards agreed with him that it was harsh , but rules are rules , they no longer have discretion , so another fine mess for the Bha and their silly rule
So we can look forward to horses crashing through rails and wings of fences , as Jockeys cannot take any corrective action if they have used up their 7/8 smacks with the cushion stick
Could you make it up
Ricky

Coggy probably hasn’t had any nonsense tablets because it appears you have swallowed the lot.
November 5, 2011 at 16:59 #376205You beat me to it Stilvi.
Ricky is another self appointed expert whose total inability to recognise that others may have a valid viewpoint that may not coincide with his own shows a somewhat blinkered mentality.
Still he retains the ability to make sarcastic comments. I bet it keeps him warm at night. Lol.November 5, 2011 at 17:05 #376206Coggy , your take on the Doncaster stewards R Hills ban is what exactly ?
Ricky
