Although it looks a day to not be going mad at Leopardstown, I’ve went for a couple in this

Blake is the main one. Really liked what I’ve seen of him over hurdles, and bet him a couple of times in the flat. He’s won round here on the flat, and though more interested in him for The Supreme, I’m hoping whatever happens today, that he’ll still have that race as the plan

Davy Crockett really impressed me last summer, but he went off the radar for this season, having met a setback. He looks to be ahead of schedule then, but obviously risky. Very interested in him long term

    Blake 20’s EW
    Davy Crockett 16’s

Don’t think connections of Old Park Star are going to be losing too much sleep after that.

Was on the winner but I thought he’d been beaten by a head. Was furious with Slevin for giving his main 2 rivals such a head start lol.

He really looked to be clearly beaten at the line.

They shouldn’t be counting their chickens just yet. Talk The Talk won despite being held up off what looked a slow pace. He should enjoy the Cheltenham Hill and the faster pace, and connections said before this race the horse is going to keep improving into the Spring and on better ground whatever happens today as the ground today was an unknown.

Hendersons horse will have to many gears for him , the ground helped him today as the front pair couldn’t kick away , I’d worry for him on better ground

Nobody is saying it’s a foregone conclusion, Mike. But the form shown today – despite your mitigating factors – is nowhere near what Old Park Star has shown.

“is nowhere near what Old Park Star has shown.”

We don’t know what the form in England is worth yet. Old Park Star hasn’t taken on the best of Mullin’s and Elliott’s in a grade 1 novice hurdle and beaten them whilst giving them a bit of a head start.

Don’t be worried. He has a turn of foot.I’m looking forward to the head to head in March to see how the 2 of them measure up. And there’s El Cairos who has his fans.

    Winning trainer comments post race…

“He’s a good horse, obviously, and he got a lovely ride from JJ. We were always going to ride him fairly cold today. I said to JJ that we might get beat because of that but we were thinking of the horse’s long-term career.
I thought at halfway there was no chance he was going to make up any ground because they hacked around. The second and third sat first and second the whole way and we came from third or fourth last.
It’s a testament to the horse’s ability and also JJ made a key move to go from in to out to get a smooth passage home, all the way. Ultimately that was the winning of the race for him.
A few people mentioned that he wasn’t a great jumper but he actually is a very good jumper, he just made a few silly mistakes. I think his jumping was good today and he’s learned from every race.”
In the Supreme Novices Hurdle O’Brien expects him to be a major player. “He’s probably going to be favourite now and he’ll have a favourite’s chance.”
