Jesu wept, the hyperbole here has reached fever pitch!

The day I see stewards hand out a ban for a jockey who administers a solitary smack to patently avoid disaster is a day we’ll all never see.

    @Ricky
    – Do you seriously believe any jockey would rather go through a rail or worse rather than save himself by using his whip? You needn’t look froward to that scenaro, because it’s never going happen.

Get a frigging grip some of you.

Stealy, you talk a lot of sense….but you’re seeing Stewards handing out bans almost daily for what is categorically utterly ridiculous reasons.Dont tell me you are one of those ‘Quiet ones’ who’s silence speaks volumes that think Davy Russell should have been banned on his fantastic ride on

    Quito de la roque

for administering 14 strikes of a whip today!

    Fisher Of Contoversy,

Can you please tell us how many times Sizing Europe and The Nightingale were hit?

Have you watched the win of 10 lb claimer Maurice Linehan on Tarvini at Huntingdon? Came from a worse position than Quito De La Roque and within the rules.

It was a fantastic ride from Davy Russell, and such a shame that a ride such as that would lead to a severe ban and a loss of earnings over here.

I don’t see the relevance to that ride of Maurice Linehan as he was hardly picking up horses of the calibre of Sizing Europe and The Nightingale!

I’m happy to trust in a rider such as Davy Russell for him to know what he needed to do to win the race. Thank god Ireland have some sense on the matter.

And I backed Sizing Europe, just for the record…..

Totally and utterly irrelevant and i’m surprised and dissapointed in your lack of knowledge Ginge.

    Sizing Euope

is a 2m Champion Chaser who barely gets 3m on Good ground,he basically lacked stamina and administering 50 more cracks of the whip would not have seen him win.

    The Nightingale

blatantly blew up and again has questionable stamina for 3m,particularly in very Soft conditions as were todays.
Resolution and a will to win from the horse and a jockey who knows just how to get the best out of the individual wins the day, simple as that! Dont even compare races a world apart Ginge, you should know better……..Then again, you do depend on Timeform!!

I use a good form book that helps me Fisher.
Maybe it is time you started using Timeform.

How can the number of times Carberry and Lynch used the whip be "irrelevant" Fisher?

If as I suspect, The Nightingale and Sizing Europe had a lot of whip used (probably more than 8 anyway) – Then had it not been for those hits Russell would not have had to use the whip so much on Quito De La Roque.

And Maurice Linehan demonstrated jockeys can use ways of encouraging horses other than the whip. If a 10 lb claimer can do it, surely Russell is also capable.

Also, Quito De La Roque got there in plenty of time, soon enough for Russell to look at the camera and ease down. So fact is his horse did not need so many hits to win.

That ‘air cushion stick thing’ Davy Russell uses must pack some punch. The other two must have been waving peacock feathers at their mounts!

Mr Fisher, Davy broke the rules as they stand – however silly you or I (and I do) think they are – and so will rightfully serve his ban. It’s the same for everyone.

All these whip bans for trying too hard but nothing done for not trying, a jockey on Friday at Wolverhampton eased up for whatever reason (showboating, beating the handicapper etc) and lost a race by a short head he should have won but absolutely no action was taken against him.

Hardly a surprise Yeats. Crowley gets 5 days for hitting a horse ‘out of contention’ when just a few lengths off the pace at Wolverhampton. CD Timmons gets a ban for hitting a horse when ‘clearly winning’ when in front at Fontwell (a course notorious for horses veering towards the exit in the rail).

It’s not just the ‘frequency’ decisions that have been bizarre under these new rules.

You’d wonder how hard Brian Harding will be trying the next time he rides Lively Baron. To my eyes he used all of his experience and jockeyship to cajole a staying chaser into contention, a horse that basically didn’t want to know for the best part of 3 miles.

Trying for his life, 1.01 the horse is fine, but 13 days all the same.

Hope the hard races runners had in the JNWine don’t leave their mark on participents for the future.

And I always thought that Down Royal was in Ireland?

It’s not, it’s in Northern Ireland. But under Irish Racing rules.
