“Trump is just the useful idiot being employed as a front by a nebulous cohort of ‘end times’ Christian fundamentalists.”
More likely the neocons who were behind the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
One of President Trump’s self aggrandising boasts about his first term was that he hadn’t started any major foreign wars. If anything, he seemed to be a throwback to that old tradition of American isolationism, with his constant mantra of “America First”.
That seemed to be popular with his voters, so I can’t believe they are happy with him starting wars left, right and centre. The midterm elections will be interesting..
“Yep he did just say that”.
I saw him in a press conference earlier this week. I thought he looked and sounded very unwell. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t make it to the end of his term.
“I agree that Iran is harsh on its own citizens”.
A slight understatement. It has murdered thousands of its own citizens this year alone.
March 19, 2026 at 19:58 #1760475It’s not a zero sum game. You can be against the Iranian regime and also against the way that Israel and the USA are going about trying to bring it down.
March 19, 2026 at 23:00 #1760522Precisely! I don’t support Iran, but I am totally against the bloodshed Israel and the USA are responsible for. I am also against the hypocrisy of American actions. When Russia attacked Afghanistan it was awful, but when the USA went in, demanding our support, that was OK. Then we have Iraq, needing to be taken out because they had weapons of mass destruction. Which,of course, we now know was an illusion. The USA murdered thousands of innocent Vietnamese solely because they wanted regime change. Israel murdered and starved to death many thousands of Palestinians. This isn’t believing propaganda as we have seen photographs of the country in total ruins.
So I hope the current war ends soon, but I want to see Israel incapable of starting another war.
March 19, 2026 at 23:55 #1760523The USA has history of thinking it’s the surgeons knife cutting away the cancer when in fact it’s the cancer attacking the body , Vietnam is the horror the US hope you don’t look to closely at , Google “Agent Orange ” it wasnt just the Vietnamese but the US own troops that suffered because of this vile stuff , yet but it’s ok because ” God bless America * .. March 20, 2026 at 05:09 #1760524And let’s not forget the mess Churchill and the US created in Iran in the first place over, you’ve guessed it, oil.
March 20, 2026 at 06:57 #1760525Nobody needs ‘propaganda’ to form a negative opinion of the USA, possession of a few facts should do it.
March 20, 2026 at 08:25 #1760527but it’s ok because ” God bless America * .. Bollocks
Indeed

March 20, 2026 at 09:39 #1760530An interesting article on China, outlining how (relatively) well-placed it is to withstand a protracted energy crisis.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/mar/20/china-oil-reserves-global-energy-crisis
Their well-resourced mix of energy sources strikes me as the model elsewhere should adopt: not the extremes of a rush to renewable sources leading to a putative ‘net-zero’ by a set date nor the counterpoint of wholesale abandonment of renewables and ‘drill baby drill’ that seems to be the mutually exclusive beliefs here and in much of the West.

March 20, 2026 at 15:18 #1760546China is the most technically advanced country in the world. What we are witnessing is the slow death of the USA, leaving Israel toothless. The USA has sought to dominate the world since 1944 and has survived to date because every country had to hold the dollar to trade. This has enabled the USA to live above its means, incur huge debts and be subsidised by the rest of the worls. Those days are nearly over.
This is good news for the world. For too long countries have been afraid of the USA who will willingly sanction and starve to death any country who will not fall in line. What the USA has done to Cuba, more intensely recently, is horrific. All because Cuba kicked out Americans several years ago as they were running gambling tables and brothels. Cuba is currently in a bad state. Their people are starving and suffering major power cuts. They are close to capitulation, but luckily for them China is not terrified of the nastiest country in the world and is supplying aid. Hopefully this western parasite country will lose power soon and the world can live in peace
March 21, 2026 at 22:35 #1760687This guy’s clearly antisemitic:
March 21, 2026 at 22:53 #1760688Hopefully the US Congress will show some common sense and decline Trump’s mooted request for another $200 billion in order to continue Netanyahu’s illegal war.
Just think what that amount of money could do to help ordinary Americans in their daily lives; sadly, though, it would not be available for daily spending as it would be “emergency funding” for this specific purpose.
March 22, 2026 at 07:12 #1760694Even the most deluded Trump supporter is struggling to support this now , I’ve seen better strategy from kids playing British bulldogs , I reckon we are close to the ” We,ve won ” lie and the getting out of hazard departure …. Funnily if you listen to the lyrics they seem to work on how Trump has got through life… Yeeehaaaa

March 22, 2026 at 17:47 #1760730The mere mention of his name can make some of the usual suspects have a fit of the vapours but Peter Hitchens has never been an admirer of President Trump and didn’t hold back when he was a panelist on “Any Questions” on Friday:

March 23, 2026 at 06:16 #1760747A broken clock is right twice a day.
March 23, 2026 at 08:35 #1760748A terrific counterblast, particularly the analogy with Eisenhower’s reaction to the Suez shambles.
Reactions like these from Hitchens whose world view is firmly ‘to the right’ are precisely what’s needed as it helps highlight that opposition to this dreadful war bridges the political spectrum.
Rise up, rise up rightists and follow the lesser-Hitch’s lead.
March 23, 2026 at 09:45 #1760754Can’t ever remember agreeing with anything that Hitchens has said before, but he’s right here.
