Wonderful country China, don’t you wish you lived there?

Johnt, more useless propaganda I see. At a university over the years I taught hundreds of Chinese students. I asked them all ‘what is it really like living in China. It they had just said ‘fine’ I would not have believed them. But what they all said was ‘if you don’t get involved in politics they leave you alone’.
I have been on holiday to the USA, but never felt comfortable there. It will be even worse now they have delusional moron as President. I have also been on holiday in China. We received a warm welcome a felt safe.

What amazes me is that we know Trump lies and lies and lies again, but the markets seem to react to every word the baffoon utters. The latest one is that he is in talks with Iran to close the war down, but Iran denies this. I know who we should believe!

The reality is that Israel is on its last legs and is effectively defenceless. They and the USA will have to agree to Iran’s terms to end this illegal and unjustified war. The ‘five days’ grace is simply to find a way to spin defeat into victory.

“I know who we should believe!”

Yep, surprise, surprise that you believe the bilge that comes out from the Islamic republic. Why dont you go and live there if it’s so good and trustworthy?

My ex worked in China for a while. He loved the place, said it was nothing like he expected. Ok so he was working in affluent areas and presumably only saw what they wanted him to see, but he did take that into account. Our local university has close links with China and my grandson was going on a school trip to China before covid struck. I don’t worry about any of my family going there unlike America; people I know who want to visit family there don’t go whenever Trump is in power. I think the Chinese are just laughing at the rest of the world. They’re absolutely brilliant when it comes to soft power. Just listening to the news now and we have a situation in which no one believes a word that comes out of the POTUS’s mouth ( assuming that what he’s saying is even remotely coherent, which it usually isn’t).

I’d go to China over the USA any day of the week. Are we in a privileged position as foreign tourists? Of course but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a magnificent place to visit.

What amazes me is that we know Trump lies and lies and lies again, but the markets seem to react to every word the baffoon utters.

Not enough is being made of this. He’s playing ‘the markets’ like a fiddle. Notice how utterances that cause a shift are happening on Friday afternoons and Monday mornings. Someone who was in the know could make a lot of money. Not that I would ever suggest that what’s happening you understand.

Wilts, if you believe a word that comes out of Trump’s mouth, you will believe anything.

One minute he says the USA will keep shipping open without anybody’s help. The next thing he asks for the whole world’s help, including begging China for help.

The poor man is delusional and doesn’t know what to do next. The sad thing is we all suffer because the USA and Israel started an illegal war for no good reason and they don’t know how to stop it

Other than Tibet, ive never had any restrictions travelling around anywhere in China.
One thing the locals used to tell me was that, democracy would not work due to the large population and multi ethnic stuff. So most accept that the Gov look after them in the best way possible.

As for Iran, I have former work sales staff that have been there on Business trips (thankfully they never sold anything), They had no issues and were well looked after.
Since their last trips, the UK Gov have issued all but essential travel notice. Now theres a UK couple in an Iranian prison complaining that the UK Gov wont help. I have no sympathy for those that ignore this travel advice and expect to be bailed out for X million of tax payers money.

Spot on, and the Iranians, at least, are wise to it:

Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Monday that “no negotiations” were held with the United States after US president Donald Trump announced talks were ongoing.

“No negotiations have been held with the US, and fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped,”

Trump was doing much the same market manipulation with his stream of on-then-off trade tariffs.

Re Richard’s post. Absolutely spot on re the manipulation of the markets. I’m convinced that Trump is using his position as the ultimate in “insider” trading.

As for life in China, my sister in law and her husband were living there for 10 years, only returning 18 months ago. They were working in International schools in Guangzhou and then Shanghai, so pretty insulated for the most part, but on the whole a very positive experience despite being subject to a very lengthy and onerous lockdown during Covid.

As much as I detest Netanyahu and disagree with everything he does, he is at least consistent. With Trump you have no idea what he’s planning next – he doesn’t know so how are we supposed to.

I really think he has lost it. If anyone else acted in this way in their job they would be sacked and sectioned.

Trump also sends his SIL to do negotiations with other countries and supposedly does private trade deals at the same time. I seem to remember Trump talking about draining the swamp. He is the swamp.

It’s actually looking like Iran are playing hardball with the US which is insane , Trump and his admin are all over the place , I really don’t know where he goes now , I’m guessing out .. quickly , however there’s no way even Trump can call this a win , he’s also now got a young and energetic enemy out for revenge ….

Interesting article published in the Guardian.

Bets on US-Iran ceasefire show signs of insider knowledge, say experts
New online accounts on Polymarket platform betting a total of $70,000 suggest ‘some degree of inside info’

Several accounts on the online platform Polymarket laid bets on a US-Iran ceasefire over the weekend that appeared to show signs of insider knowledge, according to experts.

Eight accounts, all newly created around 21 March, bet a total of nearly $70,000 (£52,000) on there being a ceasefire. They stand to make nearly $820,000 if such a deal is reached before 31 March.

An account that made the same bet was created shortly before the US struck Iran on 28 February. It also placed a winning bet on those strikes, which raised similar questions around insider trading, and so far has bet on nothing else.

The new accounts all appear to have been created late last week, around the time when the US president, Donald Trump, appeared to first double down on war with Iran, then suggest in an after-markets Truth Social post that he was considering “winding down” military operations.

    £820,000?

The amount of money made from insider trading on oil and gas will make £820,000 look like the kind of money you find down the back of the sofa.
