If Israel overplays its retaliation could it bring other more deadly countries into the “war”?

Some in the Iran leadership believe that being killed in the process of killing non-believers will result in going straight to paradise. Therefore it could be said, winning or losing doesn’t mean as much to Iran than the demolition of Israel / the jews.

I remember N Ireland in 1971; the IRA had v little support at that time, but in response to their campaign, the unionist govt introduced internment without trial, jailing 100s on minimal evidence, and providing the IRA with a propaganda victory.
Israel are doing exactly what Hamas want them to do; an assault on Gaza, with 1000s of civilian casualties, and a new generation radicalised.

And the west is now in a position where it has to support what Israel are doing even bough they have responded to the killing of innocent people by killing more innocent people. Which is just what Hamas knew they would do.

I don’t know enough about it to comment properly but it’s all rather depressing isn’t it?

We’ve been having wars for thousands of years and we still are. Clearly they don’t work or we’d have had world peace centuries ago, perhaps even millennia.

Can’t we all just get along? It’s bad enough when those who signed up to combat are killing each other, even worse when civilians are dragged into it especially in the numbers seen here.

As you say Richard man has been at war for thousand’s of years, it’s like nature has put this destructive gene in our DNA, maybe to keep human numbers down.

With plagues, and various climate changes over the millenium’s etc, I think our mother nature has a lot more say in our life than we think.

For anyone who does not fully understand the politics of the Israel-Palestine conflict it is difficult to find something that puts both views fairly. I’ve even found the British TV channels biased. However, did find this totally unbiased, brilliant explanation of the conflict with Rory Stewart and Alistair Campbell:

I came on here to post that exact same link.

Rory Stewart is easily my all-time favourite Tory, probably because he’s like no politician of any Party you’ll ever meet – he’s simply an intelligent bloke, very balanced, moderate, reasonable, logical and honest and has a talent for explaining things in a very accessible way.

TRIP’s is my go to podcast to make sense of everything. Has anyone listened to any of Rory’s lectures which he makes note free? I first became aware of him years ago when he made a series on, I think, BBC about Cumbria and the borders. To think the Conservatives could have had him as their leader and not Johnson.

Not sure if that is the one I’m thinking of or if the link works!

In addition to the good Stewart/Campbell summary, this seems reasonable too:

The latest TRIP’s is very good. An interview with Israeli historian Yuval Noah Harari. I seem to depend emotionally on TRIP’s these days to get things into perspective.

    Hospital hit in Gaza.
    “Unclear” who is at fault.
Israel blames Hamas, Hamas blames Israel.
Missile was more powerful than anything Hamas has so Israel has come up with a story…
Israel blaming Hamas, saying the missile was aimed at Israel, went off course, hit the area around the hospital which had an explosive store near it which exploded. That seems a massive coincidence to believe.

West Bank will be hard to control, with its Palestinian leader calling off tomorrow’s meeting with Biden. Jordan’s leader’s pulled out too.
Many Arab countries who’ve normalised relations with Israel have blamed Israel.
Hezbollah backed by Iran may now get involved from Lebanon.
Iran itself seems nearer getting involved.
Biden’s visit tomorrow may be counter-productive.
Israel needs to tread very carefully if they’re not to fall into a trap laid by Hamas and Iran.

I wrote quite a long while back Chezza and Like you I think
this country could do with Rory Stewart. I even said, although
the words nearly choked in my throat, that if Stewart did get
the Conservative leader, I would have considered voting Conservative.

Please God would some party bring Rory into their fold, their chances
    would double overnight I reckon.

As for the nightmare in Gazza, how will Israel justify sending
half a million people to the south of Gaza, and then bomb them ????

How long will it be before Iran and Hezbollah feel justified in getting
involved. The Israelis are prodding them with a big stick.

They say this is Israel’s 9/11. It has becomeIsrael’s Afghanistan. They’ve done exactly what Hamas wanted them to.
