I suspect it may to be with your PC and the amount of space available for cache storage.
Maybe so, Paul, but its not as If I have multiple race pages open together. I think it happens on both laptop and desk PC.
June 25, 2009 at 11:47 #236243Here we go then, working backwards:
zilzal – there isn’t a restriction on the number of pages you can access during any one session, so it may be a PC/laptop thing. Paul is an expert on IT so maybe he can offer you a suggestion on how to avoid this happening. I would be interested to know if others have experienced this – just PM me. Regarding your other point, you’re right – when you hold your mouse over a horse’s name, it now says "Click to view details". Sorry if you would prefer to see the breeding at this point, but the idea is to signpost the fact that there is much more to view when you click (including the breeding), hope you can get used to it.
indocine – maybe I’m being stupid and doing the wrong thing, but that doesn’t happen for me, have others experienced this?
Librettist – I’ll investigate the possibility of naming the stage that the big races have reached, though in most cases there aren’t many these days – you obviously have long term interest in certain events! I think the fact that the trainer entries don’t currently list the autumn juvenile events and next year’s Derby is just a space issue but I will look into this.
reet hard – those sound like things that can be sorted if necessary, I just need to know if others have had the same problem with overprinting of weights and ratings. Also, I assume the lack of race meeting name is on printed (pdf) versions of the card only? Standard times and comparisons in foreign races – can someone give me a link to illustrate this so I can check it out, ta?
When we’re all sure that these are site issues rather than PC settings I’ll pass on the info, cheers

They don’t have to be open concurrently.
If you PM me the spec of your laptop / PC including which version of Windows and which browser you are using – I will let you know some settings you can check.
Can’t guarentee answers remotely but will see what I can do.
June 25, 2009 at 12:30 #236250Paul – my penneth on the freezing issue is that I’ve experienced the same on my laptop, plus one or two others elsewhere, and not always after conducting as many searches, etc. as Zilzal. The common link between these machines? Accursed Windows Vista!

Overprinting isn’t something curious to my computer, but is present on most NH cards, viz:
http://www.racingpost.com/horses/racing.sd?race_id=486368&r_date=2009-06-26
The lack of of race meeting name appears to have been rectified on the same day I posted the problem; likewise the foreign standard times which had been a problem for a while has recently be sorted – though I assure you I wasn’t dreaming about either.
Thanks for getting involved, and it’s good to see at least.one line of communication with the RP elicit a response.
June 25, 2009 at 14:22 #236271indocine – maybe I’m being stupid and doing the wrong thing, but that doesn’t happen for me, have others experienced this?
Still doing it today, been taken to Sportingbet, Hills etc. Maybe it’s just specific to the Opera browser I’m using.
June 25, 2009 at 14:25 #236273reet hard – will investigate that tonight, thanks. Regarding things that have been already been updated, there was a major overhaul of the site on Monday night which will have corrected some of your points. It’s magic!
indocine – that may be the case, but I’ll have another go when I get in tonight

Lee,
Thanks for the personal touch and taking the time to look into the above. I have to say, though, that the website controller is underestimating the intelligence of the of the new user and testing the patience of the regular punter. Seeing the stallion details of the opponents in a race without having to bring up unnecessary pages is key in the evaluation of a race for flat form students.
Graysoncolumn seems to have the answer to the freezing issue. I have Windows Vista on my laptop and usually use Internet Explorer.

Paul,
Thanks for your offer of help. I may need to avail of it..

June 25, 2009 at 23:26 #236375Help.
Several months ago, I bookmarked a page of the Racing Post, so that I could always have access to an Advanced Search, so that I could look up the past results of races by race title.
With the changes, the advanced search has disappeared from that page.
How do I do an Advanced Search now?
Alternatively, could someone provide me with the draw positions of the past dozen or so Northumberland Plate winners.
edit: ignore this – Advanced Search is now on the Results Page.

…and it’s just binned on me once more after doing no more than looking up Spiekeroog’s form guide and his last race (in response to the new thread thereupon); again, a little way short of the number of searches you’d cited in your example. Ah, the joys of half-cooked, rush-released Microsoft products…

June 26, 2009 at 13:05 #236439reet hard – after checking with others including our very own Paul Ostermeyer, it appears that the overprinting isn’t the fault of the website. I’m told that printing problems (from many websites) often arise because of browser and printer issues.
The first suggestion is to make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your printer (go to the website of your printer to download). You may also like to trying googling "web printing tools" for your browser, which may be able to offer you software to vary the look of what you’re printing out.
Maybe the experts on here can help you more, good luck!
Meanwhile thanks for all the points you and others have made. The Monday night upgrade already seems to have rectified some of the problems that many of you were having – it must be ESP!

Browser-based printing problems can generally be ascribed to miscommunication – the browser simply fails to recognise the margins the printer works to.
Internet Explorer was, is and always will be a bugger for this, but if you use the ‘print preview’ facility and ensure ‘shrink to fit’ is selected, everything should be fine.

Whoah there – It isn’t a problem with my printer, maybe I haven’t made it clear, but it’s the actual racecard that appears on my monitor that has the problem.
On the link I gave, the lbs weight figures of the top 2 horses are transposed over the OR of each horse, and it happens every time the weight carried runs into 4 figures. It may be my browser, as obviously not everyone seems to be having the same problem, but it doesn’t happen on any other website, nor did on the old co.uk siteJune 26, 2009 at 15:29 #236450Whoah there – It isn’t a problem with my printer, maybe I haven’t made it clear, but it’s the actual racecard that appears on my monitor that has the problem.

Thank you Paul; changing the resolution fixes the problem – where have you been all my life?
June 26, 2009 at 16:15 #236464….. and I thought I had retired from working in IT

Glad to have been of assistance

Thanks for all the help, could I impose a little further, by asking if there’s a link anywhere on RP.com to the stable tours?
They were most useful previously, but I can’t find them anywhere this season. - AuthorPosts
