Interesting article in the film review section of the Observer this weekend about the film ‘Seraphine’ which likens her to modern day television programme celebrities. Tend to forget the effect of fame on ‘ordinary’ people, and the problems they have dealing with it. Even Grace Darling had problems with the press etc after she became a national heroine.
She does seem to have trouble coping with all the attention sometimes.Not surprising really when you think it’s come so suddenly to her.No1 in the album charts

Maybe the millions she will make will help her feel more at ease.Good luck to her.
December 1, 2009 at 00:17 #261453Have to admit to not having heard her sing before [when I watched the final of Britains Got Talent I switched on after she performed her song]but that song has really moved me; she really has got a unique gift. What a voice.

Now re-interpreted as a minimal ambient shoegaze piece by Autorotation, friends of Mrs Column and one of London’s more engaging live propositions at present;

December 1, 2009 at 12:40 #261493I’ve always thought The editors were a bit inspired by Joy Division. This album may have come in for criticism because they have went a bit electronic on it and moved away from the guitars. The opening track is absolutely brilliant IMO, it’s just different to anything I’ve heard…I love it. Its possible this album reminds me a bit of new order, but for the new millenium.
Exhibit A. Certainly one of my fave tracks of this year;

December 1, 2009 at 13:38 #261502Blimey; they’re a bit fit, those lads [in an aerobic way, I mean]..was hoping they’d filmed it on Smallbrook Queensway, but didn’t recognise any of it….feel quite worn out watching it.

I’m not always a fan of Kate covers,but that was rather good.Does anyone ever ask the young lady if she’s related to Paul McCartney? She has that look about her.

Its a corker Jeremy, Exhibit B-love this this track, the opening track of the album-sounds like morse code coming through on the breakdown.
December 1, 2009 at 22:37 #261627Just noticed after listening to that Youtube link that Tiesto has a nice little remix of Papillon. Has been a while since liked any of Tiestos stuff, probably Flight 643 being the last Ive liked.
Was listening to this tune the other day, when someone passed comment on what a good tune it was. Starts off a bit like the Eels but ends with a bit of James Bond theme tune sort of feel. Quite likeable though in its own right…

December 1, 2009 at 23:30 #261657Night Of The Demon.This inspired Kate in her writing Hounds of love.Also bits of it can be detected in her short film-The Line,the cross and the curve,
and The Red Shoes album.It’s coming it’s in the trees!
December 1, 2009 at 23:36 #261662Checked out The Editors-found them a bit meh.
That’s the first time I’ve said ‘meh’ Always thought it was a crime for anyone over 14 to say it

Not going to editor it out,as it was my first thought.

Ooh, no idea! I’ll ask Robyn when I see her next. Maybe.

Still on Bush covers, what did you make of Futureheads’ reworking of "Hounds of Love" or China Drum thrashing their way through "Wuthering Heights"? Don’t think either regarded the original material quite as reverentially as the above.

Never been big on Kate Bush in her original format, but thought the futureheads version of hounds of love was kick ass. They also done a really good cover of Amy Winehouse – Back to Black.
Favorite Kate Bush cover however was Placebo’s version of Running Up That Hill, great stuff.
