November 28, 2025 at 16:23 #1745786Good to see you are doing this thread again. I am sure it will be in profit soon.
I hope Southport’s revival in form continues tomorrow at Alfreton. I was thinking of making the journey but I probably won’t.
I think we had a bit of bad luck earlier in the season and were not done any favours by one or two referees. But I think the main issue was Neil Danns was a bit naive with his tactics and substitutions.
To be fair, I think he has learned from his mistakes and has brought in a few players to give the team a bit more backbone. We were very good in the second half against Kidderminster last Saturday and I have been told we were excellent against Radcliffe last Tuesday.
With the players we have now, I honestly think we should be aiming for a mid table finish. After being minutes away from being wound up, I think that would be a good result.
Incidentally, I saw Jim Bentley quite recently. His son is now playing in defence for South Liverpool, my local non league team. Jim is a good fellow and I hope he finds another manager job soon.
November 29, 2025 at 07:12 #1745903Welcome back CAS, always good to see news on Stockport goings on. Brackley, started well in the NL, but now seem to have been found out and dropping like a stone.
Due to the FA Cup 2nd round tie against Burton being played Monday December 8th, they will, by chance be in the third round draw.
November 29, 2025 at 07:21 #1745906I wouldn’t be surprised if Alfreton v Southport is called off today with all the rain forecast.
November 29, 2025 at 07:21 #1745907So KSV1919 lost to the kids last night 1-2.
Not much time for this today, so a quick stab
Correct score Pat. 3.5

November 29, 2025 at 07:33 #1745908I don’t know if you have seen it but this lad does some good football ground videos. He visited Brackley earlier in the season:
November 29, 2025 at 12:33 #1745972“I wouldn’t be surprised if Alfreton v Southport is called off today with all the rain forecast.”
I called that one right. At least I decided not to travel!
South Liverpool v Chadderton it is, then.
November 29, 2025 at 17:39 #1746143Thanks for the Tube stuff CAS, very nice review by the lad. I see an old buddy of mine loitering around trying to avoid the camera..
The lad is probably correct in nothing to do in town, the best write up was from John Leyland, back in the Tudor times. He mentioned about the large number of public houses, 20+ if I remember correctly, theres only about 8 now and the population is 20 times greater.Anyway, Cobbs won, Banbury won and as I suspected Brackley lost, not helped by a 17th minute red card, plus the 5 yellows. May have a significant impact on the selection for the FA Cup a week Monday. Hopefully Im home for that, getting very wet in Bergen..not good for my joints.
November 29, 2025 at 19:23 #1746155The same lad visited Southport last March, when we lost 2-0 to King’s Lynn. Jim Bentley’s penultimate game in charge.
I was there that day. I haven’t seen myself but I was on the terrace down the side of the ground in the second half.

December 3, 2025 at 17:43 #1746547Another blank as Cobbs won 2-0.
Still keeps the 2@66s alive to win the MEGA EF Trophy..
VC are at 25s now, no other odds showing, time to take a chance on a favourable home tie.
So another silly 5@25sNot sure when the last 16 draw is, but please not Luton as they look the best remaining side in the South Section.

Their biggest match sinceBig night, third round draw will be done and the victors will know if they are playing away at a sexy ground like Anfield, Old Trafford or a home tie with the like of Western Super Mare.
I cant see Brackley progressing on current form, but its the cup. Magic nights can occur and fingers crossed for this one.
Some speculative shots here.

December 8, 2025 at 16:29 #1747044Moving onto Tuesday. Northampton home to Huddersfield.
A certain Herbert Chapman has managed both clubs, Cobbs from 1907 to 1912, then Huddersfield from 1921 to 1925, winning two league 1 titles and an FA Cup.
Quote from his Wikki..
At the time, teams rarely employed tactics of any sort – Chapman would later remark: “No attempt was made to organise victory. The most that I remember was the occasional chat between, say two men playing on the same wing.”[24] As a manager, he sought to change that; after seeing Northampton lose to Norwich City despite dominating, Chapman opined that “a team can attack for too long”.[25] He thus set about creating a tactical framework for all his players; he dropped the half backs (midfield) back to give his forwards more space and draw the opposition defenders out of the penalty area,[26] while encouraging his own back line to pass their way out of trouble.[27] Gradually, he created a style of highly organised, counter-attacking football, which was at odds with the prevailing orthodoxy but nevertheless highly effective; Swindon Town’s England international Harold Fleming, after losing 4–1 at home to Northampton, remarked to Chapman: “You have something more than a team: you have a machine.Anyway, Cobbs missed the boat with Herbert, another one of those.. what if..
First a double Cobbs 11/5 and Brackley 11/4 (Mondays FA Cup match).
5@11sHuddersfield, are not on a good run at present, so having read their forum, the fans are despondent and hoping for a cobbs win. This is to get the manager fired..
So Ill follow their lead and expect a decent home win with a few goals.
Cobbs Ethan Wheatly to score a brace, 2@16s (now our big lump up front is fit, gives the young Man U loanee balls to run onto.
Cobbs to win 4-1 2@66s
