Thanks for that, homer. As I say, he was a little before my time but I know lots of Southport supporters have good memories of him. Some think we let him go too cheaply but £20,000 in the early 1970s would have been a fair sum for a club that was always struggling financially.
It is good to see how he went on to have a successful career and is well remembered.
January 13, 2026 at 10:30 #1750320Inspection called for 11am at Eastleigh today on the orders of the FA. It sounds to me like the authorities are not very pleased with how the situation was handled on Friday and Saturday.
There was the same situation with Bath v Southend, with the game being called off close to kick off, long after the team and supporters had travelled and with no indication that the game was in doubt.
It is disgraceful to treat supporters this way nowadays, in an era when the state of play can be communicated in seconds via social media.
January 13, 2026 at 17:00 #1750354From the Eastleigh and Southport Forums, it seems a few fans witnessed a local match on Saturday. With the home side winning 9-0..
Looks like its on tonight, CAS your negativity about the Southport squad has pushed me to back Eastleigh tonight (Sorry)

January 13, 2026 at 18:42 #1750367Good luck. I think you will be OK.
I expect the Southport players will have black armbands on tonight after the news that Eric Redrobe died on New Year’s Eve. As with Tony Field, he was a bit before my time but he was a legendary figure at Haig Avenue and voted the club’s best ever player in a recent poll.
It seems incredible now that he was sold for only £6,000 to the newly elected to the football league Hereford United.
January 13, 2026 at 20:54 #17503922-0 to Southport early in the second half!
Sorry, L!
January 14, 2026 at 07:22 #1750418At least it wasn’t the 3-0 you mentioned – but it almost was. Southport hit the post in second half added time!
Southport’s best result of the season. I hope that gives them some confidence.
Fylde now in the last 16. A bit of a jinx side for the Sandgrounders, so let’s hope our luck changes. I may try to get to the game.
January 14, 2026 at 18:24 #1750487Great result for you CAS, obviously Ill never believe you again. Wishing you a great run in the Comp..
January 14, 2026 at 18:32 #1750489So tonight Cobbs last chance to make the season exciting.
Home to Walsall in the EFL Trophy. On Monday I placed two bets,
Cobbs win BBTS 4@9/2
Cobbs correct score 4-1 1@66s.
These odds have changed now to 11/4 for the BTTS bet and 33s for the 4-1.
Tonight after seeing the line ups, two goal scorer bets.
Dyche any time 3@10s
Swyer first 2@9sCome on Cobbs win this please!!
-10
plus the -10 stupid Eastleigh bet
-96..Ill work out the red code soon.January 15, 2026 at 06:57 #1750511Goal scoring jinx strikes again, Swyer scores after 18 mins, typically its the second of the evening. Dyche gets hooked after 70 mins.
The 4-2 win, so close to the 4-1, but hey ho.
Draw on Saturday I believe, Swindon in a bit of trouble after beating Luton due to a sub not being on the match day team sheet. Southern section looks open now, home tie would be nice, an away draw to Plymouth on a Tuesday night would not be welcome.BTTS came in and returned 22.

League 1
Northampton V Wycombe H 9/4 D 21/10 A 11/10
I was surprised when Cobbs beat Wanderers in the EFL Trophy knock stages in December. Wycombe are moving up towards the play offs sitting in 11th. While Cobbs are 20th, but theres only 4 points between them.
Man Utd recalled the England U20 kid Ethan Wheatly, and promptly loaned him out to Bradford City also in League 1, it wont be a Good Friday for him when Cobbs visit Valley Parade.National League
Brackley V Yeovil H 21/20 D 11/5 A 13/5
Brackley need to start scoring goals to have any chance of staying up, the current league total of 18 in 24 is relegation form. Some new signings have been made, two youth teamers from Birmingham have settled in well and look good at this level. Forest Green have loaned Brackley a striker to provide more threats upfront.
Yeovil also low scorers with 26 goals from 26 league matches.Southern League Central
Banbury V St Ives H 19/20 D 12/5 A 12/5
Not a lot to say about this, both teams on the same points in mid table. If the rain comes, the pitch will be soft heavy in places.Correct Score PAT
Cobbs V Wycombe 2-2 12s
Brackley V Yeovil 3-1 16s
Banbury V St Ives 2-1 7s
3.5Treble
Wycombe Win
Brackley Win
Banbury to Draw

January 17, 2026 at 06:25 #1750689Just when I thought ive a lazy Saturday at home, the phone goes and its off to work.
So second guessing the Cobbs team sheet, sure there will be changes after the EFL Trophy win, but where, only Nolan knows.
Guthrie was rested midweek, expect he will start at CB. Dyche started so probably on the bench today.
Guthrie 1st 1@22
Guthrie any time 2@11
Dyche any time 2@10Two correct score picks, I doubt Cobbs will score more than one, but I seem to be wrong most weeks.
3-1 2@28S
4-1 1@70SHeart break bet.
Cobbs HT Wycombe FT 2.5@25-10.5
-90January 17, 2026 at 07:48 #1750694Somewhat surprising to see Southport as marginal favourites with the bookmakers for their away six pointer at Bedford.
The Sandgrounders had a great result on Tuesday but that big effort and a third long journey in a week makes me worried about how much is left in the tank.
Southport won the home fixture 3-1 back in August but Bedford are one of those big, physical sides firing long balls into the box which Southport tend to struggle against.
7/4 on Bedford to win and 17/2 for them to win both halves looks appealing – although I hope I am wrong again! With South Shields on Tuesday and Merthyr next Saturday, we could do with the points.
January 17, 2026 at 18:13 #1750844Nothing like a late winner for Southport CAS, relegation worries, youll be safe.
Interestingly, not sure if you came across Real Bedford, they play in Southern League Central, lots of rumours that they will amalgamate in the not to distant future. Real Bedford, have cash to burn and are ambitious.
Onwards and upward Bud..
January 17, 2026 at 18:20 #1750846A typical what a load of cobblers day..Giving way soft goals, then the manager says we could have won that. Im not a Kevin Nolan fan, hes never played a settled side, prefers his media cheques to managing the team.
Anyway, there was some returns today, Guthrie scored the second goal..anytime returned 24.
Wycombe and Brackley both won, the treble with the Banbury draw came in, due to their match being void..waterlogged. Returned 8.61+32.61
Leaves me in the red to a -57.39.January 17, 2026 at 19:40 #1750869I didn’t see that result coming, especially after being 1-0 and 2-1 down. A tremendous effort after all the travelling in the last week. The other results went our way as well!
Another long journey now to South Shields on Tuesday night. Realistically I would take a point right now.
A pity my local team South Liverpool got knocked out of the FA Vase today in a bizarre game which ended in a 5-2 defeat. The double Wembley trip to see them play in the final and Southport in the Trophy final is over.
Nice bets landed today, I see.
January 20, 2026 at 10:51 #1751102National League
Brackley travel to Truro a 520 mile round trip on a Tuesday night.
Obviously with such a long journey for the away teams, Truro’s home form is solid. They have won 5 drawn 2 and lost 6, scoring 17 and conceding 13 in the 13 matches.
Brackley’s away form is poor, with just 2 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats, scoring 8 and conceding 17.
Recent form 5 matches, Brackley have lost 2 but unbeaten in 3, while Truro have 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.
There have been 6 previous meetings over the years, including this seasons National League meeting which was a 1-0 home win. Brackley have the edge overall with 4 wins to Truros 1, with 1 being drawn.
Truro City V Brackley Town, Odds H7/5 D 21/10 A 15/8
This is a must win game for Truro as they sit second from bottom in the league, they will just have to go for it tonight. Brackley can sit back soak up the pressure and score on the counter attack.
Away win
6@15/8
Correct Scores
1-2 2@10s
1-3 1@25s
Just in case the long trip slows Brackley down in the second half.
Brackley HT Truro FT 1@28S

Ongoing -67.39January 20, 2026 at 10:58 #1751104South Shields have a healthy goals for number, Southport will struggle to get a point, and a win would be a miracle. But its football and strange things happen, a couple of red cards, bad offside calls, dodgy ref..we’ve seen it all before. Good luck though.
