As JP Gallorini would say "owners are like young women, they can be pursuaded"

    (or words to that effect)

As a rule, though it seems to have been broken a few more times in recent years with King bringing his out early, the better 4 year olds don’t come out until Xmas, so while Starluck and to a lesseer extent Simarian looked impressive, the level of their form may not be that good. There are also a few potentially very smart horses yet ot get a go, notably Donegal and Hebridian.

An interesting addition to the Triumph picture is Ramona Chase who is due to debut over hurdles in a grade 2 at Lingfield (also featuring Simarian). With a culmination of the fact that High Chaparrals havent fared to badly so far in the Triumph picture so far through Indian Groom and Nino Cochise (who have both upset the apple cart at the king yard), and that Ramona Chase was one of the best and probably the toughest of high chaparrals last season, loves cut and had some of his best form at around 10f, I would think he should be able to acquit himself well at 2 miles over hurdles.
On the flat he was quite weak in a fighting finish though but this isnt the flat, can’t seem to find any odds on him for the triumph though which could be a sign in itself, but one would think that he would probably be the stables biggest hope in the race, and the trainer looks to have formed a syndicate to buy the horse, probably with this race in mind. It will be interesting to see how he goes on saturday.

Anoher Clash tomorrow is between Starluck and Balzaccio, which is one I am quite looking forward to seeing, I quite liked the look of Balzaccio prior to his last win, and was only put off by the fact that there was no money for him in the triumph market, but he would look like a horse in the same mould as starluck so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top tomorrow, but with starluck being the current favorite for the triumph, balzaccios 40-1 would soon turn on it’s head if he were to win, conversely, if Balzaccio runs to form and is beaten then it will be a good indicator as to how good Starluck actually is.

Really competetive class 4 on wednesday at newbury, featuring Black Jacari, Hebridean, and Zaynar.

Zaynar is currently recieving some heavy looking support moving into what looks like 14s and 16s (similar to binocular ahead of his debut last year, but binocular was a general bigger 20s going 16s the day of his debut, however there was much more money in the market then on ashkazar and franchoek, and by recollection celestial halo aswell). Henderson has already brought out a decent horse in giorgio quercus but the betting suggests this one is better and is going to be much shorter soon.

I am surprised that Hebridean is out this side of christmas, one would think that he is going well at home, but no money for him as yet. Worth watching the market regarding these before the off.

And there it is, the gamble on hebridean has begun. Dont think 16s will last long there.

Tomorrow looks like themost exciting juvenile novice race of the season so far with two heavily fancied runners going head to head with the likes of Saingeland in the field who will be a good bench mark as will King’s horse Walkon who looks decent and should thrive in the soft ground. Venetia William filly doesnt look bad either. A must see race IMO and one that will more than likely change the complection of the triumph market.

Never in any doubt really there – Zaynar won easily, needs to brush up on his jumping but definitely a worthy favourite for this.

Get in IrishStamp, got to be happy with that. :D . I think that where Hebridean goes on soft a 2 mile hurdle on soft can be turned into a slog which will exceed his stamina limits. Hebridean is still in the picture IMO but am really happy with Zaynar’s performance.

Quotes of 5s and 6s would look pretty fair when you bear in mind the support that came in for him before the race, he was 14s and 16s before that run.

How does Zaynar look now Irish Stamp after Walkon franking the form, bookies are going 3-1 about him…

That little class 4 is now the strongest looking race of the entire juvenile novice season so far.

Sorry to piss on your bonfire and all that but Walkon was giving Zaynar 6lbs in that race. A 4L win for Zaynar may look good but with Walkon at 16-1 (20-1 pre race which I kindly took a nibble on) he looks much better value.

Walkon looked like a very decent jumper today at Kempton and I’ll be siding with him to reverse the form with Zaynar come March.

I agree though, that Class 4 race will hold the key to the winner of the Triumph Hurdle.

They’re still going to have to go some to beat Starluck who, having now backed up his Fakenham victory, looks very, very good. The 7/1 (fortunately I’m on at a little bigger) available is still worth taking.

I must admit Equitrack, I have a few backed but not Starluck and he worries me most of those who I am currently against, he is certainly a classy prospect, and I am pondering hat to do with regards him yet.

The thing that has always stood out to me with walk-on is that at no point has any money came in for him in the triumph market, not before today or any of his other starts, all the king yard money is on Mount Helicon, and I am pretty convinced that Mount Helicon will emerge as the stable number one in time. Walk-on is actually bred to thrive on soft conditions and although I was somewhat dubious about whetehr it was soft today, pre racing, I actually think it probably was. Interestingly enough he is by Take Risks who knocked up Five Dream who emerged as a serious triumph contender at round about this time, on similar ground last year, only to fizzle out a bit as the ground improved.

Class 4 or no Class 4 it’s the best form on offer at the moment.

The form looks great Bulwark – I’m really happy with that, at the moment he still needs to brush up on his jumping and goes to Ascot next month with a big chance. Presume he’ll go the Kempton route too before Cheltenham.

Giving 6lbs or not Walkon was never in the race at Newbury and the result wasn’t in doubt from about 2 or 3 out. At the prices post-Newbury the 20’s certainly was the better bet of the two – having already backed Helium and Long Run in addition to Zaynar I can’t really back anything else in the race.

Likely some classy types to come out before the end of the season but Zaynar (despite his poor flat form) is exceptionally well bred (out of a French Oaks winner) and should have the class if it comes down to that.

Given that Walkon was giving weight away at Newbury and the fact his trainer’s novices improve a lot more for runs than Henderson’s tend to, I would not be dancing too much had I backed Zaynar just yet. True he will come on for that run, but I suspect come Cheltenham Walkon will reverse the form. Whether either will be 1st is another matter, but its still a little early to be counting any winnings yet.

Good things come to those that wait :) I couldn’t see passed Ebadiyan yesterday after the way he won at Nass.

Only a Grade3 race and he looked anything but a good thing turning for home, taking a bit of time to get into top gear. One he did he put a lot of distance between himself and the second and was very impressive.

He’s very fast over his hurdles plus he looks like the stiff course at Cheltenham will be right up his street.

He’s no good thing as this looks a much better contest than last season.
I can’t see him being far away on the day though.14/1 EW on him looked good untilI tried to get on  ……..no longer available was the cry and had to settle for 12’s but still good value in comparison to the lousy 7/2 they are offerning on Nicky’s horse who will need plenty cut to be at his best.
