Maybe one of us can dig out the list of Awards categories between now and then as well?
Quote yourself if no-one else will!
As I recall it, last year’s Awards categories (and winners) were;
HORSE OF THE YEAR – KAUTO STAR
JOCKEY OF THE YEAR – SEB SANDERS
TRAINER OF THE YEAR – PAUL NICHOLLS
OWNER OF THE YEAR – CLIVE SMITH
RACECOURSE OF THE YEAR – GOODWOOD
COMMENTATOR OF THE YEAR – RICHARD HOILES
RIDING PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR – RYAN MOORE ON NOTNOWCATO
JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR – LYDIA HISLOP
BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR – CLARE BALDING
ONE TO WATCH IN 2008 – WILLIAM BUICK
VILLAIN OF THE YEAR – FACELESS LAWYERS CHASING IAN SEMPLE
HERO OF THE YEAR – HENRY CECIL
TRF POSTER OF THE YEARI’m sure those of us attending tonight will have a few thoughts on what ought to go on this year’s shortlist.
Incidentally, don’t be put off showing up tonight if you haven’t already said you will. The more the merrier, and I’ll sure Kempton isn’t going to be so packed to the gunwhales that you won’t find us!

November 19, 2008 at 16:57 #190641Hope theres a good number of us there. The 7.20 is a nice little race. Bonus is drifting for some reason but looks a decent bet at 3’s to me
November 19, 2008 at 17:49 #190647Sorry but Wednesday nights at Kempton don’t appeal for me.
Hope you all ahve a good time, could be interesting if Rasaman’s owner shows up but imagine he’ll be otherwise engaged.
November 20, 2008 at 03:38 #190728Apologies, but due to circumstances beyond my control (and I don’t mean the football) I was not able to attend this. Hope you have managed to get the ball rolling wrt the end-of-year categories while backing some winners!

Not so sure about the winners but we managed to come up with some nominations in most of the categories!!!

Hihihihi, we didn’t see or hear the air turn blue, so I’m guessing he didn’t appear.
Given his preferred stage apparel, I think he’s missing a trick in not trying to buy the rights to the crazy quilt set of colours previously worn by the likes of Gimmick, by the way!

November 27, 2008 at 15:02 #192538With apologies for the delay in posting, here are the findings of the Southern jury from last week’s meet-up.
As with last year, the purpose of the exercise was to provide a starting point for categories and nominations in advance of running some end-of-year polls, rather than the definitive lists, which I’m sure Cormack will formulate in the near future.
Doubtless you will have your own views on what has been missed out and what has been included that shouldn’t have been. If so, it’s up to you not to hold your peace!

November 27, 2008 at 15:44 #192540Could you consider the following supplementaries (I realise you can’t please everyone):
Journalist of The Year: Greg Wood
Racecourse of The Year: KemptonI will also be nominating the following for Hero of The Year in my own end-of-year blog awards: Keith Reveley, for being almost alone among trainers in refusing to put narrow self interest ahead of the public good when asked about 48-hour decs; that guy who gave the kiss of life on the gallops in Lambourn (will dig out his name at some stage); and Sean Boyce for his McKeown studio interview.
Cheers
November 27, 2008 at 16:17 #192545Jeremy, last years winner of poster of the year Mr Grayson your good self should surely be on the shortlist to defend your crown?
Thread of the year if there was one would undoubtedly be Forum clock.

Think villain of the year would be more appropriate
November 27, 2008 at 18:50 #192578Racecourse of The Year
I will mention Towcester who are still offering free entry and car parking and when I’ve visited are still attracting large crowds and 20-25 bookmakers to choose from. They also have an adequate number of bar staff and I usually do well there !
Pleasant surroundings, easy to get to and a choice of nearby pubs to choose from for a pre races beverage.November 27, 2008 at 19:00 #192580Would this be better now in it’s own thread?
November 27, 2008 at 20:26 #192591In the fullness of time I’m sure it will be, dj, once Corm has augmented it, divided it into categories and whatever else before inviting votes on it. More to follow, I’m sure!

November 27, 2008 at 20:36 #192593Fair enough, I was just thinking that people who may wish to nominate for a certain category wouldn’t have a clue that they could do so unless they stumble across a thread that may think may not concern them.
November 27, 2008 at 20:38 #192594Such considerate thinking, DJ. No wonder you’ve been nominated for Poster of The Year.
November 27, 2008 at 20:42 #192595I’m quite flattered that I even got a mention in dispatches amongst rather illustrious company.
November 27, 2008 at 21:02 #192598William Derby??
Yes, the way he failed to stop it pi**ing down with rain at York in August was unforgivable.
I’m sure there are plenty of more deserving candidates for the Villain of the Year, with JIm Bolger being a name that instantly springs to mind,
