At least Nicky had festivals winners this side of the sea.
People moan the Irish dominate the festival and yet moan they shouldn’t campaign them around Cheltenham in mind.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
November 24, 2021 at 19:27 #1568882The point being made is that racing needs to see it’s stars , they sell the tickets and put bums on seats both at the course and at home , let’s be honest we,ll prob see Shiskin a max 4 times this season
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
November 24, 2021 at 19:32 #1568884The majority of those ticket sells at the weekend haven’t got an interest in the horses that are racing. They want to get pissed up and gamble. They would have long forgotten the name Shishkin by the time they are sat around the toilet bowl at 2 in the morning

November 24, 2021 at 19:37 #1568886Sorry Nathan there,s plenty race goers who go for the racing , that’s akin to saying all football fans want to go for a pint and a fight , you can’t generalise like that , why did people live Dessie ….cause they saw him run …a lot , if Henderson had trained him he wouldn’t have won a GC …

November 24, 2021 at 19:45 #1568887Yes there are plenty but the majority of racegoers at the weekend maybe more so in the summer months are having the day out. Completely different sport to football, no comparison there. I do agree its great to see the horses run more but Henderson record in the CC speaks for itself and if Shishkin has come back bigger and needs longer to get match fit so be it.
Mullins runs Al Boum Photo 4 times a season max if that. Best Mate in the past.
It’s nothing new.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026

4? I admire your optimism! Henderson is probably on the phone to Newbury now, booking in a racecourse gallop in February.
November 24, 2021 at 19:48 #1568889Not sure why there,s no comparison …it’s a sport , you can drink and eat at both … If you play man u more fans will turn up than if u play Morecambe … People what quality

November 24, 2021 at 20:00 #1568893If it’s all about Cheltenham only then might as well just cancel the pre March grade ones and just have loads of racecourse gallops
I prefer jumps to flat but the ongoing competitiveness on t(e flat is far superior to what we are seeing here
November 24, 2021 at 20:02 #1568894” “horse not quite right” according to NH.
Race is over two weeks away. Surely more to it than that?”
Hmm on reflection you could be right. Unusual for him to make the call this early, unless he’s fed up getting slagged for late decisions. Looking back at Champ’s non appearance last season, reasons varied “We had to stop and give him a wind op” (in autumn not summer when he was standing in the field??). “Kempton won’t suit” “He’s too keen so 3 miles of the Savills isn’t the right distance to start back”
Turns out he’d always had a rubbish back and had back surgery that had been incomplete as the surgeon wasn’t able to do all that was planned. Which was only mentioned at this year’s stable tour, after a second back surgery. They have no obligation to talk publicly about anything veterinary related except to declare a wind op but remember also after a chunk of Buveur d’Air’s hoof had to be taken off at the coronary band due to the Fighting Fifth injury the trainer was still waffling about hoping to get him back for that season’s Champion Hurdle, when it was a mathematical impossibility for the hoof to regrow sufficiently by then.
Hopefully it’s just a combo of the trainer being ultra cautious about the ground and miscalculating and undercooking the horse.
November 24, 2021 at 20:06 #1568896I have yet to see his stable running their “better” horses this season. There could be more behind than just Shishkin not fully wound up for the TG.

Come on Nicky Henderson is the biggest insult to NH racing these days.
I don’t see put the kettle on being wrapped up in cotton wool, nor Nube Negra.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 24, 2021 at 21:14 #1568903Ruby. Not a single runner from him at kempton on Monday. A day and course where he usually targets his better runners
November 24, 2021 at 21:24 #1568906When a real top class horse takes on second raters the top class horse can get away with not being at its best. So is more likely to run.
When two real top class horses are going to take each other on this early in the season both sides want to be at their very best. So it was always possible one would come out.
There have been years when Mullins has entered his best 2m chaser in this race and not turned up.
Value Is EverythingNovember 24, 2021 at 21:30 #1568907Mike, that view is the issue with NH racing, that the only time of the season that matters is cheltenham, that his season would be “ruined” if he went to war in the best grade 1 this side of christmas with his best two miler against the highest rated horse in training, its a farce, if he won the tingle creek beating CPS and lost the CC that is not a failure and NH is goinf down the pan because of thag view, mullins and co target ALL the big races in ireland ALL season
And nath, thats nonsense claiming most dont go for the horses that are running, theres been plenty of examples of this even recently when a big name turns up somewhere its twice as busy as itd usually be
November 24, 2021 at 21:55 #1568909“if he won the tingle creek beating CPS and lost the CC that is not a failure”.
Not a failure as such as he has won a race, but I would rather he be aimed and win the CC out of the two if he can’t do both, and I suspect so would connections. If I owned him I would rather try and win both as long as he is ultimately right for the CC. As it stands, I can’t be too scathing on the decision as I haven’t been privy to their conversations and decision making.
November 24, 2021 at 22:40 #1568923Cheltenham has become a monster, and NH racing is suffering. Al Boum Photo should be a legend in Ireland, but only turning out 3 times a year….. Contrast with Dessie, Dawn Run, Arkle, who competed regularly and whose connections weren’t afraid of defeat
