I think whatever happens i fully intend to go racing this weekend.
Wether its Kempton or Lingfield AW i dont care i just need to get back into the swing of things, if not then i will be scanning the football fixture and hope to get to some live sport.
January 10, 2010 at 20:48 #269185Interesting to note Kempton are considering switching Saturday’s turf fixture to the AW.
However "bumpers and Flat races for jumpers being considered" – perhaps they read this forum!!!
Will we have a 2m 4f flat race on the Kempton Polytrack?
I don’t see why not, although the time would be painfully slow. Races go off-turf sometimes in the US, because our tracks deal with all sorts of ridiculous weather ( i. e. the Kentucky flood this past summer) and they get used much more.
January 10, 2010 at 20:53 #269187I do remember Colonial Downs having a 2m2f jumps race but because the ground was so heavy they ran the race without the jumps.
Even Doncaster,Kelso or Uttoxeter have never bypassed all jumps in a race…..well not yet anyway.

I think flat races for jumpers is a good idea in the current climate. If you’re going to have meeting after meeting of all weather, it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple of meetings for jumps horses & jump jockeys. If for no other reason than to give them something to do.
I’m worried that the longer the cold snap goes on, the bigger the risk that some jockeys might not be able to afford to stay in the game.
January 11, 2010 at 12:07 #269257Considering the difficulty in making travel arrangements for the horses and the number of entries who will be balloted out of these oversubsribed races wouldn’t it been a good idea to have 48 hour declacations for this meeting, with reserves maybe?
BTW I’m 100% behind the meeting, lets have more it’ll keep the horses ticking over. Maybe even a longer race or two restricted to chasers run bumper styleJanuary 11, 2010 at 12:10 #269258Maybe even a longer race or two restricted to chasers run bumper style
You mean like a 3m Sprint! Low numbers must have an advantage!
January 11, 2010 at 14:20 #269288For the poor old bumper horses these AW races will feel like marathons, especially when their jockeys start hammering them up the home straight in order to win a bit of prize money to make up the deficit in their incomes of late.
Alternatively, some will have been instructed to go very gently on their mounts in which case you can bet your bottom dollar that the vast majority are only there to get a bit of a workout to make up for the frozen gallops.
Talk of Christmas coming early for the bookies! But no doubt there’ll be a few turkeys wanting to throw their money into the bookies’ satchels.
Next stop, Lucksin Downs, Sprint Valley and Steepledowns. I’ve got to admire your sense of optimism though guys.
And so the perpetual cycle of feint hope and disappointment continues relentlessly…..
KJanuary 12, 2010 at 19:02 #269497Some big stables represented in these bumper races. Nicky Henderson has a truck load there and Twiston-Davies, Pipe and Howard Johnson are other stables with runners.
Will be interesting to see what pace they go…particularly in the junior race.
January 12, 2010 at 19:25 #269503Just sharing my thoughts rather than giving a tip (or two)
On the face of it this looks like a bumper (no pun) day for Nicky Henderson.
However, if I was thinking of a bet I’d be looking for each way value as there’s almost sure to be a turnup or two.I’d be having a good look at two winning pointers,
DE FORGOTTEN MAN won an OK Point on dire ground in Ireland, if this turns out to be slog he should see the trip out fine and I wonder how hard Nicky Henserson would want Barry Geraghty to be on Anquetta? Trainer had a winner on Jan 1st so chances are the string weren’t too badly affected by the weather 10 days ago or so? Racing Post forescast price is 12-1The other one is SHOEGAZER, less interesting perhaps, especially at the 7-1 forecast SP in The Post. Well beaten on his only bumper run, given an easy time though. David Pipe trained
Just a couple of suggestions…….

It seems to be an automatic assumption these days that anything trained by Nicky Henderson is going to hack up and those at the Racing Post have done a superb job of steering people in that direction. One hopes that this may lead to the odd inflated price, particularly about:
12.30 Takamaru
13.00 Di Kaprio, Shoegazer
14.40 Maber Tasman

January 12, 2010 at 21:47 #269536Are they using starting stalls tomorrow?
*NO – Answer my own question

He hasn’t had a runner in a bumper in at least 5 years

Gerard Butler’s last bumper runner was Snipe in 2003.

Post
reports this evening that Southwell and Kempton will be staging an all-bumper card each next week, of which five races both times will be given over to hurdlers and chasers. As before, I wish the enterprise the very best of luck.

If I’m reading your correctly Jermey we’re talking Bumper races for seasoned hurdlers and chasers which would be different.
How well it would be supported would surely depend on how the weather is looking as most trainers surely prefer to find a chase or a hurdle race for their horses if they are racing fit.
Could be an ideal opportunity for Jonjo to run Don’t Push It on his final outing before the Grand national

Maybe I’m wrong but I would imagine most trainers will see it as an opportuinty to get a good gallop into any horse who has been held up in it’s work and we could see some really funny results.
