I like Homer Wells.. Won the Thyestes and a grade 2 chase subsequently so proved he has class and stays and is off 10st 6lbs. He’s receiving more weight off point barrow than in the Thyestes even though he beat him… The only downside is obviously the ground as he’d probably prefer plenty of cut but that applies to a lot of the field and he’s pretty much untried on the ground so who knows.. Its a lottery anyway.
Edited to say, he’s the right age as well….

April 11, 2007 at 17:49 #47719Eurotrek does interest me
Hes barely been raced but knows the fences now and proved in November that he doesnt require soft going
Trainer has talked of him having near GC ability and if his jumping holds (its not always perfect…) then he must run well even with 11st 8

Clivex
There’s one that knows the course a lot better, will positively relish faster ground, is already established as a Gold Cup horse, and has no questions to answer regarding his jumping.
Furthermore, he only has to give 4lbs to your moke!
April 11, 2007 at 22:25 #47721The Ryanair form of Billyvoddan is outstanding in my opinion, the fact that Richard Johnson doesn’t ride is an advantage, the Daly stable is in form, good ground suits, he is a young improver in what appears a National rather bereft of quality. 20/1 still available!

That’s the only concern about Hedgehunter, but I think it’s a bloody big one! If I was convinced he was fully fit, he’d be the greatest place certainty in the race since Amberleigh House.

Ruby obviously doesn’t think so.:)
He’s discarded yours to ride mine.
April 12, 2007 at 15:48 #47726After watching Joes Edge fade out of contention in last years National, I can’t believe he’s looking like starting favourite.
Granted the ground will suit plus he’s carrying less weight and in better form this year. Surely he doesn’t fit the profile of a National winner?
Just can’t fancy him myself.
April 12, 2007 at 19:11 #47727I wonder how many ‘smart alecs’ will be writing ‘Number Six’ on their betting slips on Saturday, hoping to get 2 bets for the price of 1, on Numbersixvalverde & Billyvodan. Nightmare!
Glad my days of mixing settling and counter-clerking are long gone. :yikes:

I’m still not backing Eurotrek though. You need to be a real stand-out to win the National with 11-8 IMO.
Anyway, reports today from the jockeys in the Hunter’s chase suggest that the National course is ‘on the slow side of good’. It would appear that the watering is working. I’d love it to stay in the high 6’s on the going stick for Saturday.

April 12, 2007 at 21:05 #47730I like Silver Birch at a price but he will have to reproduce the form he was in when with Paul Nicholls. About 25/1 I believe. Good luck.

He’d never win anything with a profile like that, would he?
April 12, 2007 at 23:46 #47732After spending hours reading forms and watching how walsh mcoy and others have been going, i think thornton and "simon" seem to be a good combination to me. But i have to inform you i’m a novice at this as i have only been betting on the horse’s under a year now.
April 13, 2007 at 08:48 #47733My few quid will be going on Billyvodan for the reasons that Bear has already stated.
I’m also going to bet on Royal Auclair who should like the better ground at Aintree and has run well in the National before.
April 13, 2007 at 10:26 #47734the winner this year will be Simon of course although Bewleys Berry looks worth an each-way saver
