Was brought to a virtual standstill by Royal Auclair’s fall according to Heard FSL so was pulled up quickly after that.

Jilly,
So you advocate a ruthless "win at all costs" mentality whereby rules intended to look after horses welfare drawn up in conjunction with the RSPCA are there just for lip service and can be flouted in big races.
I’m not a sentamentalist nor do I advocate disqualifying horses first past the post on which the jockey has broken the rules but just expressed a view that NH racing needs to be mindful of its public image and that once a year viewers might not have enjoyed the spectacle of tired horses that had run their hearts out for 4 and a half miles receiving obvious whip abuse from 10 stone men. The bans were well merited. Would a few less blows and more riding out have left the result the same?
April 15, 2007 at 09:34 #47769Im with you on this one Lingfield.
Clan Royal a number of years ago took a beating round Aintree in the Becher Chase,he was struck with the whip something like 24 times from the last to the line, and i maintain he would have won a national if it wasnt for the flogging.
I know he has run a blinder in the past, but horses dont forget being flogged.
No if the rule was ‘no use of the ahip from the last” the result in my opnion would have been the same.
