He reminded me of Sprinter Sacre jumping those fences and old SS raised a hair or two. He stood off a mile and cleared it. I dare say he’ll remember it in March and pop over.
The jump at the second last was stunning given the context
November 17, 2016 at 01:46 #1272964A formidable horse , although his jumping will need to improve considerably before I would consider him as a potential King George or Gold Cup winner . Ruby Walsh was asked the other evening on Racing UK to choose a horse , other than one he already rides , that he would love to partner . Instantly he said , Thistlecrack .

November 17, 2016 at 03:47 #1272965i think c tizzard has done a great job with THISTLECRACK but what price would he be now if trained by mullins. so depends on what you think value is
I would think he would still be the same price. All the potential that has been mentioned on here about him is built into the price as it now.
Surely he cant be under 5/2 on the day. Fascinating stuff
November 19, 2016 at 15:12 #1273400Would have finished within 20 lengths of Cue Card today….

Yep, Thistlecrack would’ve probably finished just a few lengths behind Cue Card today.
Or isn’t that what you meant, Ruby?
Anyway, Thistlecrack will probably finish in front of Cue Card come Cheltenham in March.
Value Is EverythingNovember 19, 2016 at 15:58 #1273412I’d shorten Thistlecrack after that, Tizzard knows who will win the Gold Cup

You can just see that twinkle in Tizz’s eye when they are complimenting Cue Card, can’t you. He’s like a man at a Las Vegas card table holding 4 aces.
November 19, 2016 at 16:48 #1273426I wasn’t joking with my statement. I’m convinced that Thistlecrack would have made some serious errors today against the first two and that only his superior engine would have kept him close.
We are not talking about the GC as a NH Flat Race over 3m2f in which Thistlecrack would be 1/7 and people would be still lumping on. It’s rather 22 fences including 4 open ditches that he will have to survive. No matter what Joe Tizzard thinks and sees at home, Thistlecrack has a very long way to go. Let’s see what happens next week at Newbury.November 19, 2016 at 17:01 #1273430Thistlecrack has a better technique than Cue Card and I say that as a long time fan of CC. Far, far too much is being made of one error imo.
Trainer and jock will have learned more than the horse and I expect to see a fencing master class at Newbury. Almost tempted to make the 400-mile trip to see him.
November 21, 2016 at 10:52 #1273666Tizzard revealed: “Tom [Scudamore] schooled Thistlecrack on the grass with Native River on Saturday, which we haven’t been able to do before. They went quick upsides, and that’s the sort of experience he hasn’t had in his two races over fences.
“We came away both saying that Thistlecrack learned more at home in that one session than he had in his two races, because he was upsides, clipping along.
“He was good. He couldn’t have been any better, so we were all well pleased. He’ll be entered on Monday for the bet365 Novices’ Chase at Newbury on Saturday.”

As Jonathan Neesom pointed out yesterday prior to the juvenile hurdle at Exeter:
“They all school well, don’t they? No trainer would ever admit that a horse has schooled poorly”.
What else would you expect from the Tizzard camp?November 21, 2016 at 11:58 #1273675Inclined to agree with Neesom. However, there must be some that do school well at home.
Can’t believe Thistlecrack hasn’t worked upsides and (come to that) in behind horses at home.Value Is EverythingNovember 21, 2016 at 15:06 #1273700T’crack reportedly jumped 150 fences in the loose school before his chasing debut.
On good/bad schools. Must have been annoying for Cue Card’s Wetherby backers to hear Tizz say on Saturday that he had not schooled well prior to the Charlie Hall. Before the race there was no mention of that and they were most bullish about him.
November 26, 2016 at 13:03 #1274315That was quite impressive and he was very fluent at almost every fence. I bet they will rethink about the KG!!!
November 26, 2016 at 13:13 #1274319Agreed Ruby, impressive performance. He might have run down a couple of fences, but he was clever
at them all. He still thinks about a couple going into them, but I think this “dodgy jumper” tag can
be laid to death. It’s great to have a star like him on the scene. I’m looking forward to seeing him
run away from them after the last in the Gold Cup
November 26, 2016 at 13:14 #1274320Difficult to know what to make of that. He just looked like any other horse jumping round, nothing spectacular at all. Scudamore not at all pro-active.
I doubt they will be giving any thought to a King George.

I don’t know too many horses that take a wider course and stay just 3 seconds outside the track record without coming out of 2nd gear.
