Hello Judge,
do you think Tizzards will jeopardize the possibility of the 1 million bonus for 11 year old Cue Card?
they have another 5 years to look forward to with thistlcrack.
I presume you’re talking about the gold cup cowboy
I don’t see how they’ve got another five years left with thistlecrack
he will be nine in march so he’s hardly a spring chicken for a jumper
In any case I don’t think Cue Card will win the gold cup, and he’s had his chances. How many horses win the gold cup at 11 having had chances before? Answers on a postcard.
Although I’m not as bullish as my mate who thinks Thistlecrack could give cue card 20 lengths

With Cue Card impressing in the Betfair, there’s no way the Tizzards will go for the King George with Thistlecrack.World Hurdle has more prestige than the RSA.
Cheltenham target is between two races.
If failing to impress as a Gold Cup winner will switch to the World Hurdle.Colin Tizzard has confirmed it will be the Gold Cup or World Hurdle and definitely not the RSA. Thistlecrack will go for the Feltham. Meanwhile Native River is to have one run in the New Year and then head straight to the GC. So all being well we’ll have Cue Card, Thistlecrack and Native River in the GC.
Thanks goodness Tizzard isn’t another Mullins.

Yes, that would be great as well Patriot.

I was thinking today, not just Mullins, but several big operations that I can think of would have kept this lad in the World Hurdle until the day he hung up his plates, and that would be a shame. A few others may have asked too much of him early on in his career too. He clearly needed time, and they are reaping the reward. The owners must take credit too.
December 1, 2016 at 21:59 #1275246The Tizzard quote is regarding ruling out the RSA and i’m sure was in an interview on RUK at the weekend. Wherever it was he definitely ruled out the RSA. I’ve never seen any indication that Thistlecrack will go for the King George and I can’t see any reason to pitch him in at that level now. Coneygree went Feltham and GC two years ago and it didn’the do him any harm.
December 1, 2016 at 22:05 #1275247Here’s what Lydia Hislop reports in her column today:
We may still get to find out sooner rather than later because neither Tizzard nor owners John and Heather Snook have yet shelved their King George ambitions.
“I woke up this morning thinking Feltham and then I watched the race again and thought, actually, what’s wrong with going out into open company?” Heather told the Racing Post last Sunday. “I hope we keep our feet on the ground. Colin is grounded enough to speak for us all.”
True to form, Tizzard outlined his thinking. “We’ll take stock for a week or two,” he said. “I’m sure Thistlecrack will be declared at the six-day stage for both the King George and Feltham. The owners are the most important people so they most probably make the decision.
Here’s what Joe Tizzard told the RP yesterday evening:
Cue Card is in lovely form. He’s as good as he’s ever been. There’s nothing that suggests he’s in any less form than last year. He deserves to be favourite. We haven’t decided whether Thistlecrack will join him in the King George yet. He’ll definitely go to Kempton on Boxing Day, but has the option of the Feltham. It will be down to the owners, Dad and myself – we’ll all sit down nearer the time and have a chat. He’s come out of his Newbury race really well.

I’d literally just found this column as well.
I still think it makes sense to send Thistlecrack down the Coneygree route. But it would make for one hell of a King George.
December 19, 2016 at 11:07 #1277850It’s on!!!!!!! The first battle is only 7 days away.
December 19, 2016 at 15:13 #1277873I’d have rather he ran in the other race but being on KG/GC doubles at 33’s and 60’s it’ll give my money a run if he does line up, still time for them to change their minds. With Coneygree out it will at least make it easier for Thistlecrack to make the running if indeed that is the plan.

December 19, 2016 at 19:01 #1277892This is just what racing needs.
Well done to the Tizzards for not running scared and keeping them apart.
What a superb race it will be.
Who will crack?December 19, 2016 at 19:28 #1277894I have to disagree with this idea.
I cannot understand the rationale behind going in with the big boys until you have to.
Education is important for an inexperienced horse.
He hasn’t even been put under the slightest pressure yet.
Lets hope that they don’t live to regret this.December 19, 2016 at 19:33 #1277895I have to wholeheartedly agree with Coggy on this.
I really hope they don’t live to regret it.
IMO there is no need to fly so high so early.

Who will crack? From the sound of it the owners made the decision to run. Not to say Tizzard never wanted to run, but if CT ran in another couple of chases he would only run against 3 or 4 inferior opponents and they would still be no further forward heading toward the Gold Cup.
Bring it on, good for racing.
